Abstract

This research investigates the implementation of records management practices at five Islamic State Universities and Colleges (PTKINs) located in Central Java and Yogyakarta, utilizing a qualitative research approach. The examination reveals considerable diversity in records management practices across the five PTKINs. This variation can be attributed to disparities in the interpretation of policies by each institutional stakeholder regarding the significance of effective and systematic records management. The divergent policies in place also influence the support systems available. The primary differentiator among these institutions lies in their instruments, serving as the foundational framework for handling records. Following the record management model, specifically ANRI Head Regulation Number 24 of 2011, which provides guidelines for organizing records in higher education, two of the studied PTKINs, namely IAIN Kudus and UIN Walisongo, have fully implemented the four pillars outlined in the regulation. However, persisting challenges stem from a limited comprehension of records management among the human resources involved, emphasizing a critical aspect that requires focused attention.

Abstract

The existence of Balai Poestaka was aimed to facilitate the Dutch East Indies Government in monitoring the circulation of "appropriate reading materials for the people." Therefore, on September 14, 1908, the Commissie voor de Inlandsche School en Volkslectuur (Commission for Native Schools and Public Reading), which eventually changed its name to Balai Poestaka was formed. However, the efforts made by Balai Poestaka had at least some impact on the development of literacy in various communities, including the Palembang Residency. This research aims to understand the initiatives undertaken by Balai Poestaka in advancing literacy in the Palembang Residency community. The study employs historical research methods, including heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography. The study reveals that at least three efforts were made by Balai Poestaka to enhance community literacy. First, the establishment of Taman Poestaka, a library dedicated to the natives, opened in native schools under the supervision of teachers. Second, the initiation of Depot van Leermiddelen and small trucks serving as mobile bookstores reached villages in Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi, and Kalimantan. Third, at least three times a year, Balai Poestaka distributed 100,000 catalogs, each consisting of 32 pages, to promote its published books. Additionally, Balai Poestaka sold its books at affordable prices to make them accessible to the purchasing power of the community.

Abstract

The emergence of institutional repositories (IRs) is seen as a new scholarly publishing model. This study aims to understand the adoption of technology from the perspective of information behavior by exploring users' characteristics of information need, awareness, and need of IRs concerning the use of IRs. Three hundred university lecturers from six state Islamic universities were observed to obtain their perception of the need for IRs using a questionnaire survey. Partial least square structural equation modeling was used for data analysis. The analyses of measurement and structural models were conducted to validate the relationship between the observed variables. The study found that the information-seeking behavior model has partially explained the use of repositories among university scholars by 53,5%. The results mean that other factors influence the use of IRs that are not examined by this research.

Abstract

In the pursuit of enhancing awareness and preparedness for territorial waters, Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) is closely associated with the role of archives in upholding state sovereignty. Archives function as documentation of events and activities within an area, serving as tangible evidence of control over that region. This paper explores the connection between MDA and archives in the context of sovereignty, posing a central question: How does the role of archives contribute to maintaining sovereignty within the MDA framework? Utilizing qualitative research methods and a literature study, the paper delves into the actors responsible for creating agency, the categories, and the functions of archives in upholding sovereignty within the MDA concept. Primary sources include literature on MDA and regulations governing archives, with data analysis conducted through the stages of a literature study. The MDA concept operates as a unified system involving various actors in a given area, with information at its core – information preserved in archives. Archives within the MDA concept emerge as an alternative means of identifying actors and documenting proof of state territorial sovereignty. In the maritime field, at least 13 agencies or actors contribute to the production of archives. These accumulated archives are considered treasures, aligning with the provisions of Law Number 43 of 2009 regarding archives, labeled as guarded records. The triad of MDA, archives, and sovereignty establishes a significant link in safeguarding Indonesia's territorial integrity. MDA archives play dual roles in sovereignty: facilitating effective occupation and soft diplomacy. They serve as tangible evidence of ownership, control, and management of maritime areas, reaffirming Indonesia's territorial sovereignty.

Abstract

The growing usage of digital technologies raised concerns regarding the possible adverse effects of digital amnesia, in which people forget readily available knowledge saved in their gadgets. This study investigated the effects of digital amnesia on memory retention and knowledge construction through experiment studies. The tasks given to the participants required either digital devices or more conventional memory storage and retrieval methods. Memory performance and knowledge construction were assessed through various tests and assessments. The findings indicated that excessive reliance on digital devices for information storage led to digital amnesia. Participants who used digital tools exhibited lower memory retention and shallower information processing compared to those employing traditional memory strategies. The results highlighted the negative implications of digital amnesia for memory retention and knowledge construction. Striking a balance between reliance on digital tools and active engagement in memory processes was crucial. Actively encoding and retrieving information can mitigate risks associated with shallow processing and information overload.

Abstract

The National Research and Innovation Agency of Indonesia (BRIN) is aware of the changes in the information/reference-seeking behavior of BRIN researchers, where many refer to electronic journals as references for their scientific work. Therefore, BRIN has implemented a new policy in procuring its library collections, namely by no longer carrying out procurement in printed form but rather digital/electronic. This research aims to determine the readiness of the BRIN library in e-resource services so that it can be used as material for evaluation and improvement of the BRIN library. This research method uses a qualitative approach with a case study type. Data collection was carried out using semi-structured interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis uses the Strauss and Corbin analysis models, starting from open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. Triangulation of sources and techniques is used to maintain the validity of the data provided. The results of this research can be used as a reference and framework model that can be applied in libraries to manage their e-resources well. Future research can test whether this model can effectively manage e-resources.

Abstract

The Tridaya Eka Dharma Museum commonly known as the Struggle Museum saves many weapons from the soldiers of the Emergency Government of the Republic of Indonesia (PDRI) and the Revolutionary Government of the Republic of Indonesia (PRRI). Besides that, the museum also displays weapons captured from the war in East Timor. The Tridaya Eka Dharma Museum located in Bukitinggi City. Bukittinggi was chosen as the location for the museum because this city was once the capital of Sumatra province and the capital of the Republic of Indonesia during the PDRI era. Therefore, Bukittinggi has a rich history in Indonesia's struggle for independence, and this museum plays an important role in preserving and commemorating that history. This research was carried out considering that the function of museums for knowledge requires action so that they are not neglected and abandoned by the next generation. Referring to the condition of the younger generation called as Gen Z generation who are more dependent on sources of information via gadgets and the internet, this research needs to be carried out, name to provide an overview of the condition that museums belong to all generations, lest the museum ecosystem itself stops in one generation. This is creating a huge gap between one generation to the next generation. It is hoped that this research will be able to contribute to and maximize the function of museums which act as institutions that protect, develop, utilize collections, and communicate them to the public. The purpose of this research is to find out the collection of objects in the Tridaya Eka Dharma Museum and explain the use of the Tridaya Eka Dharma Museum in learning the History of Indonesian Independence. The research method that will be used as a source of historical learning is the descriptive method.
