Abstract

Abstract: This research intends to find out whether or not there is a correlation between students’ subject-verb agreement mastery and their writing ability of descriptive texts at SMAN 2 Tapung. There were 56 tenth grade students of social science major chosen as samples. The instruments were subject-verb agreement test and writing descriptive text test. The subject-verb agreement test was used to assess the students’ mastery of subject-verb agreement. The writing descriptive text test was used to assess descriptive text writing ability. The data were obtained by calculating the subject-verb agreement test and writing descriptive text test results. The calculation was done using SPSS Statistics 25. Based on the calculation, it was found that the students’ subject-verb agreement mastery and their descriptive text writing ability are classified into sufficient category. Besides, the value of correlation coefficient obtained was 0.793 which means that there is a correlation between students’ subject-verb agreement mastery and their writing ability of descriptive texts. The correlation is categorized into high correlation since the value of correlation coefficient obtained is 0.793 which is in the range of 0.70 - 0.90. According to determination analysis, subject-verb agreement mastery had a 62.9% influence on the descriptive text writing ability. From the research findings, it is recommended that the English teacher provide more exercises and strategies to help students grasp the rules of subject-verb agreement easily and the students do and practice more exercises on subject-verb agreement. Further, other researchers conduct further research on the correlation between other language skills and language aspects on different sample size and location were also recommended.Key Words: Correlation, Subject-Verb Agreement Mastery, Writing Ability of Descriptive Text

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this quantitative research was to find out the vocabulary mastery of the third year students of SMPN 40 Pekanbaru. The study sample was 35 students. The result of data analysis showed that multiple-choice test 1 was 37.6 and categorized into “very poor level” and test 2 was 57.8 and categorized into “average level”. The conclusion concerning the category classification is “very poor to average “which mean that vocabulary mastery of the third year students of SMPN 40 Pekanbaru was categorized into “low average level” for achievement in English lesson. The writer suggests that teachers are recommended to improve students' vocabulary by presenting interesting materials, and then give them homework, and exercises at school.Key Words: Vocabulary, Mastery, Narrative Text

Abstract

Abstract : The purpose of this study is to analyze the need to develop a teaching materialneeded in learning, namely e-module based problem solving on projectile motion materialfor class X SMA/MA. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method that is orientedtowards the development of a product. The subjects in this study were students of class XlSMA in the city of Pekanbaru. The data collection instrument uses a questionnaire viaGoogle Form. Then the needs analysis questionnaire filled by respondents as many as 100students, it was found that students were generally passive during the learning process.Students enjoy participating in learning that involves them actively, such as conductingexperiments. Students feel uninterested in learning if they only listen to the teacher'sexplanation, without involving their active participation. Students also feel happy if thereare learning resources that can utilize Android or IT so that the learning materials areinteractive. Then students also expect a learning process that makes them active inparticipating in learning activities. Meanwhile, for material that is considered difficult bystudents in the classroom X is parabolic motion material. The results of the needs analysisshow that it is necessary to develop problem solving based e-module teaching materialson material Projectile motion.Keywords : Needs Analysis, E-Module, Problem Solving, Projectile Motion

Abstract

Abstract: Reading is an ability that enables people to acquire information while improving their fluency, vocabulary, and general knowledge. Nonetheless, reading for academic purposes is harder than readers imagine. In the development of reading skills, reading attitude was considered to influence student achievement. This research aims to investigate students' attitudes toward reading English. The research population was the 2018 and 2019 batches of English Department students at FKIP Universitas Riau, with a total sample of 70 students. This research took a quantitative approach, and the research design was a survey design (descriptive analysis). The instrument used to gain the data was an ASRA (Adult Survey of Reading Attitude) questionnaire from Smith (1991), which consisted of 29 items divided into 3 aspects (activity of reading, enjoyment of reading, and anxiety-difficulty). For data analysis, Microsoft Excel and SPSS version 23 were used. The findings revealed that students’ attitudes toward reading were positive, with an average score of 2.60 (SD = 0.83) for reading activity, 2.87 (SD = 0.84) for reading enjoyment, and 2.69 (SD = 0.88) for anxiety-difficulty. The conclusion is that students have a positive attitude toward English reading but still require development in reading activities.Key Words: Attitude, Reading, Reading Attitude, Survey

