Abstract

Social harmony is a necessary condition for creating social stability in a plural society. Social stability will encourage the emergence of positive social interactions. This study examines the involvement of the Muslim community in participating in Hindu community rituals. This type of research is qualitative with the hermeneutic and verstehen methods. The theory used is symbolic and structural functional interactionism by developing the concepts of tolerance, solidarity and social harmony. The findings in the field are that the involvement of the Muslim community in the rituals of odalan (temple festival), cremation and mapag toya (welcoming the flowing of water) are form of social awareness of their existence in an area that shares the goal of social stability. To achieve this they develop a tolerant attitude and then manifest solidarity in their activities. From this understanding emerges social stability which shows social harmony in the region.

Abstract

AbstractThe study focuses on monotransitive objective-focus(OV) agents in Balinese. The evidence shown in thisstudy supports the claim that monotransitive OV agentsare subject to indefiniteness conditions. These conditionsare motivated by the fact that monotransitive OV agentsappear with verbs which are zero-marked. AV agents, onthe other hand, appear with verbs which are inherentlymarked. They are not sensitive to the condition. Nor areditransitive OV agents whose verbs get marked either viaapplicativization or causativization process. Looked at inthis way, ditransitive OV agents behave like AV agents ingeneral. OV agents contains syntactically independent NPswhich may be reduced to a bare N or expanded into a morecomplex NP, confirming that they are not analyzable as anincorporated or cliticized material.

Abstract

AbstractDemocratic culture in the lives of villagers in Bali has some of the proceduralprinciples of a modern democracy. Some parameters are the rotation of power, open leadership recruitment systems, order management turnover, recognitionof appropriate manners, tolerance of differences of opinion, and accountabilityof power holders. Application of democratic culture clearly affects how desapakraman elaborates the concept of democracy as a power base andindependence. In addition, it also determines the shape and nature of relationsbetween the desa pakraman with desa dinas, this condition could be the basis ofprocedural democracy as one of the values of local wisdom in the development ofcultural tourism in Bali

Abstract

This article analysis forms of verbal abuse of cursing in myths of Balinese culture. The politeness of a language varies based on its speaker’s culture. Things that are considered polite or not polite in one culture, often associated with something that is respected, sacred, taboo, and/or hidden, such as, beliefs of its ancestors, parents, supernatural beings, as well as body parts that were respected or hidden. Degrading, cursing, swearing, and mocking acts appeared to be the contrary of language politeness. Therefore, both politeness and verbal violence are closely related to the culture of its speakers. In relation to the Balinese culture, some verbal violence applied in some of the Balinese myths. The verbal violence found in myth can be grouped into two types, which were first in the form of threats and second, in the form of curse-shaped. Based on the data found, the verbal abuses of curses found in the myth were of difficult childbirth, child expulsion, misfortune, and picking up jewelry, and pregnancy.

The mapping was done using the overlay technique aided Geographical Information System (GIS) in which the 2002 land use map and the 2009 land use map. The analysis of the effectiveness of the local government policy was done using regulating documents, observation of in the field, and analysing community evaluation (involving subak leader/pekaseh, farmer/subak member, and chairman traditional village/klian). The study shows that the spatial distribution of the rice field land conversion form cluster pattern. This pattern emerged because of the contagious nature of the rice field land conversion that influenced by development in the sorrounding environment. The implementation of the local government policy is not effective. This is supported by some weakness in the regulation system, an increase in rice field conversion facts and negative respon from the community of the local government policy implementation. In order to make the control of the rice field land conversion run effectively, the local government should reorient the development priorities to the agricultural sector by engaging the partisipant of the local community such as subak.
