Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of goal setting methods on learning outcomes of students of PTM in a kinematics and dynamics course. The subjects were PTM students even semester of 2011/2012, Engineering Faculty UNNES. This research is motivated by the lack of student learning outcomes in the earlier half of the semester-indicated because of lack of motivation in learning. This study used an experimental method. The population was 45 students in one class, divided into 2 groups, control class and experiment. Each subject in the study period of 7 lessons given the task to make a goal at the end of the course as well as a weekly goal. Series of goals made by the subject is placed on the the wall to give positive affirmations. At presence measurement, goal setting gives a significant number to the difference in the number of student attendance. Data for quiz grades showed that the effect of this method was not significant. This study shows that the goal setting can be applied to increase student motivation. It would be better if supported by increasing self-awareness through the control of behavior.

Abstract

This research was development research that aimed to develop and produce a Statistics textbook model that supported with ICT and portfolio based assessment. This book was designed to improve students ability in communication and mathematical connections. There were three stages in this research i.e. define, design, and develop. The textbooks consisted of 10 chapters which each chapter contains introduction, core materials and include examples and exercises. The textbook developed phase begins with the early stages of designed the book (draft 1) which then validated by experts. Revision of draft 1 produced draft 2 which then limited test for readability test book. Furthermore, revision of draft 2 produced textbook draft 3 which simulated on a small sample to produced a valid model textbook. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics. The analysis showed that the Statistics textbook model that supported with ICT and portfolio based assessment valid and fill up the criteria of practicality.

From that reason, as the follow up of the previous research, this research will develop learning material model based on culture, creativity context, life skill, and enjoyable for students by noticing teachers‟ needs, environment and capability. The research locations determined purposively by establish three of special characterized towns in Central Java. This research uses Educational Research and Development which developed by Brogg and Gall (1983:775-76). Based on the previous research, the model of music learning material that developed in this research refers to three characteristics, they are (1) easy to be implemented by elementary school and Islamic elementary school teachers (applicable); (2) can be a comprehensive learning guidance, and (3) can be functionalized as learning media and source to teachers. The form is teaching materials that consist of: (1) learning materials belong to music knowledge and experience; (2) guidelines for teachers; and (3) supporting media (VCD).  Development processes are done by four steps, they are (1) arranging learning material, teachers‟ guidance, and supporting media ( VCD); (2) expert review; (3) trial and (4) seminar. The trial model of music material development that developed in this research still done in limited target. From that reason, to know the feasibility for next betterment, it still needs continuation trial in broader target. So the model of music‟s learning material development is ready to be disseminated and implemented. Keywords: culture, creative, life skill and enjoyable.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate character values that can be applied on students through congkak game as it is used as a media of mathematics learning. This study used qualitative and quantitative combination or (Exploratory mixed methods designs). The first phase of qualitative data was taken through in-depth interviews to 5 selected informants using purposive sampling technique. The first phase of the data retrieval was intended to gather information related to the content of character values contained in  congkak game. All data interviews were analyzed thematically using NVivo qualitative analysis tool 10. Then, the second phase of the data was taken using a questionnaire to 46 students who were studying in grade V and VI in an elementary school (SD). The second phase of the data retrieval was intended to support the first phase of the research results, the entire data of the second phase analyzed descriptively using quantitative analysis tools SPSS Windows 18.0. Overall, the results of the two phases indicated that there were nine character values contained in the game congkak once it was used as a medium of mathematics learning. The nine-character values were honesty, discipline, hard working, creativity, curiosity, independent, communicativeness, responsibility and appreciation for achievements. The results also proved that the use of instructional media such as traditional game congkak can be used as an intermediary that can be used by teachers in mathematics learning process. In addition, this study shows that even though congkak game belongs to a traditional game among middle societies, in fact, there were characters values as it was investigated scientifically.