Abstract

Abstract: In the game of football, variations and combinations are needed, one of which is the ability to dribble. This is in line with the player/testee's ability to dribble the ball at SSB Laskar Belia, Siak District, which shows that there are still deficiencies/errors in his dribbling technique. So that it will affect the ability to dribble for SSB Laskar Belia players. Therefore in this study the researchers used the Dribble drill training model as an improvement to improve the ability of players/testees to dribble the ball, in order to achieve the desired goals for SSB Laskar Belia players or coaches. This study aims to determine the effect of Dribble drill training on Dribbling skills in the SSB Laskar Muda team in Siak District, Siak Regency. The ability to dribble using dribble drills during the pretest and postest was good. Where the results of this study have also shown that there is an increase in dribbling ball skills on the SSB Laskar Muda team after carrying out Dribble drill exercises. This can also be seen from the average players and instrument norms, where the average increases by 1.10 seconds from the whole implementation. Meanwhile, from the test norm category, it can be seen that from good to very good. this is influenced by several factors including because they have long joined SSB Laskar Belia, so that their physical and endurance have formed by themselves, coupled with this dribble drill training.Keywords: Dribble Drill, Dribbling, Football

Abstract

Abstract: In this modern era, technology has the potential to make life easier and more efficient, especially in education. Where technology is able to solve learning problems. Teachers are encouraged to use technology as a tool or medium to boost student excitement for learning English, especially vocabulary, because there are so many students who are not interested in studying. The purpose of this study is to ascertain whether the Duolingo app affects students' vocabulary mastery. This research was carried out using a quasi-experimental design. There were 68 students in the sample for this study. 34 students made up class XI IPA 4 (the experiment class), and 34 students made up class XI IPA 3 (the control class). This study was conducted in SMA Negeri 1 Tapung Hulu. The post-test was administered following the use of the treatment for 4 meetings while utilizing the Duolingo app as a supplemental tool for learning English. The data was examined using the t-test. The t-count value was 12.57 and the t-table value was 1.99 according to the study's findings. This demonstrates the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha) that the Duolingo application has a significant impact on the vocabulary mastery of SMA Negeri 1 Tapung Hulu students in the 11th grade.Key Words: Vocabulary Mastery, Duolingo Application, Senior High School Students.

Abstract: This research is a correlation study between Japanese language extracurricular activities (X) and a lot of learning (Y) using quantitative descriptive analysis techniques. In this study, there was a significant influence on Japanese language extracurricular activities on students' interest in learning Japanese in class. Where students who take part in Japanese language extracurriculars have a positive attitude during the learning process, such as being able to answer questions from the teacher, do assignments and are always present when learning Japanese in class.Key Words: Influence, Japanese language extracurriculars, interest in learning

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to find out the correlation between reading comprehension and ability in writing recount text of the second year students of SMP YLPI Perhentian Marpoyan Pekanbaru. The samples of the research were 46 second year students of SMP YLPI Perhentian Marpoyan Pekanbaru. There were a reading comprehension test consisted of 30 questions about recount text and writing a recount text test as the instruments of this research. The time allocation was 60 minutes for the entire test. The data were obtained by students’ scores of reading comprehension test and writing test. The data for writing test were graded by three raters by using an analytical scoring system. The finding shows that the students had a fair level ability in both reading and writing. To see the correlation between the two variables, the primary data were analysed and correlated by using the Product Pearson Product Moment Correlation on SPSS 26.0 Program. Based on findings, the correlation between students’ reading comprehension (X) and their ability in writing (Y), the correlation coefficient (rxy) was 0.642 and it was categorized as a fair correlation. It could be concluded that there was a significant correlation between reading comprehension and ability in writing. It is suggested for teachers to help students use English verb tenses appropriately, teachers are also expected to clearly show how each tense is formed. It is also suggested that future research could further examine the relationship between other English skills.Key Words: Correlation, Reading Comprehension, Writing Ability, Recount Texts

Abstract

Abstract: This research contains about the influence of mastery of grammar on the ability to write essays. The problem that will be discussed in this study is the effect of mastery of grammar on the ability to write essays. The purpose of this research is to explain the influence of mastery of grammar on the ability to write essays. The method used in this study is a quantitative descriptive method. The samples used in this study were 2020 Batch students, totaling 27 people and the data obtained were 20 students.Data analysis techniques are described using descriptive statistical analysis, correlation analysisProduct Moment Pearson and simple linear regression analysis to answer the problems and hypotheses. Abstract: ThisThis study discusses baka utterances by the main character of one piece anime episode 1 – 10, the formulation of the problem in this study is how to analyze speech Baka By 10 Main Characters of One Piece Anime Episode 1 – 10. Conversational sentences in the data This research will be analyzed based on the function which is divided into two independent functions (Stand Alone) consisting of Explosive Interjections, oaths, curses, affirmations and contradictions,unfriendly suggestions, ritual insults, nicknames. The slot filler function consists of Adjective Enhancers, Adjectives of Dislike, stress, modal adverbial, use anaphoric epithets and supporting nouns. The data obtained in this study using Ljung's theory (2011) to find out the function of the word baka.Key Words: Baka's Story, Anime One piece , Ljung (2011)
