Abstract

The current practice of profit-sharing in rice farming tends to be unfair and disadvantageous to tenant farmers. This study aims to analyze the policies, implementation, weaknesses, and improvement efforts regarding profit-sharing in rice farming. The researcher employed a qualitative approach with a narrative method. The employed data collection methods comprised interviews, observations, and documentation. Subsequently, the gathered data underwent analysis using Miles and Huberman’s model, encompassing data reduction, visualization, and verification/conclusion. Research findings reveal that profit-sharing arrangements between tenant farmers and landowners are frequently communicated orally, remaining privy solely to the involved parties. Tenant farmers bear the entire burden of production costs and the risk of crop failure, leading to disproportionate profit distribution. Additionally, landowners may unilaterally terminate agreements. To address these issues, written profit-sharing agreements are necessary. The allocation of production costs in farming, including the payment of rice farming insurance (AUTP) premiums to mitigate the risk of crop failure, should be clearly and fairly established, ensuring it does not unduly burden any party involved. In addition, profit distribution should align with contributions. Furthermore, termination of the agreements should not be unilateral and must be in coordination with the local government. Therefore, establishing these aspects within Regional Regulations is crucial for ensuring fair and mutually beneficial profit-sharing practices.

Abstract

In fact, the magnitude of the economic potential worth of tobacco commodities is not directly proportionate to the conditions encountered by farmers in the field. Tobacco farmers in Bajang Village are faced with many problems that may indicate risks that threaten the sustainability of farming activities. The goals of this research are to: (1) identify the risks faced by farmers in tobacco farming, (2) evaluate the level of risk in tobacco farming, and (3) examine the composition of mitigation strategy for prioritized risks in tobacco farming in Bajang Village. Respondents in this study consisted of key informants and 43 farmers using the Fishbone Diagram and FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) analysis methods. According to the analysis result, there are a total of 15 risks based on five risk sources: production, price and market, finance, human resource, and institutional. Weather and climate uncertainty, price uncertainty, quality and quantity uncertainty, pest and disease attacks, and farmers' lack of insight are the top five risks. Mitigation strategies are presented in an attempt to lessen the impact of risks on tobacco farming.

This study uses Aceh Provincial Agricultural Census data for the food crop subsector from 3,353 rice farming households across the province in 2013. The analytical model used is a multivariate probit model, which consists of two dependent variables, i.e., harvest size, and farmer household perceptions. The following table estimates farmer households' perceptions of the various constraints faced that have led to a decline in farmer household productivity. All factors that are the focus of this study are positively perceived by rice farmers. The probability of an expansion of rice harvest area due to the loan factor, the ratio of input prices to output prices and climate change is more than 60 percent. While the perception of farmer households on the availability and wages of farm laborers at 57.7 percent. The implication of several factor’s explaining that capital loans, changes in input and output ratios and climate change on rice farming households is positive any increase in access to loans, improvement in the value of output-input ratios, stability of climate change and farm labor wages will positively affect the probability of increasing the harvest area of rice farming households in Aceh Province.

Abstract

This research investigated how shrimp farmers perceive climate change and what factors influence their decision to implement adaptation strategies. Surveys were conducted with 150 households in Tambakan, Kalianyar, Raci 1, and Raci 2. Over the past five years, information about climate change has primarily reached farmers through radio and television (54%). The majority (96.21%) perceived climate change as manifested by altered rainfall patterns, rising pond water temperatures (98.71%), declining production yields (95.41%), and an increase in shrimp pests and diseases (96.23%). The researchers classified climate change adaptation strategies into four categories and used logit regression analysis to identify factors influencing their adoption. They found that the determinants of adoption varied across these categories. Based on these findings, the study concludes that raising awareness about the impact of climate change on shrimp farming is crucial for farmers to choose suitable adaptation strategies. Additionally, strengthening institutional support through improved access to association borrowing, markets, extension services, farm group activities, and use of climate-resistant shrimp varieties can contribute to increased farm production.
