Abstract

This study aims to investigate the morphological overgeneralization of IELTS students. It focuses on the singular/plural nouns and suffixed nouns that are overgeneralized by those students. Three students are chosen as the participants of the study by collecting their writing exercises. Three writing texts are gathered taken from several weeks and materials. The writings are analyzed by sorting the nouns they produced and categorizing them according to the singular/plural nouns and suffixed nouns. The results reveal that the students over extended the rules of singular/plural nouns and suffixed nouns. However, recovery occurs very varied in both singular/plural nouns and suffixed nouns. They tend to be better in mentioning singular/plural nouns, yet they are being selective and careful in writing suffixed nouns. In conclusion, even though the language learners can mark their overgeneralization, it is still difficult for them to recover their errors. It is recommended here that longitudinal study that has more time to examine students recovery from overgeneralization can be conducted for the further study to give more detail evidence in students’ overgeneralizations.Keywords: overgeneralization, singular/plural nouns, suffixed nouns

Abstract

Salah satu materi pengetahuan bahasa yang diberikan pada BIPA adalah imbuhan. Badan Pengembangan dan Pembinaan Bahasa (BPPB), Kemdikbud sudah merumuskan imbuhan untuk setiap peringkat  berdasarkan CEFR. Tujuan penulisan ini adalah mengkaji materi imbuhan yang dirumuskan BPPB. Metode yang digunakan deskriptif analitis. Objeknya silabus dan materi ajar yang dirumuskan BPPB. Temuannya adalah 1) pada level A1 diajarkan imbuhan ber-, namun kosakata berimbuhan meN-, meN-kan, meN-i, di-, di-kan, di-i, peN-, -an, ke-an, per-an, peN-an, ter-, banyak digunakan;2) pada level A2  tidak ada imbuhan  yang diajarkan; 3) pada level B1 kembali diajarkan imbuhan ber- yangdisejalankan dengan imbuhan meN-, pembentuk kata kerja pasif ter-, dan imbuhan ke-an; 4) pada level B2 diajarkan imbuhan meN-,ber- (terkait dengan kalimat aktif-pasif), ter- (pembentuk kata kerja pasif), dan  ke-an; 5)pada level C1  tidak ada imbuhan  yang diajarkan; 6) pada level C2 diajarkan imbuhan meN- dan –i;7) imbuhan meNper, meNper-an, meNper-i, berpeN-kan, berke-an, ber-an, kepeN-an tidak diajarkan pada semua level,tetapi kosakata turunan dari imbuhan ini banyak digunakan. Kesimpulannya adalah adanya imbuhan yang tidak diberikan  dan ada level yang tidak ada materi imbuhan.Kata kunci:  keterampilan berbahasa; imbuhan; BIPAOne of the content materials in BIPA (Teaching Indonesian for Non-natives) is affixes. Ministry of Education and Culture’s Language Development and Fostering Agency (BPPB) formulates affixes for each level based on CEFR. This paper aims at exploring affixes formulated by BPPB. Analytical descriptive method was adopted in the study, in which the syllabus and content materials formulated by BPPB were the data sources. The findings show that 1) Affix ber- was discussed in level A1; however, words using affix meN-, meN-kan, meN-i, di-, di-kan, di-i, peN-, -an, ke-an, per-an, peN-an, ter- were often used; 2) No affixes was taught in level A2; 3) in level B1, affix ber- was re-learned in line with affix meN-,passive verb maker ter-, and affix ke-an; 4) affixes meN-,ber- (passive-active voice), ter- (passive verb maker), andke-an were taught in level B2; 5) in level C1,there was no affixes taught; 6) affixes meN- and –i were learned in level C2;7) affixes meNper, meNper-an, meNper-i, berpeN-kan, berke-an, ber-an, kepeN-an were not discussed in any levels; nonetheless, derived words from these affixes were frequently used. In conclusion, not all affixes were discussed, and not all levels provided affixes as content materials.Keywords: language skill; affixes; teaching indonesian for non-natives

Abstract

Language acquisition is the process of understanding and production of language in children through several stages ranging from groping to fluent talk. This study aims to assess the ability of children aged four years and five months in (1) to understand basic vocabulary; (2) describes the acquisition of the first language on a phonological level, and; (3) the acquisition of language on a syntactic level. The method used in this research is the method of referring, proficient, and documentation. This research uses psycholingistic approach. This psycholinguistic approach tries to explain the essence of the structure of language, and how it is acquired, used at the time of speech, and at the time of understanding the sentences in the narrative. In essence in the activities of communication occurs the process of producing and understanding speech. The results of this study of language acquisition on the phonological level and the syntax among the respondents of the study is good enough in speaking, and there are no significant deviations in the resulting speech. Language acquisition of children aged four years and five months is at the stage of the development of a sentence. Respondents have been familiar with the pattern of dialogue, have understood when it was his turn to speak and when it was his turn to speak. Respondents have mastered the basic grammar laws of adults, developing vocabulary, and phonological development can be said to have ended. However, respondents still have difficulty in pronunciation of some consonants.Keywords: language acquisition, psycholinguistics, phonology, syntax

