Abstract

This article analyzes the characters and characterization in the novel "Women at Zero Point" by Nawal El Saadawi using a feminist approach. This novel depicts women's struggle in facing oppression, violence and gender injustice in a patriarchal society. A feminist approach is used to analyze how the female characters in this novel face these problems and struggle to find freedom. This analysis uses a literature review method by referring to the novel "Perempuan di Titik Zero" and relevant feminist literature studies. Focus is given to the main character, Firdaus, as well as other female characters in this novel. The results of the analysis show that the female characters in this novel face oppression and violence carried out by the patriarchal system. Firdaus, as the main character, faces various forms of sexual exploitation, domestic violence, and objectification by the surrounding community. However, this novel also highlights women's solidarity as a source of strength and support in their struggle against gender injustice. A feminist approach helps in seeing how the author criticizes patriarchal norms that limit women. Firdaus and other female characters challenge narrow social expectations and attempt to shape their identities outside these constraints. In conclusion, This analysis confirms that the novel "Women at Point Zero" is a reflection of women's struggle to seek freedom and overcome gender injustice in a patriarchal society. Women's solidarity and criticism of patriarchal norms are important themes in this novel, inviting readers to consider the role and influence of patriarchy in women's lives.

Abstract

The plant is called tarum in Sundanese, nila in Sanskrit and indigo in English. This plant is considered a source of inspiration for place naming (toponymy) in Sundanese landscape. Some of the places and natural phenomena that are considered to be inspired by the tarum plant are Ci Tarum as the largest river in Sundanese landscape, Tarumanagara as the kingdom with the oldest epigraphic evidence in landscape Sundanese, and Pataruman which is historically believed to be the center of tarum processing activities that produce natural blue dye. There are still other variations of names with the word tarum, such as Tarumajaya located in the southern area of Bandung in the upstream area of Ci Tarum and Banjar Patroman (Banjar Pataruman) located in the eastern area of Priangan, which is believed by the surrounding community to be one of the centers of tarum processing in the past. The naming of places and natural phenomena is an important linguistic phenomenon in the cultural aspects of Sundanese society that requires critical, fundamental and analytical analysis. Thus, conceptual precision that relies on the meaning and basic meaning of tarum as a working tool for disclosing information and knowledge that is more holistic and comprehensive, is expected to open up insights and provide valuable contributions regarding the cultural construction and historical aspects of Sundanese society in the past in landscape Sundanese more clearly and accurately.

Abstract

Generalized anxiety disorder is an anxiety disorder commonly experienced in excessive worry by some people with trauma. In the short story entitled Shifting written by Ann Beattie, Natalie is worried about her marriage because Natalie thinks that Larry's mother will not approve of their marriage, this is because Natalie is rarely accompanying Larry. Then, how are generalized anxiety disorders accentuated in Ann Beattie’s Shifting? In analysis, the main character in this story is over-worrying that makes herself being different in the view of the others. The language that she knows has been over consumed that she has been swallowed by the language itself.  In conclusion, the short story indicates how any disorder may come from any small worry. If the worrying is not finished, it could be piled up and be shaped into further anxiety that disturbs life of being individuals and parts of societies.

Abstract

Teaching BIPA (Indonesian for Foreign Speakers) in SPK (Satuan Pendidikan Kerjasama) has its polemics. Based on the needs analysis, one of them is that not all BIPA learners in SPK exhibit enthusiasm toward engaging with Indonesian reading materials. This displeasure comes from several factors including a general disinterest in reading, a lack of motivation to utilize the Indonesian language beyond the confines of language classes, and other obstacles like unappealing teaching materials. Thereby, this research aims to develop an Interactive Reading digital Module based on Contextual Approach in SPK. This research uses the RD method with the ADDIE Model design and has evaluation sessions at each stage. This article will focus on the developing stage and show validation results from the expert validators. The results showed that based on expert validators, the interactive reading digital module can be used with the material, media design feasibility percentage of 83% of eligible excellent predicate.

Abstract

This study aims to find out what are the learning videos of news text material that are already on YouTube based on the characteristics, specifications, and the advantages and disadvantages of the videos. This study uses a type of qualitative descriptive research. The data analysis technique uses the data analysis technique Miles and Huberman. This research gets results with videos that are generally 5-10 minutes long, in general the videos are in accordance with KD, indicators and learning objectives of news texts. Apart from that, video specifications are obtained with an aspect ratio of 16:9, resolution of 720 (HD), and a frame rate of 30fps. There are 40 learning videos on YouTube analyzed based on Miles and Huberman according to research criteria and a review of learning videos, 22 learning videos for news texts are found to be appropriate. Video material regarding identification of news elements and identification of news elements and concluding news content.

Abstract

The use of the walikan language as an expression of pride in identity in the Malang youth community has different variations depending on the speakers. The unique variations of the walikan bases can arise due to regional and gender differences between men and women. This study aims to examine how the unique variations of basa walikan can occur based on differences in social strata and gender using a socio-dialectological approach. Through a socio-dialectological approach, it can be known about the variations in the language used by the Malang youth community in using digital tools. This research uses a descriptive-qualitative approach. The data collection technique uses the listening and taking notes technique which in this case is represented through listening activities and being directly involved in communication using the Walikan language through social media applications, namely Instagram. Another technique used to further deepen the analysis is the interview technique. In addition, the equating comparison technique and the differential comparison technique were also used to analyze the data that had been collected. The results of this study indicate that there is a unique variation of the walikan base used by Malang youth, namely, the walikan base variation in the lexicon order, speech acts, and semantics.

Abstract

The present study aims to analyze the untranslatability occurred in the subtitle of The Big 4 (2022) movie from Indonesian as the source language (SL) to French as the target language (TL). The words or phrases in the subtitles taken from a movie streaming platform, Netflix, were analyzed using a qualitative method to analyze the type of untranslatability; whether it is a lexical or cultural untranslatability, factors that influence, and the techniques used by the translator to overcome the issues. The findings showed the existence of untranslatability in 107 instances, 24 of which were at the lexical level and 83 in cultural aspects. The translator utilized nine different translation techniques to address the untranslatability, including borrowing, naturalization, adaptation, particularisation, modulation, generalization, calque, established equivalence, and transposition. However, regardless of the phenomenon of untranslatability, the act of translation must continue. It is the duty of translators to be skillful in finding the equivalent expressions in the TL.
