MoreovThose er, every culture has its own peculiarity that is not owned by another culture. This fact that may cause so many specific words, terms,  and other unique cultural  events are created. This unique cultural product makes other people fom different cultures difficult to find the equivalences in their cultures and languages. Even those specific terms cannot be translated translated into other languages, especially English. Those unique cultural products include: 1) kinds of traditional foods (nagasari, thiwul, kethoprak, sega liwet); 2) agricultural tools (pacul, jompong, ani ani); 3) agricultural activity (ndhaut, matun, derep, ngasak); 4) kitchen utensils (siwur, keren, anglo, kukusan);  5) names of small plants (garut, ganyong, uwi); 6) music and art (saron, gender, kenong); 7) javanese songs (megatruh, sinom, pocong, slendro pelog); 8) names of dances (gambir anom, gambyong, klono bagus); 9) serving tools (takir, tumpeng, golong, sudhi); 10) clothes (kemben, jarik, blankon);  11) names of flower ( ketheker, karok, mayang); 12) names of leaves (sinom, blarak, jlegor); 13) ceremonies (sepasaran, midodareni, nyadranan, tingkepan, nyewu); and many others. It is very difficult to find the equivalences of those cultural products, or even they cannot be translated into other languages at all, especially in English. If this happens, the translator has just to write them in the source language by providing the specific notes or explaination about the meaning of  those words according to the texts in a target language.

Abstract

Literature, among society, cannot be separated from the society itself. Literature lives because there is a society, a writer or an author who creates the work. In addition, literature lives from the soul of the society, meaning that the society is the object of its story. In this case, Faruk (1999: vi) clarifies that talking about literary work actually cannot be separated from society. It means that the presence of literary work is asreflection of the existence of society. It also can become the conscience of the authors by looking at the reality around them, whether from self-experience or the result of telescopic research about the attitudes of the surrounding society.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The concept of existentialism is that the existence of a person is prior to their essence. The term "existence precedes essence" subsequently became a maxim of the existentialist movement. Put simply, this means that there is nothing to dictate that person's character, goals in life, and so on; that only the individual can define their essence. This study discussed existentialism in Nausea by Jean Paul Sartre and The Immoralist by Andre Gide, through Roquentin and Michel as the Characters. Roquentin and Michels, they tend to have an absolute freedom, means there is no influence from outside. What they actually want sometimes lies no motives why they are doing that thing.

Abstract

The Sausage Party Movie is a comedy film directed by Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan (2016) which is sensational. The theme brings some controversy among people about how vulgar it is. The story exposed some sensitive themes such as intercourse, orgy, homosexuality, bisexuality, foreplay, torturing, murderer, annihilation, genocide, colonial domination, and other aspects as well. The contested scenes in the movie which manifest adult jokes are being analyzed by investigating the visual and linguistic elements related to the particular scenes. Thus, this study analyzed the adult jokes in “Sausage Party” by using multimodality approach which combines types of metafunction from Systemic Functional Linguistic (SFL) and visual elements of Gunther Kress and Theo van Leeuwen framework. The data were all scenes which contain adult jokes in this movie. The result reveals that some scenes may construct the meaning which related with the adult jokes. Despite the fact that this film is a comedy cartoon which associated with children, many adult jokes are being displayed to entertain the audiences which not suitable for underage communities. Likewise, the adult jokes are displayed as implicitly as possible to entertain either the underage who thinks it is only a usual joke or the adulthood who socially and practically understood the meaning behind it. In addition, the data is occupied by an intercourse activity between sausage and bun, torturing and murdered ideas, and also the idea of how human had intercourse from another perspective.
