Abstract

AbstractThis research is concerned with the influence of cooperative language learning technique and reading comprehension achievement on narrative text of SMA Negeri 2 Sembawa. In this study 64 students of twelfth grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Sembawa in the academic year 2017/2018 were chosen as sample by two stage random sampling. This study applied factorial research design. The data were collected by using questionnaire and t-test. The data were analyzed by using Paired Sample t-test, Independent sample t-test and Two Ways Anova. The result, there was is a significant difference in reading comprehension achievement between the students who have high learning motivation and those who have low learning motivation taught by cooperative language learning technique (CLLT). Conclusion suggest that there was a significant influence of cooperative language learning technique and learning motivation of the twelfth grade students’ reading comprehension achievement on narrative text of SMA Negeri 2 Sembawa.Keywords:Cooperative Language Learning Technique (CLLT), Learning Motivation, Reading Comprehension Achievement

Abstract

The main problem of this research was “Is it effective to teach writing narrative through stimuli questions technique to the tenth-grade students of State High School 1 of Palembang?”. Therefore, the main objective of this research was to find out whether or not it was effective teaching writing narrative paragraphs through the stimuli question technique to the tenth-grade students of State High School 1 of Palembang. The method of this research was the experimental method. The population of this study was the tenth-grade students of State High School 1 of Palembang, in the academic year of 2016/2017. The sample of this study was 39 students who were chosen by convenience sampling. The data were collected through two kinds of tests, pre-test, and post-test. The data were analyzed by a matched t-test. Based on the results of the data analysis, it was found that the students’ average score in the pre-test was 59.1, and the students’ average score in the post-test was 68.6. Based on the matched t-test calculation, it was found out that the t-obtained was 8.84. the critical value of a 5% significance level was 1.684. it showed that t-obtained was higher than the t-table. From this study, it was found that teaching writing narrative paragraphs through stimuli questions technique to the tenth-grade students of State High School 1 of Palembang was effective.

Abstract

ABSTRACT                         The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of discussion method and cognitive style on students’ reading comprehension achievement. This research was an experimental study with factorial design.The total number of sample of this study is 50 students who were selected by using purposive sampling technique. The data of this study consisted of the scores on reading comprehension either through pretest or posttest for experimental and control classes, and the score of cognitive style of the pre test and post test by using SPSS 19. To find the effect of independent variable and dependent variable, and the interaction effect between independent variable on dependent variable. Based on data analysis by using to way anova, the value of f calculated is =14.40 > than the value of f table =1.64. So, the hyphothesis one which says”there is significant effect of discussion method on students’ reading comprehension achievement is accepted. Two-Way anova analysis also found that the value of f calculated on facto b (independent and dependent cognitive style) is = 0.158 < than the value of f table = 1.64. So, the hyphothesis which says “ there is any significant effect of cognitive style on students’ reading comprehension achievement “ is rejected ( Ha is rejected and Ho is accepted). then two way anova analysis found that the value of f calculated is =3.803 > than the value of f table =1.64. So, the hyphothesis three wich says” there is any significsnt effect on students’ reading comprehension achievement” is accepted (Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected). Abstract

The title of this study is improving the students’ speaking skill by using mind-mapping technique at Universitas BinaDarma. The problem of this study is: Is it effective to improve students’ speaking skill by using mind mapping technique? The purpose of this study is to know whether effective to use mind-mapping technique to improve the students’ speaking skill at Universitas BinaDarmaor not. The hypotheses of this study are: 1) H0. It is not significantly effective to improve the students speaking skill by using mind mapping technique. 2) Ha. It is significantly effective to improve the students’ speaking skill by using mind mapping technique. The method of this study was experimental method. Population of this study is Universitas BinaDarmastudents. Abstract

AbstractThis research is concerned with the influence of debate method, traditional teaching method and students’ learning motivation towards their speaking ability of the first semester of STIE Prabumulih 2017. In this study 60 students of the first semester of STIE Prabmulih 2017 in the academic year of 2017/2018 were chosen as the samples by means of cluster random sampling. This study applied factorial research design. The data were collected by using questionnaire and t-test. The data were analyzed by using Paired Sample t-test, Independent Sample t-test and Two Way Anova. Theresults showed that, first there was a significant difference in speaking ability between the students with high learning motivation and those with low learning motivation taught using debate method. Second there was a significant difference in speaking ability between the students with high learning motivation and those with low learningmotivation taught using traditional teaching method. Third there was a significant difference in speaking ability between the students with high learning motivation and those with low learning motivation taught using debate method and traditional teaching method. Last, there were not any significant interaction effects of debate method andlearning motivation towards the students’ speaking ability. The Finding suggests that there were significant influences of debate method, traditional method and students’ learning motivation towards their speaking ability of the first semester of STIE Prabumulih 2017.Keywords: Debate Method, Traditional Teaching Method, Learning Motivation, Speaking Ability

