Abstract

Vocabulary (mufradat) mastery is decisive in the success of foreign language learning. Mastering many vocabularies can improve students’ listening, speaking, reading, and writing skill. Various strategies have been applied to improve vocabulary mastery, but the results are not satisfactory. They were only able to achieve an average score of 42, far below the minimum criteria of mastery leaning, which is 75. It was because the students are less motivated to master it. Quantitative research with experimental design was carried out to test Kahoot! media, one of the game-based learning methods to improve students’ vocabulary learning outcomes in class X MAN 4 HST. The results showed that students' learning outcomes in the experimental class which used Kahoot! Gamification method is significantly higher than the control class, which used reading aloud and guessing the meaning method. The average learning outcomes in the experimental class were 28,269 points higher than that of the control class. The average value of the control class N-Gain is 25.95, which is categorized as ineffective. While the average N-Gain value of the experimental class is 74.31, categorized as quite effective category. The results indicated that Kahoot! implementation can increase the average score of students in learning mufradat to 85.

Abstract

This research explores the essential importance of pre-service early childhood education (ECE) teachers having a strong comprehension and proficiency in intercultural instruction. This research focuses on examining the practical experiences of 168 pre-service ECE teachers from four institutions in Kalimantan. The main objective is to investigate how these teachers negotiate the implementation of multicultural education throughout their field placements. The research utilizes a descriptive quantitative research methodology by conducting surveys. Pre-service ECE teachers utilize a variety of methods to introduce and commemorate cultural diversity among young learners. These activities encompass field visits, media exploration, cultural performances, and storytelling to cultivate comprehension and admiration for diverse cultures. Although a few individuals encounter difficulties when carrying out tasks, the majority enthusiastically adopt interactive methods to enhance their experiences and expand their viewpoints. The assessment of multicultural education entails the quantification of engagement, comprehension, and reactions, thereby emphasizing specific domains that require enhancement. Efforts to tackle negative attitudes focus on promoting inclusive dialogues and cooperative endeavours, while refraining from punitive actions. Engaging parents, cultivating intercultural comprehension, facilitating discourse, and commemorating festivals all contribute to establishing inclusive educational environments where diversity is respected and celebrated. This research emphasizes the crucial significance of a comprehensive approach to multicultural teaching for pre-service ECE teachers. It also highlights the necessity of ongoing evaluation to enable the continuous enhancement of practices in this important educational field.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the assessment and follow-up processes of Arab learning at Madrasah Aliyah using qualitative methods with a phenomenological approach. It involved 24 Arabic language teachers from Madrasah Aliyah in South Kalimantan. The findings indicated that Minimum Learning Mastery Standards (MLMS) were not adjusted to accommodate student characteristics, subject competencies, and educational unit conditions. Consequently, learning assessments became less credible, often serving merely to fulfil MLMS requirements. Both enrichment and remedial follow-up were perceived as formalities, lacking a basis in the analysis of student assessments, which undermined students' motivation to learn. Teachers encountered ethical dilemmas in assessment and decision-making processes, exacerbated by external pressures for students to meet MLMS benchmarks. The study emphasizes the importance of reducing external pressures in determining MLMS, enhancing teacher competence in adopting new assessment methods, and improving evaluation systems. These improvements are crucial for developing evidence-based structured enrichment and remedial programs

Abstract

This The main aim of this study is to analyze and clarify the implementation of the integration of science and religion, as suggested by Islamic scholars from Southeast Asia, in educational settings, particularly in State Islamic Universities and high schools in Indonesia. This research uses library research methodology to investigate the Comparative Typology of Integration of Science and Religion proposed by Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas and Amin Abdullah and its consequences for Islamic education. Al-Attas emphasized the importance of balancing spiritual and practical knowledge, recognizing both personal religious experience and objective religious elements. It supports the advancement of scientific knowledge through observation and experimentation and encourages the development of creative thinking and imagination in acquiring knowledge. On the other hand, Amin Abdullah advocates a relationship between science and religion that allows some information to flow, emphasizing the importance of mutual understanding and the integration of imaginative thinking into Islamic education to make it more relevant to today's times. To improve Islamic education, it is essential to achieve a balance between spiritual and practical knowledge, promote understanding of the simultaneous existence of subjective and objective aspects in religion, encourage scientific enlightenment and critical thinking, stimulate creativity and innovation in learning, facilitate viable connections between sciences and religion, recognizing the duality of objective and subjective components in religious studies, and integrating creative thinking to make religious education relevant and interesting in contemporary cultural contexts. These approaches can improve the quality of Islamic education and equip students to face the complexities of faith, science, and culture in the modern world.

Abstract

The debate over Sharia implementation in democratic countries remains a persistent issue, driven by political, economic, and social challenges that fuel the demand for alternative governance systems. This study examines the discourse through the perspectives of Abdullahi Ahmed An-Na’im, the concept of NKRI Bersyariah (Sharia-based Indonesia), and the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Civilization Fiqh. Using a library research method, primary and secondary sources were analyzed comparatively to identify key themes and concepts. An-Na’im advocates for a secular state that upholds pluralism and individual freedom, arguing that Sharia should not automatically serve as the basis for state law but must evolve within diverse social and political contexts. In contrast, NKRI Bersyariah is justified through arguments of alignment between Sharia and Pancasila, Indonesia’s Muslim majority, its utility in reducing crime and state expenses, and its role in safeguarding against extreme ideologies. NU’s Civilization Fiqh integrates Sharia with human rights, emphasizing contextually relevant Islamic laws while rejecting the formalization of Sharia as state law to maintain Indonesia’s pluralistic identity. Islamic political parties, including PKB, PKS, and PAN, adopt different approaches to the implementation of Islamic Sharia through legislation, prioritizing electoral gains while navigating Indonesia’s democratic principles, reflecting the complexities of reconciling religious values with a pluralistic and democratic society.
