Abstract

. This study examines the dynamics of child sexual exploitation in Pattaya and analyze ECPAT’s role in addressing sexual exploitation of children in travel and tourism (SECTT) and online child sexual exploitation (OCSE). The research employed a qualitative approach, with data collected through literature review from academic journals, books, organizational reports, and relevant online sources. The analysis was conducted through a Pluralist perspective and Civil Society Organization (CSO) theory. The results indicate that ECPAT plays a role in preventing child sexual exploitation through monitoring, advocacy, capacity building, and catalyzing change. Nevertheless, the effectiveness of ECPAT’s role in Pattaya is still affected by various structural barriers, such as suboptimal coordination between legal instituins, complex reporting procedures, and persistent social stigma that discourages disclosure. Abstract

This study examines the interests of Indonesia and Singapore in the 2022 Extradition Treaty through the treaty’s provisions and the ratification process, particularly regarding law enforcement efforts and the repatriation of individuals convicted of corruption. After facing setbacks since 2007, the treaty was finally concluded on January 25, 2022, and ratified by Indonesia through Law No. 5 of 2023 and by Singapore through its domestic mechanisms. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method using literature review techniques and is analyzed through a two-level games perspective to examine the interplay between international negotiations and the domestic dynamics of both nations. The results of the study indicate that this agreement incorporates the principle of double criminality, limited retroactive provisions, and a more structured extradition mechanism. The differences in the legal systems, Indonesia’s civil law system and Singapore’s common law system influenced the ratification process. But did not hinder the implementation of the agreement rather they reflect the alignment of the two countries’ interests in reaching an agreement. Abstract

This study examines the military coup that took place in Myanmar in February 2021 triggered a multidimensional humanitarian crisis characterized by escalating internal armed conflict, widespread human rights violations, mass displacement, and the collapse of basic public services. Within the context of Southeast Asia, this crisis has become a critical test for ASEAN as a regional organization that traditionally upholds the principles of non-interference and state sovereignty. This study aims to analyze the role of the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre) in responding to the humanitarian crisis in Myanmar during the post-coup period from 2021 to 2024. This research employs a qualitative approach using a literature review method, drawing on official ASEAN and AHA Centre reports, documents from international organizations, academic journals, theses, dissertations, and reputable media sources. The analytical framework of this study is grounded in constructivism, system-level analysis, and the concept of human security. Constructivism is utilized to examine how ASEAN norms, particularly the ASEAN Way with its emphasis on non-interference and consensus, shape and constrain the actions of the AHA Centre in responding to the Myanmar crisis. The system-level analysis explains how fragmentation within the global humanitarian governance regime and divergent interests among international actors affect ASEAN’s and AHA Centre’s operational space. Meanwhile, the human security perspective is applied to assess the extent to which AHA Centre’s response addresses concrete threats to human safety, including violence, food insecurity, displacement, and limited access to healthcare. The findings indicate that the AHA Centre has played a significant role as a humanitarian facilitator in Myanmar through logistical coordination, emergency aid distribution, and cooperation with ASEAN member states’ National Disaster Management Organisations (NDMOs). However, the effectiveness of these efforts remains severely constrained by structural, normative, and political factors. The dominance of the sovereignty principle and the AHA Centre’s reliance on the consent of Myanmar’s military junta have limited the reach of humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable populations. This study concludes that while the AHA Centre contributes to maintaining ASEAN’s humanitarian presence in Myanmar, institutional reforms within ASEAN and a stronger human security-oriented approach are essential to enhance the effectiveness of future humanitarian responses. Abstract

This study analyzes the implementation of Extinction Rebellion (XR) global values by XR Riau in building a local climate movement amid environmental crises in Riau Province. The focus is on three key values: shared vision of change, mission on what is necessary, and regenerative culture. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach through interviews and literature review. The results show that XR Riau implements these values through public education, symbolic nonviolent actions, and the development of collective awareness. These values shape movement direction, issue prioritization, and internal sustainability. However, challenges remain, including low public awareness, limited capacity, and safety concerns. Abstract