Abstract

Abstract           This study aimed to describe the phonemes produced by children aged 2 years and 10 months and describes forms of exchange or metathesis sound that occurs in producing the sounds of language in words. The data collection technique use three stages of strategic sequence. These stages are (1) a method of providing data, (2) data analysis methods, and (3) methods of presenting the results of the analysis. Data in the form of speech is transcribed into a phonetic transcription. The findings of this research are: The respondent has been able to produce almost any sounds or phonemes that exist in Indonesian. Phonemes produced consisting of consonant phonemes that are already emerging that a total of 18 phonemes: / b /, / t∫ /, / d /, / g /, / d /, / dj /, / k /, / l /, / m /, / n /, / ŋ /, / ñ /, / p /, / r /, / s /, / t /, / w /, / y /. From the 18 consonant phonemes are emerging, 8 of them have variations, so that the number of phonemes is generated as a whole is 27 consonant phonemes. Respondents have been able to produce six vowel phonemes plus two variations so that all amount to 8 vowel phonemes. It was found five pieces of diphthongs are: / au /, / ai /, / ei /, / o /, and / ua /. In the span of less than one month found 19 words that contain elements of metathesis. From the 19 words, found 5 types or form of an exchange of sounds and sound accompaniment of addition and subtraction.           Keywords: language acquisition, phonology, metathesis, phonemes.

Abstract

Bahasa dan budaya merupakan dua sisi mata uang yang berbeda, tetapi tidak dapat dipisahkan, karena bahasa merupakan cermin budaya dan identitas diri penuturnya. Toponim dapat digunakan untuk mempelajari aspek budaya setempat sehingga sangat diperlukan untuk melestarikan warisan budaya bangsa. Bahasa yang digunakan dalam penamaan geografis menunjukkan kekayaan budaya suatu bangsa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan toponimi di Kabupaten Pandeglang yang menggunakan mofem Ci- (Bahasa Sunda), lema kadu (Bahasa Sunda), dan lema pasir (Bahasa Sunda). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif analitis. Data yang digunakan dalam tulisan ini berasal dari sumber data tertulis dan sumber data lisan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ditemukan toponim  di Kabupaten Pandeglang yaitu: 1) menggunakan morfem ci- (BI: air); menggunakan lema kadu (BI: buah durian); dan  menggunakan lema pasir (BI: bukit); dan 2) faktor penamaan tersebut berkaitan dengan kondisi geografis dan sosial budaya masyarakat setempat. Language and culture are two sides of a coin; they are inseparable because language is a reflection of the culture and identity of its speaker. Toponyms can be used to study various aspects of the local culture and can help to preserve the nation's cultural heritage. The language used in geographical naming shows the cultural richness of a nation. This study aims to describe the toponymy existing in Pandeglang District, focusing on the morpheme Ci- (Sundanese), kadu entry (Sundanese), and hill entry (Sundanese). This research uses analytical descriptive method. The data used in this paper comes from written as well as oral data sources. The findings revealed that the dominant toponyms in Pandeglang District are as follows: 1) using the morpheme ci- (BI: air); using the entry kadu (BI: durian); and using the entry hill (BI: bukit); 2) the naming factor is related to the geographical and sociocultural conditions of the local community.

Abstract

Motivation to learn is very complicated to be examined because it involves various aspects, including the psychology of learners. However, efforts to improve the motivation of learners is not impossible for every teacher. As one of these efforts, the researcher undertook a comparative study by examining the achievement of bunpou understanding in the class that used the quiz tests and did not use the quiz test. After that, we compared with the average of semester final exam grade of the two classes. The quiz tests were formatively conducted after mid term exam until semester final exam. The result of a class that uses a quiz test has a higher average grade than a class that does not use. The mid term exam is difficult than final exam, it causes the average of the grade of student went down. However, the class that does not use the quiz test has drop two fold than the class that used the quiz test. It can be assumed that the quiz test is one of the media that has a role to increase the extrinsic motivation of the basic learner in understanding bunpou.Keywords: learning motivation, quiz tests, roles, bunpou

Abstract

This research aims to describe the semantic components of the metaphorical expressions found in the law discourse of the Jawa Pos daily newspaper by contrasting  the semantic components of the source domain (the literal expressions) and the target domain (the metaphorical expressions) to discover the similarities of meanings of, and to reveal the functions of the metaphorical expressions used in the discourse. The data were collected using non-participatory observation, critical reading, and note-taking. The data were analyzed using referential identity and distributional methods with substitution and paraphrasing techniques. The result of the research reveals two main findings. First,the association of the source and the target domains can be elaborated by analyzing the diagnostic components of each domain. The analysis uncovers four similarities of meanings: in action, qualities, movement, and attributes. Secondly, the metaphorical expressions in this discourse are mainly used for popularizing or dramatizing the issue to draw the readers’ attention to increase the sale of the newspaper, and to criticize and denigrate the law executers (prosecutors and judges) to be more objective in doing their jobs so that law enforcement in Indonesia will be more powerful.Keywords : metaphorical expressions, semantic components, source,target, meanings, functions

