Abstract

This study aims to analyze WhatsApp group–based learning on the achievement and learning difficulties of elementary school students. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with a case study approach. The population of this study was elementary schools in Porong District, Sidoarjo Regency, selected through a purposive sampling technique from several informants. Informants consisted of teachers, parents of students, and students. Data collection in this study was carried out through (1) interviews, (2) observation, and (3) documentation. Data collected through interviews, observation, and documentation were then analyzed using inductive descriptive techniques. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and data verification. The results of the study showed that an average of the three respondents agreed with WhatsApp-based learning as much as 28.5%, and those who disagreed were 71.48%. These results indicate that WA-based learning is not a problem to implement in elementary schools, but in its application, there are obstacles experienced by teachers, parents, and students, including the lack of facilities owned and students becoming bored with the learning process.

Abstract

Teachers are an important component in determining the learning process in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). The second report of the teacher education project for ESD Asia–Pasific held on 17th–19th September 2019 in Bangkok produced a competency framework for ESD teachers. This framework defines the competencies required by teachers to be involved in ESD which are implemented, developed, and evaluated by teacher education institutions. There are three domains in the teacher competency framework for ESD: facilitate learning, continue to learn and create, as well as connect, collaborate, and engage. However, this study only focused on one domain, which was learning facility. A total of 25 teachers from nine elementary schools provided their best answers based on the existing reality through a questionnaire distributed by the researchers about ESD-based teacher competence in the domain of the learning facility. This study aimed to determine the extent to which teachers understand and implement ESD-based competence in the domain of learning facilities in elementary schools. The data were processed with the Rasch model through the Winsteps application. The results of this study indicated that the teachers were able to implement it very well, but the idea was that the teachers still did not know that what they did led to ESD-based teachers' competence in the domain of learning facility.

Abstract

Learning in Indonesia is conducted by applying the classical system, also known as face-to-face learning. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, everyone was required to shift to online learning, including in elementary schools. This research utilized a quantitative approach, specifically a quantitative correlational method. The samples were collected using the Problem Examination procedure with a regular randomized examination strategy (Methodical Irregular Examining). From a population of 160 students, 32 samples were obtained. The results of this study showed that: (1) The mean scores obtained were 3.94, 3.91, and 3.94; (2) Parental participation had a direct effect on students’ learning achievement in Kecamatan Singkut, with a score of 6.013 > 2.048, indicating a significant influence of parental participation on learning achievement; and (3) Audio-visual media, parental participation, and learning motivation contributed 57.8% to learning achievement, based on the effective contribution value of each variable used in the study, while the remaining 42.2% was influenced by other variables not included in this research.

Abstract

This research aimed to develop a contextual learning–based audiovisual media and examine its validity. This study utilized the Research and Development (R&D) method, referring to Borg and Gall’s development model which consisted of six stages: (1) problem analysis, (2) data collection, (3) product design, (4) validation, (5) product revision, and (6) product trial testing. The study was conducted on fourth-grade students at SD Negeri Salatuhur. Based on the validity examined by the experts—media expert, language expert, and material expert—the average score of the validity from the media expert was 92% in the very feasible category. The average validity score from the material expert was 85.49% in the very feasible category. Meanwhile, the average validity score from the language expert was 94.16%, also in the very feasible category. Moreover, the results of students’ responses obtained a score of 97.49% in the very feasible category. Based on the research results, the final product of a contextual learning–based audiovisual media on the material of energy sources and their changes was feasible to be utilized for learning activities of fourth-grade elementary school students.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the outbreak of COVID-19, which was very influential in education and other aspects of life. As a result, the government closed the schools and made a rule to implement online learning (in the network). Thus, we needed a solution or alternative to solve these problems. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was recommended to use innovative online learning media, especially for elementary school students, to increase their motivation while studying at home. Not all online learning methods could be used in the ICT learning process, which was related to practical activities. YouTube-based learning media was used in the online learning process for ICT subjects. The purpose of this study was to reveal the procedure of utilizing YouTube for online learning in elementary schools. This study used a library research method, while the data sources used in the study were in the form of journals and books related to the research title. The data were collected through the documentation of several research sources, either from journals or books. Then, they were processed and analyzed to draw conclusions. The results of the research found that utilizing YouTube as a teaching material in ICT learning was very much needed by educators in today's situations.
