Abstract

Indonesia, a developing country rich in mineral resources, is pursuing a strategic nickel downstream industry policy to enhance its economy. This involves controlling nickel ore exports and promoting the establishment of smelters for processing. The research examines the implementation of this policy and its impact on Indonesia's economic relations with China. The study employs qualitative methods and applies Kishan S. Rana's economic diplomacy phases: Economic Salesmanship, Economic Networking, Image Building/Nation Branding, and Management Regulation & Resources. The enactment of Mineral and Coal Laws in 2014 and 2020 has influenced Indonesia's economic diplomacy with China. Key findings include Indonesia's shift from mining to smelter investment focus, exporting higher value-added nickel products, prioritizing EV battery industry development, and intensifying economic diplomacy efforts through investment and trade promotions. Special cluster units are playing an increasing role in this strategy.

Abstract

Abstract

This research discusses Australia's securitization process towards refugees and asylum seekers in 2021-2023 with the aim of understanding Australia's views and decisions in securitizing issues related to refugees and asylum seekers. Through this research, the discussion will be examined using securitization theory to analyze how Australia's implementation of policies towards refugees and asylum seekers is a form of securitization. The securitization began with the speech act given by Scott Morrison and Anthony Albanese in 2021-2023 to make the arrival of refugees and asylum seekers in Australia as a security issue, both the security of refugees and asylum seekers themselves from the threat of drowning at sea and the security of Australia from concerns about transnational crime due to the arrival of refugees and asylum seekers through illegal routes from the sea. As a form of emergency measures from the given speech act, related policies such as detention policies in detention facilities and border protection policies through patrols in Australian sea areas were then implemented. Abstract

This study explores India’s defense modernization and strategic recalibration in response to China's growing geopolitical influence, particularly since 2014. The main goal is to analyze India’s evolving military doctrine, defense modernization efforts, and the integration of technological advancements to counter regional threats and strengthen its strategic position. A qualitative research design is employed using a case study approach. Secondary data from government reports, defense policy documents, and scholarly articles are analyzed through thematic and content analysis methods, enabling a comprehensive understanding of India’s defense strategies. India’s military doctrine has shifted from a South Asia-centric approach to embracing a broader Indo-Pacific framework. The "Make in India" and "Atmanirbhar Bharat" initiatives emphasize self-reliance, reducing dependency on foreign arms. Technological advancements in artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, and cybersecurity are central to India’s defense modernization. Strategic partnerships with countries like the United States and Israel have strengthened India’s military capabilities. However, challenges remain in bureaucratic inefficiencies, technological integration, and domestic defense industry development. India’s defense modernization is part of a proactive strategy aimed at long-term strategic autonomy and regional influence. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of India’s evolving defense strategy, blending technological innovation with geopolitical dynamics.
