Abstract

This article describes the clash of west and east civilizations from the perspective of the Qur’an interpretation. As is well known that the Qur’an reveals a clash of civilizations between the West which is represented by the Roman and the east are Persian. The clash occurred for many years. This war began with the triumph of Persians, the Qur’an clearly interpreted that nine years later the Roman defeat the Persian. Roman Empire which is meant by ar-Rum is the Kingdom of Eastern Roman centered in Konstantinopel, not the Western Roman kingdom centered in Rome. The West Roman kingdom, before the events, recounted in this verse occurs has collapsed in 476 CE. The Romans are Christians (people of the scripture), and the Persians religion Majusi (idolaters).

Abstract

This paper elaborates on the roots of textual indoctrination in religious violence. This study is important to redefine the concept of religious nation-state in order to avoid the distortion of religious texts’ understanding that can lead to religious violence. This research uses a literature approach. The results of this study state that 1) religious violence is divided into three, namely: internal violence of religious communities, violence between religions and forces outside of religion such as power regimes, and violence between religious communities, 2) Interpretation of religious texts are often obscured by people who want to use it as a tool to legalize violent acts. The deconstruction of the verses of the Quran against the justification of radicalism is often associated with verses describing warfare, identified with the meaning of jihad in the Way of Allah, which is contained in At-Taubat verse: 24, Al-Hajj verse: 78, Al-Mumtahanah verse: 1, Al-Ankabut verse: 6. Whereas in term of warfare stated in the Al-Baqarah verse: 190, it is clear that the only war that is permitted is only for the purpose of defense, not for offense so let alone to take innocent victims, 3) Interpretation of the meaning of truth often triggers the justification of religious violence. This is because every religion has its own scriptural doctrines which lead their believers into the belief that their religion is the most correct one. However, we must not force other believers into believing what we believe as the truth.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze curriculum implementation design and Islamic Education learning, a variety of curriculum integration and Islamic Education  learning, and pesantren-based madrasah model that is appropriate with National Education Standard and users’ expectations. This research was a qualitative study with a naturalistic paradigm which philosophically referred to phenomenological post-positivism and used social action models. This research was conducted in Kudus Regency with subjects related to institutional reality, curriculum implementation, learning and human resources of Madrasah Aliyah (MA) or Islamic Senior High Schools. The results showed that pesantren or Islamic boarding school is a model of MA management which madrasah and pesantren management are operationally managed in one management system. It means that MA is not only physically located in pesantren, but MA and pesantren are in an integrated organizational and management structure. The purpose of this management system unification is that all educational processes are in a system that allows all teachers and students activities in the same program package. It will ultimately create a holistic education process that produce the quality education output and outcome. Thus, the willingness to make pesantren as an Islamic education curriculum basis is based on the need to maximize the true Islamic education curriculum.

Abstract

The diversity of ethnicities, races, and religions is a reality in the life of the nation and state, although it is undeniable that there is a potential for conflict. This study aimed to explain the pattern of religious harmony in West Sumatra within the framework of regional autonomy which is adopted from the cultural system and local wisdom. This study used a phenomenological approach to provide accurate conditions of multi-ethnic, cultural, and religious communities. The results showed that the pattern of religious harmony through the resolution of religious conflicts in several regions in West Sumatra was carried out through the alignment of regional autonomy with local customs and culture. Forms of alignment include alignment of school uniforms, equal distribution of sacrificial meat, the presence of baralek, the tradition of manyiriah, interfaith graves between Muslims and Christians, and the application of customary philosophies. This study contributes to the theory of a cultural approach based on local wisdom in resolving religious conflicts and strengthening social integration of the community.
