Abstract

ABSTRACT Stichopus vastusis one type of sea cucumber that hasn’t been optimally utilized, therefore this study was aimed to determine the proximate values and amino acids profile of sea cucumber (Stichopus vastus) flour with different heating treatments. The method used in this study was the experimental method, with a different processed of heating (boiled and steamed). The results showed that the sea cucumber flour produced by boiling process had a water, ash, fat, protein and carbohydrate content was 11.53%, 10.76%, 2.22%, 57.86%, and 14.00%, respectively. Meanwhile the sea cucumber flour produced by steaming process was 11.69%, 13.79%, 2.17%, 61.49% and 14.49%, respectively.Total amino acids in sea cucumber flour with boiling and steaming process were 50.34% and 52.95%, respectively, with the highest amino acid content of each treatment was glycine and the lowest content of amino acid was methionine. Keywords: amino acid, Stichopus vastus, sea cucumber flour, heating

Abstract

Abstract             Sail river has been polluted by heavy metals and those affects the organs of Notopterusnotopterus. To understand the content of Fe and Cu in the gills, muscles, and gonad of the fish, a study has been conducted on December 2017 to January 2018. Samplings were conducted two times, once/month, in the downstream of the river. Heavy metals content were analysedusing AAS.Results shown that the average concentration of Fe in gills, muscles and gonads were 2.123, 1.970 dan 1.095mg/kg, while those of the Cu were1.620, 1,585 dan 0,330mg/kg respectively.Fe and Cu concentration in the fish from the downstream of the Sail River were relativy high Keywords:iron, copper, aquatic organisms, fish organ

Abstract

Abstract            There are several human activities such astourism and daily activities are conducted around the Tajwid Lake and thus the pollutant originated from those activities may enter the water and affects the trophic state of the lake. Trophic Index (TRIX) can be used to determine the trophic state of waters based on chemical and biological parameters. To understand the trophic state of the Tajwid Lake waters based on Vollenweider’s Trophic Index (TRIX), a research has been conducted in March-April 2018. There were three sampling points, namely in the inlet, in the middle of the lake, and in the end of the lake. In each sampling point, water was sampled from the surface (0.5 m) and 2 secchi depth (1.1 m). Sampling were conducted 3 times, once/week.Water quality parameters measured were DIN, total phosphorus, dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll-a, transparency, temperature, and pH. Result shown that the transparency was 0.47 - 0.55 m, temperature was 29.3 - 30.7 °C, pH was 5, DIN was 0.17 - 0.23 mg/L, total phosphorus was 0.32 - 0.62 mg/L, oxygen saturation was 59.37 - 82.77 % and chlorophyll-awas 6.03 - 10.71 µg/L.Trophic Index(TRIX) value of the Tajwid Lake was 4.39 - 5.49, and it indicates that the Tajwid Lake was eutrophic.  Keywords : Kampar River, Vollenweider’s Trophic Index, Oxbow Lake, Eutrophic

Abstract

AbstractThere are several human activities such as floating cages, tourism and daily activities are conducted around the Bandar Kayangan Lembah Sari Reservoir and thus the remains of pollutant may enter to the water and affects the trophic state in the reservoir. Trophic Index (TRIX) can be used to determine the trophic state of waters based on chemical and biological parameters. To understand the trophic state of the Bandar Kayangan Lembah Sari Reservoir’s waters based on Vollenweider’s Trophic Index (TRIX), a research has been conducted in March - April 2018. There were four sampling stations, namely station 1 (in the riverine zone of the Ambang River), station 2 (in the riverine zone of the Merbau River), station 3 (in the transition of the reservoir) and station 4 (in the lacustrine of the reservoir). In each station there were three sampling points, in the surface, in the middle of water column, and in the base of water. Sampling were conducted 3 times, once/week. Water quality parameters measured were DIN, total phosphorus, dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll-a, transparency, temperature and pH. Results shown that the transparency was 65.17 - 74.33 cm, temperature 27.33 - 29.33 0C, pH 5, total phosphorus 0.20 - 0.54 mg/L, DIN  0.09 - 0.18 mg/L, chlorophyll-a13.76 - 19.56µg/L, oxygen saturation 62.37 - 100.48%. Trophic Index (TRIX) value of the Bandar Kayangan Lembah Sari Reservoir was 3.79 - 6.45, and it indicates that the Bandar Kayangan water is in mesotrophic to hypereutrophic. Keywords : Ambang River, Merbau River, Water Quality, Vollenweider’sTrophic Index

Abstract

AbstractThis study aimed to compare the quality of katsuobushi skipjack processed by using hot smoking and cold smoking methodsin katsuobushiprocessing. The method used in the research was comparative experimental method to compare the application of method of hot smokingin temperature of 80-1000C until the decrease of fish weight ≤ 30% and cold smokingin temperature of 40-500C until the decrease of fish weight ≤ 30%. The data obtained was analyzed by using the T-test.The results showed thatkatsuobushi produced by cold smokingprocess had higher values rather than those produced by hot smoking and showing significantly different value in aroma, texture, taste, moisture content, phenol content and pH, butnot significantlydifferent in appearance and ash content. The total number of bacteria colonies on the katsuobushi produced by applying hot smoking method was 4,1 x 103cfu/g and in that applying cold smoking was 3,7 x 103cfu/g. Abstract

