Abstract

Originally, mbrakah was a practice of food combining or food custom for spiritual purposes. The mbrakah tradition also can be categorized as 'food fashion.' In the global academic discourse, food culture and spirituality are important issues with strong traditional roots in Sufism and prophetic traditions, especially in Sufism. Particularly, mbrakah is even more unique because it is rooted in Sufism traditions and early Islamic norms and has been in dialogue with local wisdom, namely Indonesian Culture and, more specifically, Pesantren culture. One of the oldest Islamic educational institutions in Indonesia. In this article, We conceptualize that the mbrakah tradition does not merely stop as a food-combining tradition only carried out for personal interests. Based on the literature review, we argue that mbrakah can be transformed from theology to food ideology. Although the ideology referred to in the article is not an ideology in a complex sense, it can be a way of thinking and manifested into a movement and shared awareness about the importance of successful food diversification for food security during food problems in Indonesia. Mbrakah is a local culture and holds a religious dimension that many researchers consider, and it has the potential to be highly effective as a transformative movement.

Abstract

This article examines polarization within the Hadhrami Arab population in Bondowoso, East Java, especially in light of the rise of the 212 movement and the presidential election in 2019. During this time, the national political climate has become more tense. The issue of religion, which is drawn to political contestation, creates polarization among Muslims, including Arab Muslims. In Bondowoso, the polarization aligns with the different religious understanding backgrounds such as Sunni and Shi’a.  Nevertheless, polarization does not lead to social conflicts between them. Departing from this description, this study then focuses on two things. First, it seeks to reveal the views of Hadhrami Arabs on several national issues based on their respective religious backgrounds. Second, this study also reveals Arab intra-ethnic relations with different positions in addressing national issues. This research applied qualitative research with a case study approach to examine this focus. The study found that Arab perceptions of national issues varied according to their religious background. These perceptions correspond to their respective religious understanding. Second, although they differ in political and religious positions, the internal relations among Bondowoso Arabs are running normally without falling into violent conflict.

Abstract

Al-Jam’iyatul Washliyah (AW) and Aswaja theology are covered in this article. As a religious institution, AW acknowledges Aswaja’s ideology as the foundation for its mission. To maintain and develop Aswaja theology, AW utilizes educational institutions and recitation of the kitab kuning (yellow book) as a knowledge production for Aswaja theology. A question concerning the state of educational institutions today and the recitation of the Yellow Book at AW in Medan City was posed in order to comprehend the information presented. A case study about AW in Medan City is the qualitative research methodology that is employed. In addition, leaders, religious authorities, educators, and AW-related documents make up the primary  data source. According to his research, educational institutions that regularly support Aswaja books undergo internal changes and come to terms with the reality that teachers, or ustadh, are becoming less and less proficient in the classics. Additionally, a number of the study’s leaders””who were specialists in classic literature””passed away, which caused a setback to the kitab kuning study. Thus there was a downturn in the study of the kitab kuning. The results verify the weakening of the apparatus in AW that produces Aswaja theology.

Abstract

Radical ideology is a big problem for the Indonesian people in maintaining integrity and unity. The concept of religious moderation is a strength in maintaining the diversity and integrity of this nation. The science of Sufism is an alternative to developing moderate character with a humanist model of Sufism through Ibn Taymiyya's thoughts. This research aims to find Ibn Taymiyya's model of Sufism education to strengthen religious moderation in society. The research method used was a character biographical study, namely conducting a study of thoughts, life stories, and works produced. Data analysis used induction and interpretation techniques supported by relevant library sources so that the data presentation was more focused and valid. The study results concluded that Ibn Taymiyya's Sufism education model upholds the concepts of tawazun, tasamuh, ta'dil, tawasuth, which can encourage the formation of attitudes and moderate character. The moderate character positively impacts the maturation of social attitudes, which are beneficial for forming a complete, tolerant, and tolerant life. This attitude becomes a reinforcement in maintaining state sovereignty and togetherness between individuals. Ibn Taymiyya's model of Sufism education in practice and concept can form a moderate attitude so that religious understanding can be understood wisely, far from blind fanaticism and exclusive attitudes that can form gaps between individuals. The limitations of this research only extend to the analysis of Ibn Taymiyya's Sufism education model, which is relevant to the concept of religious moderation. The development direction for further research can be focused on Ibn Taymiyah's multicultural-based model of Sufism education in response to the era of artificial intelligence (AI).