A terminal is a vital facility or infrastructure for managing land transportation in a region, ensuring that land transportation flows in an orderly manner. In accordance with Law No. 22 of 2009 on traffic and road transportation regulations, Rokan Hilir Regency Regulation No. 17 of 2011 sets forth procedures and operational and management standards for terminals. All regulatory frameworks issued by the central and local governments—as part of efforts to manage terminals across all regions, including Rokan Hilir Regency—can be effectively implemented. The objective of this study is to analyze the management of the Sekapur Sirih terminal facility by the Regional Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) in Bagansiapiapi, Rokan Hilir Regency. This study employs a descriptive qualitative research approach, utilizing interviews, documentation, and observation as data collection methods. The results indicate that the management of the Sekapur Sirih Terminal in Bagansiapiapi, Rokan Hilir Regency, has not been optimized. In terms of terminal planning activities, most aspects have not been implemented effectively. There are several planning aspects, such as the arrangement of passenger and cargo facilities, the display of route and fare schedules, and the scheduling of terminal staff; however, these aspects are also not functioning optimally. In terms of implementation, nearly all related activities are also not functioning well. Out of 9 implementation aspects, only the arrangement of waiting areas and the flow of public vehicles at the terminal is still operational; however, these areas are not utilized in accordance with standard regulations. Regarding supervision, generally, all supervision aspects stipulated in the Regent’s Regulation (Perbup) are also not functioning effectively. Abstract

This research analyzes the national interests underpinning Indonesia's decision to file a lawsuit against the European Union (EU) at the World Trade Organization (WTO) through dispute DS593. The lawsuit was a response to the EU's Renewable Energy Directive II (RED II) policy, which classifies palm oil as a high-risk crop (High ILUC-Risk) and mandates a gradual phase-out until 2030. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical method. Data collection techniques were conducted through literature reviews and document analysis, encompassing the RED II policy and the DS593 dispute filings. The research utilizes the perspective of Institutional Liberalism, the Nation-State Level of Analysis, and Donald E. Nuechterlein’s Concept of National Interest to analyze the dimensions of the interests pursued by Indonesia. The results indicate that the RED II policy is a form of EU "green protectionism" stemming from a lack of competitiveness in land efficiency. Indonesia's lawsuit was driven by economic interests to mitigate foreign exchange losses of USD 1.59 billion per year, protect the welfare of smallholders due to an export decline of up to 66.3 percent, and maintain legitimacy. Furthermore, there is a world order interest to combat discriminatory trade practices. This litigation effort successfully proved that the EU's procedures violated the TBT Agreement and GATT 1994, leading to an agreement by the European Union to revise its regulations in February 2026. Abstract

High-technology firms such as Boeing strategically managed their operations to sustain dominance within a competitive global oligopolistic market. The emergence of Airbus in 1970 gradually weakened Boeing’s long-standing dominance, which had been perceived as monopolistic since 1917. Both companies operate in the aerospace and civil aviation industry and dominated the global market, competing most intensely in the narrowbody commercial aircraft segment. Against this backdrop, this study examined Boeing’s strategic responses to trade competition, focusing on the rivalry between the B737 MAX and Airbus’s A320neo in the global civil aviation market. This study adopted a qualitative case study approach and applied Michael Porter’s Competitive Advantage theory, particularly the differentiation-based generic strategy. The analysis was structured into three phases: differentiation as a competitive response, the risk of being stuck in the middle, and re-differentiation. Data were collected from secondary sources, including official reports from Boeing and Airbus, statements issued by Boeing’s management, and publications from regulatory and international institutions such as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), International Civil Aviation Organization (IATA), and World Trade Organization (WTO). The findings revealed a substantial decline in Boeing’s competitive advantage following the crashes of Lion Air Flight 610 (2018) and Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 (2019), both involving the B737 MAX. Boeing responded by pursuing a differentiation strategy through technological upgrades and quality improvements to the B737 MAX, including MCAS modifications and the installation of dual AOA sensors; enhanced regulatory compliance through the re-certification of the B737 MAX 7 to MAX 10 variants; reputation recovery via the Strengthening Safety and Quality Plan; and supply chain recovery by shifting from mass production to phased production, with output increasing from 38 to 42 aircraft by October 2025.