AbstractActivities in the Sungai Duku port was causing oil pollutionwhich then trigger gene mutation in specific bacteria.  The bacteria may produce biosurfactants for degrading the oil. A study aims to obtain the biosurfactantproducingbacteria from oil polluted sludge was conducted fromJune to July 2018. Thesludge sample was taken to laboratoryand 2 ml of the sample was mixed with Enrichment media to grow up the bacteria. The bacteria were isolated and purified using Blood Agar and MacConkey media. The purified bacteria were then morphologically studied and biochemicallytested. Morphological and biochemical characteristics shown that there were 2 bacteria species, namely Proteus sp and Enterobacter sp.Emulsification Index of the Proteus sp was 42.5% and  Enterobacter sp was 50%, indicating that those bacteria were potencial for producing biosurfactant.Keywords : Enterobactersp, Proteus sp, Biodegradationt, Oil pollutant, Emulsification Index

Abstract

ABSTRACT            Barbodes schawanefeldii was commonly inhabit the Indragiri River. A research aims to understand the population of B. schawanefeldii in that river was conducted in July 2018. Fish was sampled everyday for 10 days, using gill nets and cast net. The population estimation was analyzed using a Leslie Method. Results shown that the initial population (No) of the fish was 446 kg and the final population (Nt)   was 431 kg. The maximum value that can be exploited was 223 kg and the utilization rate was 7%.  The water quality parameter shown that temperature 27-29 °C, current speed 25.9-28.5 cm/s, and depth 3.55-3.87 m. Data on water quality parameters indicate that water quality in the Indragiri River is able to support the life of   B. schawanefeldii . Keywords : Leslie method, Maximum value, Utilization rate, Exploitation rate

Abstract

ABSTRACT             Thisresearch was conducted on 24 October until 02 December 2018 at Aquaculture Technology Laboratory of Fisheries and Marine, University Riau, Pekanbaru. The purpose of this experiment was to investigate the effect of container for behaviour and colour quality of comet fish (Carassius  auratus). The research method use in this study was an experimental method and completely randomized design with five treatments and three replication. The treatments in this study were (P0) white container, (P1) black container, (P2) blue container, (P3) yellow container, (P4)combination container. Colour The result show that behaviour in containers that are bright fish are more active swimming in groups compared to dark colors fish. The result shownP3 (yellow container) that is 8,20 and P2 (blue container) is 5,67.The absolute best weight growth in P2(blue container) 2,71 g, absolute long growth in treatment in P3(yellow container) 2,24 cm and the best survival treatments have P0, P2 dan P3 especially 100%. Keywords:Behaviour, color quality,comet fish.

Abstract

Abstract Macrobrachiummammilodactyluswas a type of freshwater shrimp that inhabits swamp area around the Riau Main Stadium. The population of shrimp in the swamp was relatively high and it indicatesthat the reproduction of the shrimp was succeed.This research aims to understandthe reproductive biological aspectsof the shrimp and it was conducted in March-April 2018.Sampling were conducted 4 times, once/week.Totally 100 shrimps (20 males and 80 females) were caught, 26.71-44.67mm TL and 0.2052-0.814gr BW.Male and female sex ratio is 1:4. In each sampling time there were shrimps with 2nd, 3rd, 4th maturity levels. Gonad Somatic Index (GSI) of the male was ranged from 0.48% -3.56% and the female was ranged from 0.02-9.30%. Fecunditywas around 137-208 eggs / shrimp and the egg diameter was 0.6-0.8 mm.There were 52 ovigerous females that carried 67-218 eggs / female.The diameter of the abdomen’s attached eggs range from 0.6-0.9 mm, and the embryos were in 1st stage (eyeless embryos) and 2nd stage (embryos with developing eyes).In the ovigerous females, there were several individuals that have developing eggs inside their ovary (in the 2nd and 3rd maturity levels).This fact indicates that M. mammilodactylusisa partial spawner. Keyword : Freshwater Shrimp, Sex Ratio, GSI, Maturity Level, ovigerous females

Abstract

AbstractCatfish is a type of freshwater catfish that lives in river waters. The information about on the microbial existence, inculding the Total Plate Count (TPC) of microbia, Coliform, Escherichia coli, and Salmonella sp. in the fish cultivated in a cage in the River in Kampar have not discovered yet. This research was aimed to evaluate the microbiological quality of catfish cultivated in cages in the River of Kampar, Riau. The results showed that the microbiology quality of the fish, collected from 3 different sampling stations, have been evaluated that the samples collected from fish-cages in Air Tiris (K1) station, the number of total bacteria (TPC) counted was 4.4 x 103 Cfu/g, the number of Coliform bacteria was8.87 MPN/g, the number of Escherichia coli bacteria was negative, the number of Salmonella sp. Was negative. The samples collected from fish-cage in  Teratak (K2) station was counted that the number of total bacteria (TPC) was 3.3 x 103 Cfu/g, the number of Coliform bacteria was6.87 MPN/g, the number ofEscherichia coli bacterial was negative, and the number of Salmonella sp. was negative. The samples collected from fish-cage in Buluh (K3) station was counted that the number of total bacteria (TPC) was 4.3 x 103 Cfu/g, the number of Coliform bacteria was 7.93 MPN/g, the number of Escherichia coli bacteria was negative, and the number of Salmonella sp. was also negative. It can be concluded that the highest microbiological quality was found in cage-cultivatesd catfish in Teratak Buluh. Keywords: bacteria, coliform, hemibagrus, total plate count