Abstract

Abstract: The purposes of this study were (1) to find out what moral values found in the novel “Bound” by Okky Madasari and (2) to describe the intrinsic elements of the novel. The method used was descriptive qualitative. Data collection was done by using documentation, book reviewer, and expert interview. The validity of the data used in this study was the triangulation theory. The data analysis technique in this study was done with qualitative data analysis techniques. The results of the study indicated that (1) The moral values of the main character, contained in the novel “Bound” by Okky Madasari were divided into moral value of humanity, the moral value of the social, moral value of justice, and moral value of religion, ad (2) the intrinsic elements of this novel consists of a plot, setting, character, and characterization. Abstract

ABSTRACTThe writer was interested in conducting this research in accordance that the students still found difficulties in comprehending recount text. It looked from the result in answering recount text, the students were not achieve the minimum criteria of achievement of English subject of Junior High School 29 of Palembang. This research was conducted in experimental research to 72 students of the eighth grade students of Junior High School 29 of Palembang in the first semester of the academic year of 2013-2014. The objectives of research were to find out whether or not (1) There was a significant difference in average score of comprehending recount texts between the students who are taught using Preview, Ask Question, Read, Summarize (PARS) strategy and those who are taught using conventional strategy; (2) There was a significant difference in average score of comprehending recount texts between the students who are in positive and negative attitude after being taught using Preview, Ask Question, Read, Summarize (PARS) strategy and those who are after being taught using conventional strategy; and (3) There was a significant interaction effect of Preview, Ask Question, Read, Summarize (PARS) strategy and the students’ reading attitude on comprehending recount texts. Abstract

ABSTRACTThe problem of this study was”is it effective to teach reading narrative text in reading comprehension by using decision making to the eighth grade students of Fitra Abdi junior high school of Palembang?.”The main objective of this study was to find out whether or not it is effective to use decision making reading in teaching reading narrative text.      This study was done through the pre-experimental method. The population of this study was 60 eighth grade students with 30 students as the sample which was chosen though cluster rendom sampling. The technique for collecting the data was a written test, pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed through the formula of matched t-test. The result of this study indicated that after teaching narrative text in reading comprehension by using decision making,the students mastery of reading comprehension improved. Their everage level increased from the (6.11) to the (6.95). it was supported by the result of the data analysis that showed the t-obtained 6.461 which exceeded 1.671 as the critical value. It mean that the Ho was rejected, and Ha was accepted. It could be concluded that it was effective to teach narrative text in reading comprehension to the eighth grade students of Fitra Abdi junior high school of Palembang. Abstract

Abstract The main problem of this study was “Is it effective using guess what game to teach English vocabulary to the eighth grade students of Junior High School Kartika Jaya of Palembang?”  The game focus on the word has relationship with action verbs. The objective of this study was to find out whether or not it was effective to use guess what game to teach English vocabulary to the eighth grade students of Junior High School Kartika Jaya of Palembang. This study used the true experimental method. The written tests were used to collect the data. The data were analyzed through the independent t-test. The population of this study was all the eighth grade students of Junior High School Kartika Jaya of Palembang in the academic year of 2017/2018. The sample students of this study were taken from the population by using cluster random sampling method. Based on the study, it was found that “guess what game” was effective in teaching English vocabulary to the eighth grade students of Junior High School Kartika Jaya of Palembang. The average score of the students in the post-test of the experimental group was 87.2. On the other hand, average score in the post-test of the control group was 85.6. The students’ scores and the result of the independent t-test computation was 2.333 in the critical value at 0.05 significance level was 2.000 and t-obtained Null Hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It means, using guess what games to the eighth grade students of Junior High School Kartika Jaya of Palembang was effective.

Abstract

AbstractThis research is concerned with collocation in the movie subtitle Coco by Molina and Matthew Aldrich. This research is a descriptive qualitative study. It is supposed to identify the English collocation found in Coco movie; to classify the types of collocation found in Coco movie; and to discuss the meanings of collocation found in Coco movie. In data collection, the research employed triangulation that presented three different techniques, namely documentation, observation and interview. Based on the findings, it is shown that there were 134data of grammatical collocations found in the movie, which consisted of 7 types of grammatical collocations. They were 1 datum of noun+preposition combination, 2 data of noun+to+infinitive, 1 datum of noun+that+clause, 7 data of preposition+noun, 3 data of adjective+preposition combinations, 4 data of predicate adjective+to+infinitive, and 116 data of collocation verb patterns.Keywords: Collocation, Types of Collocation, Subtitle, Classify.
