Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of problem-based learning in improving mathematical literacy, particularly in statistics, in classes dominated by introverted and extroverted students. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative analysis, conducted at a private high school in Bogor. Data were collected through pretests and posttests to measure learning improvements, as well as observations during the learning process to examine interactions and student responses. The results showed that the implementation of problem-based learning significantly enhanced mathematical literacy in both classes. Although there were variations in interaction dynamics based on students' personality types, no significant difference was found in learning improvement between the introverted and extroverted classes. These findings indicate that problem-based learning can be effectively implemented for students with different personality types.  Keywords: Problem Based Learning, Mathematical Literacy, Introvert, Extrovert.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) remains a significant public health issue in Purwokerto, with the increasing number of cases influenced by environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, rainfall, and population density. Accurate and adaptive predictive methods are essential to anticipate the spread of DHF, one of which involves the application of machine learning algorithms. This study aims to compare the performance of three algorithms, namely Naïve Bayes, Binary Logistic Regression, and Support Vector Machine (SVM), in predicting DHF risk in Purwokerto. Secondary data were obtained from the Health Office, Meteorology Agency (BMKG), and Statistics Bureau (BPS), covering DHF case records and environmental factors. The analysis was conducted using a quantitative predictive approach, employing 5-Fold Cross Validation and evaluation metrics including accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score. The results indicate that the SVM model demonstrated the highest performance with an accuracy of 82% and a high recall rate for the positive class, making it effective for DHF risk mapping. The Naïve Bayes model showed adequate sensitivity but lower precision, while the Binary Logistic Regression model produced the lowest overall performance. This study recommends SVM as the most effective algorithm to support early warning systems and risk mitigation for DHF based on environmental data in Purwokerto.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach on students’ mathematical literacy skills and to determine whether learning styles contribute to variations in learning outcomes. This research employs a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method using a Nonequivalent Pretest–Posttest Control Group Design involving two eighth-grade classes. Data were collected through mathematical literacy tests administered as pretests and posttests, a learning-style questionnaire, and an observation sheet to evaluate the implementation of the learning approach. The data were analyzed using an independent t-test and Two-Way ANOVA. The results show that students taught using the RME approach achieved higher posttest scores, with the experimental class obtaining an average of 69.46 (SD = 6.432), compared to the control class with an average of 58.21 (SD = 8.189). The independent t-test indicated a significant difference between the two groups (t = –5.717; p = 0.000), suggesting that the RME approach is effective in improving students’ mathematical literacy skills. Furthermore, visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles were found to have no significant effect on mathematical literacy, and no interaction was observed between the learning approach and learning styles. These findings indicate that the improvement in mathematical literacy is primarily influenced by the instructional approach rather than differences in students’ learning styles.

Abstract

Modern mathematics education must shift from merely "knowing" mathematics to "doing" mathematics. This "doing" process inherently demands strong problem-solving skills, which can only flourish in students who have internalized Habits of Mind as part of their intellectual character. In this study, we report on the effect of a flipped classroom learning model, assisted by the eXe-Learning application, on the mathematical problem-solving abilities of students with high, moderate, and low categories of Habits of Mind. This study employed a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design. The sampling technique used was cluster random sampling, with classes serving as the clusters. Research data were collected using two types of instruments: test and questionnaires. The data were analyzed using a two-way ANOVA with unequal cell sizes, preceded by prerequisite tests for normality and homogeneity. Based on the analysis, it can be concluded that the flipped classroom model assisted by the eXe-Learning application has a significant effect on both students' mathematical problem-solving abilities and their Habits of Mind. However, the interaction between the flipped classroom model and students' Habits of Mind did not have a significant effect on their mathematical problem-solving abilities. Abstract

This study aims to model and analyze the optimal time from the time of the cracker production process from the beginning to completion using the Max-Plus algebraic approach at the cracker factory. The study was conducted by collecting data from the field, following the diagram of the production process, modeling mathematically using the Max-Plus algebra, and conducting a simulation calculation using the Scilab program. The results showed that the production process could be required in the Max-Plus algebra matrix equation. The results also showed that the production of cracker crackers can be done periodically, taking about 590 minutes per unit, or about 10 hours in total to complete one production unit. If it is adjusted to the factory work schedule that runs from 05.00 WIB to 15.00 WIB, then 1 production unit can be completed in 1 day, while 10 units require 4 days. Abstract