Abstract

This article discusses the challenges of European Islam at the intersection of Islamic traditions and modern liberal democratic values and the urgency of bridging the two. European Islam is looking for a common ground that can combine reason and faith in harmony, integrate the values of modernity with the spiritual view of Islam, and identify the challenges and opportunities faced by European Islam in the context of Western liberal society. Bidar, in his contribution to the concept of European Islam, argues that religion is not only about rituals but also about profound spiritual experiences. He proposed the concept of Self Islam, which emphasizes individual freedom, personal responsibility, and spiritual connection with Allah. According to Bidar, individual freedom is the key to spiritual life. In addition, everyone can choose how to practice religion according to his spiritual needs. Bidar proposed Islamic reform, oriented towards the unification of religions and modernity, by prioritizing humanist values and human rights and reforming Islam in the light of modernity. According to him, humans become God's autonomous vicegerent on earth and have the right to manage it freely but responsibly. In addition, in harmony with Kantian, Bidar believes that human immortality can be achieved through piety and good deeds. Abstract

This research analyzes the concept of the child's best interests in divorce judgments from the perspective of the principle of maslahah, with a focus on Verdict Number 225/Pdt.G/2023/PA.Bkls. The study aims to explore how court decisions consider the welfare of the child in the context of divorce, particularly concerning custody and post-divorce financial arrangements. The analytical approach encompasses legal aspects and judicial considerations related to the principle of maslahah. The identified academic problem is the ambiguity in applying the best interests of the child principle in divorce judgments in Indonesia, which often overlooks the aspect of maslahah. The research findings indicate that although the principle of maslahah is frequently mentioned, its implementation is still limited and requires enhancement in judicial practice. This study provides an in-depth understanding of the implementation of the child's best interests in the context of divorce and recommends improvement measures to effectively protect the rights and interests of children in the future. This research is expected to guide wise decision-making among legal practitioners and judicial institutions in handling divorce cases involving children.

Abstract

The prevalence of mental health disorders in contemporary society underscores the need for effective psychotherapeutic approaches. While modern psychotherapy has made significant strides, the potential of Sufistic approaches, particularly in Islamic contexts, remains largely unexplored. This study examines the dhikr (remembrance of God) concept of Abdurrauf al-Singkili, a prominent 17th-century Indonesian Sufi, as a psychotherapeutic model. Through extensive library research, utilizing documentary techniques to analyze Abdurrauf's works and related scholarly materials, this study employs content analysis to elucidate his unique approach to dhikr. The findings reveal that Abdurrauf's dhikr concept offers a comprehensive Sufistic approach to psychotherapy, potentially serving as an alternative or complementary model in addressing current mental health challenges. Abdurrauf's conceptualization of dhikr as a means for spiritual fortification and psychological tranquility demonstrates remarkable parallels with contemporary meditation and relaxation therapy techniques. This research contributes to the growing body of literature on integrative psychotherapy, highlighting the relevance of traditional Sufistic practices in modern mental health interventions.

Abstract

The Tingkeban ceremony, as a cultural heritage of the Javanese community in Nganjuk, East Java, Indonesia, is faced with preservation challenges due to the influence of modernization and globalization. This research explores integrating local wisdom and Islamic values in maintaining and enriching the Tingkeban Ceremony. This study used a case study approach involving observation, interviews, and document analysis as data collection methods. This research reveals that the fusion of local wisdom and Islamic values in the Tingkeban Ceremony results in a harmonious and meaningful cultural tradition, reflecting their Javanese identity and Islamic faith. The local wisdom in the ceremony includes values such as cooperation, togetherness, and tolerance, while the integrated Islamic values include good manners, submission to Allah Swt. and cleanliness. Collaboration between various parties, including the community, religious leaders, and local government, is essential in ensuring the continuity of the Tingkeban Ceremony. Although the practice has evolved, the core values of the ceremony have been maintained and even strengthened. This study recommends efforts to increase the role and involvement of the community in preserving the Tingkeban Ceremony, develop educational programs that strengthen understanding of cultural values and Islamic faith, and promote this ceremony as an attractive cultural tourism destination in Nganjuk.
