Abstract

The Qur’ān and Sunnah often justify their rulings that reference the benefits to be achieved from them. Islamic rulings serve to achieve certain objectives and purposes, and it is duty of a Muslim jurist to determine these rulings in consideration of the conditions of his time. Recognizing the rulings in Islam are to achieve certain objectives and purposes contemporary scholar Fethullah Gülen focused on higher objectives of Islam (maqāsid al-shariah) to find solutions of Muslims in his time. In this essay, I tried to analyse higher objectives of Islam in relevance to governance, the state, democracy, public policy and the place of women in family and society. The essay aimed to provide the perspective of Gülen on these issues and analysed his effort in renaissance in the Islamic world.

Abstract

Syi'ah is a group of Muslims who believe that sayyidina Ali ra. is a person who has the right to be a successor to the prophet, because the Prophet SAW. willed that his successor after death was sayidina Ali bin Abi Talib. The existence of new streams that emerge at this time is some of the other schools that are a challenge from the previous one too, from time to time and continue to always be there. Until now the above phenomenon cannot be avoided. Freedom of religion is an open choice for the community that leads to the progress of democracy. testament delivered by the Prophet Muhammad to "appoint Ali ibn Abi Talib to be caliph after the Prophet Muhammad. named after the hadith "Ghadir Khumm" used by the Shiites. Whoever violates this will be cursed by Allah and the Apostle. The religion brought by the prophet, until he died, was only one, namely Islam, not divided, Shi'a and Sunnah were not yet born. Furthermore, after the Prophet's death, it turns out there is a hadith or history that is considered by the Shiites as a will of the Prophet Muhammad. to the ummah to appoint Sayyidina Ali to the Caliph when he died. In terms of history, both believe there is a substitute for the Holy Prophet. namely the Shiite group, saidina Ali ra. minus three caliphs, while the sunnah saidina Ali ra. plus three other caliphs. According to Shi'a the appointment of Ali was based on revelation, while the appointment of the caliph according to the sunnah was through the ijtihad of Companions. Such understanding does not damage the joints of the faith in Islam, because they both adhere to the Qur'an and Sunnah. From a cultural point of view the Sunnah is culturally Shia. The proof is the existence of distinctive Shi'a traditions which are still being carried out by the sunnah; such as: the grave pilgrimage tradition, tahlilan, ark and so on. The tradition was born in the form of Shafi'i schools. So, outside of Syafi'i, inside Shi'a, or vice versa the tradition of Shi'a inside is sunnah.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to identify a correlation between teacher’s strategy and students’ writing ability. Teachers have to modify their strategies in teaching writing related to their students performances, abilities and backgrounds. The first phase of the project involves a screening interview where we identify students’ difficulties in writing. We also use students’ writing products to validate answers on the screening interview. The final phase involves observations and questionnaires where we use several assessments to confirm the student’s diagnosis and examine the connection between their abilities and strategies that teacher used. The result shows that the teacher’s strategies in teaching writing boost students to develop their ideas in writing, especially in enhancing vocabulary and getting better at grammar. Lastly, it is suggested to the teacher to be able to use the strategies in the classroom called cognitive, meta-cognitive, affective and social.

Abstract

The Friday prayer is fardu 'ain for every male Muslim, this has become an ijma' (agreement) without any difference of opinion among the scholars. According to most scholars, Friday prayers are carried out in congregation with an uninterrupted row of empty more than 9 people, whereas if one row of rows of shaf is empty there are less than nine people, that is fine. However, the conditions for the validity of Friday prayers such as those that must be performed in the city, with a certain number, must be carried out in a mosque and there is no mention of the implementation of Friday prayers, according to Sheikh Ahmad bin Siddiq Al-Ghummari, these conditions do not have the proof of sharia. to her. It is strengthened again by the interpretation of the meaning of ذكرالله in verse 9 of surah al-Jumuah. This word literally means "remembering Allah." However, ذكرالله in this verse according to the jumhur ulama means "Friday prayer." This opinion was rejected by Sheikh Ahmad bin Siddiq Al-ghummari, according to him the lafaz means Friday sermons, because of that, it is permissible to hear Friday sermons even though they are broadcast via broadcast. radio, not necessarily in a mosque. According to Sheikh Ahmad bin Siddiq al-Ghummari, the implementation of Friday prayers at home via radio is valid with three conditions: First, the time of its implementation is concurrent or not performed by those who participate outside the prayer time (because every prayer must be done on time). Second, the country or place of congregational prayer must be behind the country or place of prayer for the imam, because the legal requirements for congregational prayer are: the priest must be in front of the congregation. Third, the congregation must be in one place with other people, even if only one person is with him, because at least the condition for the group is only two people.

Abstract

A novel can represent reality. Thus, a character in a novel with his or her complexitymight be a portrait or a representation of a real person. This article discusses representations or images of women in three novels from three different social backgrounds. They are Kalau Tak Untung (Selasih, Indonesia), Far From The MaddingCrowd (Thomas Hardy, England), and The Great Gatsby (F. Scott Fitzgerald, UnitedStates). All of these three novels represent women in both positive and negative images. The positive images are: independent, hard working, rebellious, and futuristic (in thinking). Meanwhile, the negative images are reckless, naïve, materialistic, seductive, unfaithful, egoist, and passive. The three novels show some facts. The first is that womenwill work hard when they are in an unpleasant situation, particularly when they needmoney. In this situation, they will not mind doing a man’s job. The second similarity isthat woman with good education seems to have better behavior than those who lackeducation. The third fact is that there are some women who value their happiness by thewealth they can get.