Learning in the introductory mathematics technology course faces various challenges, especially in connecting theory with practical applications due to the difficulty of understanding abstract mathematical concepts. This shows the need for a more applicable and innovative learning guide. This study aims to develop a PjBL-based guidebook to the needs of the introductory mathematics technology course. The method applied is Research and Development (R&D). The development model used is the ADDIE model. In this study, the data collected was divided into two types, namely qualitative and quantitative data. Qualitative data was obtained from the stages of criticism, suggestions, and responses given by the material validator and media validator. Quantitative data was obtained through a filled-in response questionnaire. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire using a Likert scale. The validation results showed that an average of 86.9% of this product was feasible. This practical guidebook is very flexible to use by various student characteristics and has an easy-to-understand interface or presentation structure. The trial results showed that overall 80% of this practical guidebook was classified as very good in supporting the student learning process, especially in terms of project activities and discussions. This book is ready to use in practicums and provides a strong foundation for students to develop their skills in real projects. Keywords: Development, Guidebook, PjBL, Mathematics Technology

Abstract

One of the famous micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM) in Cawas, Klaten, Central Java, is cowhide rambak. Its existence has been around for a long time until now. In fact, this place is known as the Rambak village. Cowhide Rambak is one of the UMKM rambaks that continues to grow. This UMKM faces problems with optimizing the distribution costs of its products. Cowhide rambak sends its products to three distributors in Klaten, Sukoharjo, and Yogyakarta and offline, with a monthly transportation cost of IDR 879,000.00. The management of this cowhide rambak UMKM has not been able to reduce shipping costs due to limited human resources. This study will find the optimum shipping costs for rambak UMKM products in the Cawas Rambak Village. Data collection was carried out by interviewing UMKM owners, observing production activities, and documenting sales activities and shipping of UMKM products. The data that has been collected is then analyzed using transportation cost optimization with the Vogel approach. The shipping cost of the product before using the Vogel approach method is Rp879,000.00, while the transportation cost of shipping the product using the Vogel approach is Rp832,000.00. Cowhide rambak UMKM is able to save Rp47,000.00 per month. KEYWORDS: Optimization, UMKM Rambak, Vogel

Abstract

The implementation of the Understanding by Design (UbD) model in mathematics instruction aims to establish a planning framework focused on conceptual understanding and knowledge transfer. By integrating differentiated instruction and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles, UbD provides a systematic foundation for designing adaptive and inclusive learning experiences. Through a literature review of relevant theories and educational practices, a conceptual framework is developed to support responsiveness to the diverse needs, learning styles, and characteristics of students. Findings indicate that the integration of UbD with adaptive and inclusive strategies enhances student engagement, accessibility, and learning outcomes in mathematics. This approach is relevant for fostering equitable, meaningful, and contextual learning across educational levels. Abstract

A worldwide public health concern, hepatitis B is brought on by an infection with the Hepatitis B Virus (HBV). HBV can spread when an infected person's blood or bodily fluids come into contact with you. Prevention of HBV infection can be done through two doses of HBV vaccination. Hepatitis B sufferers experience two phases of infection, namely the acute phase and the chronic phase. Hepatitis B sufferers who have entered the chronic phase require treatment to improve recovery. This study aims to model the dynamics of the spread of hepatitis B with the presence of vaccines and treatment. The mathematical model developed consists of seven subpopulations, namely: susceptible (S), first dose vaccine (V1), second dose vaccine (V2), acute (A), chronic (C), treatment (T), and recovered (R). Two equilibrium points are produced by model analysis: the endemic equilibrium point (E1). and the disease-free equilibrium point (E0). The Next Generation Matrix was used to get the Basic Reproduction Number (R0). The analysis's findings suggest that hepatitis B transmission does not spread if R0, as this indicates that the disease-free equilibrium point (E1) is locally asymptotically stable. Conversely, if R0 , then the disease-free equilibrium point (E0) is locally asymptotically unstable, resulting in infection in the susceptible population (S). The dynamics of the mathematical model is demonstrated by numerical simulations. Keywords: Hepatitis B Virus; Mathematical Model; vaccination; treatment.