Abstract

AbstractThe objectives of  research are identified the Indonesia culture identity constructed in primary schools textbooks with curriculum 2013. The Indonesia culture identity was very important while considering social conflict today very apraid and doing in every social life dimention. The conflict was become between scholar social community also unscholar social community with be at the bottom of variation. The study used text content analysis through words and sentence as based analysis. The analysis of data are discourse of textbooks grade one primary schools amounted four theme.  The research finding that  textbooks represented Indonesia culture identity in all activity and the action has doing by the stories actor which are cheave to each action as well setting as planning of writer textbooks. The language used as Indonesia identity representation described  in words and sentence or discourse as well depicted identity. The Indoensia culture identity has description e.g. religious identity, humanism, socialism, sportive, toleration, works in together, discipline, optimist, and rational. Abstract

Since knowledge often suits a situation, knowledge can work as a strategy. Spivak (1993) emphasizes that classroom can be staged as intervention. In the classroom, a case, a theory, or a concept is proposed, and students are encouraged to intervene. In Spivak’s “teaching machine”, it is strategic to always move outside and not be like the mainstream. To do this, one must inhabit, invest, and criticize the knowledge put in hand. With this in mind, this essay attempts to explore how reading literature can help Indonesians negotiate their identities across languages, generations, and cultures, and in the end, would look critically at the politics of identity and culture. This article argues that reading Toni Morrison’s A Mercy provides perspectives on the relevance of teaching American literature within Indonesian context. Tzvetan Todorov’s (1982) theory on the conquest of other helps the analysis on the novel’s colonial issue, while the conquest of America by female characters in the novel is discussed within the frame of feminist studies. Intervention in this case is conducted to question what can be reflected upon such issues for students in Indonesia whose country experienced (post)colonialism and is continuously tackling with the issue of gender equality.Keywords: American literature; feminist studies; Indonesian context; intervention; (post)colonialismKarena pengetahuan sering sesuai dengan situasi, pengetahuan dapat digunakan sebagai strategi. Spivak (1993) menekankan bahwa ruang kelas dapat dikondisikan sebagai medium intervensi. Di ruang kelas, sebuah kasus, teori, atau konsep diajukan, dan siswa didorong untuk melakukan intervensi. Dalam konteks mesin pengajaran yang dikonsepkan oleh Spivak, selalu bergerak keluar (tidak mainstream) merupakan hal yang sangat strategis untuk dilakukan. Untuk dapat melakukan ini, seseorang harus benar-benar memahami, menginvestasikan, dan mengkritik pengetahuan yang ada. Atas dasar pemikiran ini, artikel ini mencoba untuk mengeksplorasi bagaimana membaca karya sastra dapat membantu orang Indonesia menegosiasikan identitas mereka melalui bahasa, generasi, dan budaya. Hingga pada akhirnya, akan terlihat kritik terhadap politik identitas dan budaya. Artikel ini berargumentasi bahwa membaca novel A Mercy karya Toni Morrison dapat memberikan perspektif tentang relevansi pengajaran sastra Amerika dalam konteks Indonesia. Teori Tzvetan Todorov (1982) tentang penaklukan yang lain membantu analisis isu kolonial novel tersebut, sementara penaklukan Amerika oleh tokoh perempuan dalam novel tersebut akan dibahas dalam kerangka studi feminis. Intervensi dalam kasus ini dilakukan untuk mempertanyakan apa yang dapat tercermin pada isu-isu tersebut bagi siswa di Indonesia yang negaranya mengalami kolonialisme dan terus-menerus menangani masalah kesetaraan jender.Kata kunci: kesusastraan Amerika; kajian feminis; konteks Indonesia;intervensi; (pos)kolonialisme

Abstract

This study aims to explain the implementation of project learning model (PBL) and authentic assessment that can serve as a model for teachers in teaching drama and literature in general. The is a qualitative research study with the following stages: determine assumptions, determine the design, determine the rules of research, collect data, perform data recording, analyze data, verify the research stage, and describe the research results. This research generates several findings: (1) project based learning (PBL) and authentic assessment fit well with the teaching of drama; (2) the model in question is easy to implement in teaching drama; (3) the learning steps involved are simple yet stimulate the students to actively participate; and (4) this model leads to satisfactory student competence, with an average of 3.55 and 3.63 on a 1-4 scale with excellent qualifications. Competitiveness is measured through the authentic judgment with the rubric of the drama performance parameter. Based on the discussion, it can be concluded that (1) project based learning (PBL) and authentic assessment can be implemented well and easily; and (2) the result of model implementation in teaching drama indicates very satisfactory results.Keywords: PBL, authentic assessment, Indonesian drama
