Abstract

Teachers are an essential key in improving the quality of education. One of the characteristics of good quality education is creating a good learning process, starting from planning, implementation, and evaluation. In line with this, the teachers’ ability to evaluate students is needed, one of which is the HOTS question. The HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skill) question refers to an instrument used to measure higher-order thinking skills, namely the ability to remember and restate or refer without processing. The research used was School Action Research (PTS) using the Kemmis and Mc. Taggart. This research was conducted at SD Negeri 023 Semoga Jaya. The subjects of this research were eight teachers. Two cycles showed an increase in the results of the performance indicator assessment. The average obtained in the first cycle was <75, while in the second cycle, the average obtained after more intense actions was >75. This result was very satisfying because the teachers understood how to make HOTS questions as learning objectives in the Mid-Semester Exam.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a feasible Indonesian spelling textbook for elementary school students. This book is a kind of material and practice book. This research utilized Research and Development (R&D), and adopted Four-D development model consisting of four stages: (1) define, (2) design, (3) develop, and (4) disseminate. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the stages were simplified and terminated before the disseminate stage. The subjects of the readability test were 5 grade II teachers and 5 grade II students at SDN Bendo 1 Blitar City. The data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The data were then analyzed by applying descriptive quantitative and qualitative methods. The results revealed that the book was classified into the feasible category. The book obtained a percentage of 84.55% from the experts of materials and Bahasa Indonesia, and 83.75% from the experts of book design. Then, the result of readability test conducted on students obtained the percentage of 100% (very feasible). The result of interviews conducted with students also showed a positive response towards the textbook. Furthermore, the result of readability test conducted on teachers obtained the percentage of 100% (very feasible). Based on the interviews with the teachers, it was revealed that the book facilitated teachers in the writing process using correct Indonesian spelling.

Abstract

This research was initiated by learning which was still dominated by teachers without training students to carry out learning activities in the form of problem investigation, problem solving, and decision making; as a result, students' critical thinking skills were less trained. In addition, the test given to the students only measured the level of knowledge and understanding of students so that students' skills were not identified. For this reason, this research sought to improve students' critical thinking skills through search, solve, create, and share (SSCS) learning model. This research was a classroom action research conducted at grade VA students at SDN 021 Sitorajo Kari, totaling 20 students. The instruments were observation sheets and critical thinking skills test. The results showed that the actions taken by the teacher in cycle I reached 65.62% with sufficient category, the student activity reached 62.5% with the sufficient category, and the students' critical thinking skills were 66.4% with sufficient category. Then, in cycle II, the teacher's action increased to 84.37% with good category, the students’ activity also increased to 81.12% with good category, and the students' critical thinking skills also increased by 76.8%, which was in good category. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that search, solve, create, and share (SSCS) learning model improved the students’ critical thinking skills at grade VA SDN 021 Sitorajo Kari.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic presents many new challenges for teachers, especially female teachers who teach at the elementary level. It was assumed that communication between family members helped teachers through difficult times during the Covid-19 pandemic. This research was conducted to observe the role of family communication patterns, both in the conversation and conformity dimensions, as a mediator in the relationship between social support perceptions and psychological welfare of female elementary school teachers. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between social support perceptions and psychological welfare, both directly (β = 0.57, t (117) = 7.91, p = 0.000) and indirectly through the conversation dimension of family communication pattern (coefficient = 0.42, SE = 0.07, CI = 0.27–0.56). On the other hand, family communication patterns emphasizing conformity in belief did not act as a mediator because they did not show a significant relationship with psychological welfare (coefficient = -0.11, SE = 0.10, CI = -0.32–0.10, p = 0.300). The results implied that social support from various sources was needed by teachers in facing the pandemic situation in order to be happy, regardless of communication patterns at home.

Abstract

This research was a quantitative study with a quasi-experimental research type. The purpose of this study was to determine the differences in creative thinking skills between students taught by visualization, auditory, kinesthetic (VAK) model and students taught by direct learning model. This research was conducted at grade IV SDN 2 Pagelaran. The data collection technique was done by testing. The main instrument in this research was a test of students' creative thinking skills. Then, data were analyzed through descriptive statistic data and inferential statistical data. The posttest results revealed that the average score of students' creative thinking skills in the experimental class was 68.8, while the average score in the control class was 58.6. It was seen from the average difference test that the comparison of the testing criteria was tcount ≥ ttable or 4.41 ≥ 2.019. From the results, it was stated that there was a difference in students' creative thinking abilities between the control class and the experimental class. After that, it was also tested with the right side test in which tcount ≥ ttable or 4.09 ≥ 1.671, with a significant level of 0.05. Based on the results, it was concluded that the students had better creative thinking abilities after being taught by visualization, auditory, kinesthetic (VAK) model than students taught by direct learning model.
