Abstract

Street children, including punk youth, are often associated with negative social stigmas such as delinquency, deviance, and public disorder. However, this generalization does not fully capture the lived experiences of punk youth, particularly those involved in the Bikers Subuhan Community in Kotamobagu. This study aims to examine the hijrah process, the factors motivating it, and the transformation of religious behavior among punk youth after joining the community. Employing a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, this research focuses on the subjective experiences and meanings constructed by the participants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation, involving former punk youth as primary informants, as well as community leaders and residents as supporting informants. The findings reveal that hijrah is understood as a multilayered and ongoing spiritual transformation, encompassing i‘tiqadiyah hijrah (realignment of faith and intention), fikriyah hijrah (transformation of mindset), syu‘uriyyah hijrah (shifts in preferences and lifestyles), and sulukiyyah hijrah (moral and behavioral transformation). This process unfolds gradually through personal experiences, emotional struggles, and strong community support. Analysis based on Max Weber’s theory of social action indicates that post-hijrah behavioral changes are shaped by the interplay of instrumental rationality, value-oriented rationality, traditional action, and affective action. The study concludes that hijrah among marginalized groups is not merely a symbolic change but a profound reconstruction of identity, life orientation, and social relations, contributing to the strengthening of religious commitment and community solidarity.

Abstract

This study examines the dimension of syifa' (healing) in the Quran and its relevance to the properties of Guraka as a traditional beverage of North Maluku. The Quran mentions the concept of syifa' in six verses, which scholars understand as holistic healing encompassing spiritual, psychological, and physical dimensions. This qualitative research employs the tafsir maudhui (thematic exegesis) method combined with an ethnographic approach, with primary data sources consisting of classical commentaries (al-Thabari, Ibn Katsir, al-Qurthubi, al-Razi) and contemporary ones (Sayyid Quthb, Hamka, M. Quraish Shihab, Wahbah al-Zuhaili), as well as field data from North Maluku. The findings reveal: (1) the concept of syifa' in the Quran is holistic and integrative in nature; (2) Guraka has a strong pharmacological basis, with bioactive compounds proven to possess analgesic, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory effects; (3) there exists a theological coherence between Quranic syifa' and the Guraka tradition, which integrates al-dawa' (herbal medicine), al-du'a' (prayer), and al-tawakkul (complete reliance upon Allah). This study proposes the paradigm of "Syifa' Rooted in Local Wisdom" as an academic contribution to the development of Islamic-Nusantara health theology.

Abstract

The phenomenon of veiled female students in higher education is an important subject of study because it often gives rise to various social perceptions in campus interactions. This study aims to examine the interpersonal communication between veiled female students, non-veiled female students, and the opposite sex, as well as to identify the barriers that emerge in the communication process. This research employed a qualitative approach at the State Islamic Institute of Sultan Amai Gorontalo. Informants were selected using the snowball sampling technique. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and observation, and were analyzed descriptively using a qualitative approach. The findings show that the interpersonal communication of veiled female students is contextual and adaptive. In interactions with non-veiled female students, communication tends to be carried out carefully in order to maintain comfort and avoid misunderstandings. Meanwhile, communication with the opposite sex tends to be more limited, conducted only when necessary, and oriented toward clear purposes. The barriers to communication include difficulties in interpreting facial expressions, unclear voice delivery, and differences in the interlocutors’ experiences.

Abstract

From the 15th to the 17th century, Gorontalo women alternated with men in holding royal power for many years. This gender equality, which lasted for three centuries, began to erode with the arrival of colonial powers. Fears of sexual violence led parents to hide their daughters, causing prolonged psychological pressure and eventual marginalization. After independence, adat bersendi syara’ rituals sought to restore balance by honoring women and creating space for their resurgence. This study aims to explore traditional practices that uplift women, their implications for gender equality, and the challenges of preserving these values. Findings show that rituals for women begin early in life to instill purity, dignity, and confidence so they may grow into pious individuals. These rituals protect women from violence, internalize Islamic teachings, and strengthen their self-confidence. However, over the past century, patriarchy, the profanization of rituals, the expansion of formal education, and globalization have hindered the optimization of women’s roles. These findings are crucial for strengthening gender equality grounded in Islam and local cultural traditions.

Abstract

The S-Line phenomenon on social media represents a digital cultural trend that originates from the Korean drama S-Line and has brought about ethical concerns in the realm of public digital spaces. The symbol of the “red line,” which initially signified intimate relationships, has evolved into an expression of self-identity, resulting in questions regarding privacy, modesty, and the disclosure of personal matters. This research seeks to examine the S-Line trend and its ethical ramifications through the lens of hadith. Employing a qualitative methodology that involves virtual field research, data were obtained by observing social media content and user interactions. The results indicate that S-Line serves not only as a source of entertainment but also as a medium for individuals to represent their identities by publicly displaying personal elements, either with full awareness or simply by conforming to popular trends. Viewed from the perspective of hadith, this phenomenon is associated with the prohibition against al-mujāharah and underscores the importance of ḥayā’ (modesty) in safeguarding personal dignity. Consequently, the S-Line phenomenon exemplifies a transformation in moral standards within the digital era, highlighting the need for ethical guidance grounded in prophetic teachings.
