Abstract

The research aims at evaluating the effect of durian seed starch addition for chemical and organoleptic properties of chicken nuggets. Randomized Block Design was used in this research by using four treatments and five times replication, and continued with Duncan’s Multiple Range Test Method. Durian seed starch used with four different levels (0%, 5%, 10%, and 15%) was added to the dough of chicken nuggets. Chemical quality variables measured were water, fat and protein content, while the variable was measured on the organoleptic were texture, taste and flavor. The result showed that durian seed starch was used with different levels given effects of water content, fat content, texture and flavor. The best result was chicken nuggets made with added of durian seed starch 5%, the average percentage of water, fat, protein, preference of texture, taste and flavor in chicken nugget with the addition of durian seed starch were 70.59;  2.23; 16.90; 3.31; 3.81; and 4.10 respectively. The conclusion of this research was effect addition of durian seed starch on chicken nugget decreased contents of water, fat and protein, value of flavor and taste, but increased the value of texture.Keywords: chicken nuggets, durian seed starch

Abstract

Bovine Ephemeral Fever (BEF) or three days sickness is one of the most common disease in cattle. The disease is caused by rhabdoviridae virus transmitted  through mosquito as a vectors. This paper aims to determine the incidence of BEF cases in Gunungkidul district, Yogyakarta. Diagnoses BEF based on information collected through the anamnesis from owner and the results of clinical examination. 134 (48%) from 277 cows were examined in the   Gunungkidul district period October-November 2016 diagnosed BEF. Clinical signs were found consist of anorexia 111 cases (34%), hyperthermia 99 cases (31%), lameness 42 cases (13%), cow downer 31 cases (10%), nasal discharge 35 cases (11%) and hypersalivation  6 cases (2%). Bovine Ephemeral Fever mayority reported on the second day of the disease progression by 67 cases (42%). The most common therapy  used combinations of antipyretics, antibiotics and vitamins were 45 cases (33%). Based on the information from the farmers, the treatment has given good results and absence of  the absence of post-treatment recurrence

Abstract

Levamisole has been reported can enhance immune response of animals against disease (immunomodulator).Giving levamisole before vaccination Avian Influenza (AI) virus is expected to increase antibody level (humoral immune response) against the disease. These experiments use an experimental method with a completely randomized design.A total of 105 laying chickens were divided into three groups: group one were AI vaccinated without given levamisole hydrochloride; group two were given levamisole hydrochloride 3 days respectively before AI vaccination and group three were given levamisole hydrochloride 7 days respectively before AI vaccination. Levamisole hydrochloride 1mg/50g given at a dose of body weight, orraly through drinking water. Blood sample to measure levels of antibodies that was repeated 3 times ie on day 21, 59, and 80 days. The results showed imunododulator levamisole hydrochloride giving 3 (three) or 7 (seven) days respectively pre Avian Influenza virus vaccination of laying hens did not increase antibody level (humoral immune response). Abstract

The study was conducted to identify the effect of meniran plant powder (Phyllanthus niruri Linn.) on microorganism activity (Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) and Escherichia coli). The LAB extract was put in De Man, Rogosa and Sharpe (MRS) medium and the Escherichia coli extract was put in E-Coli Medium (EM). The pure culture LAB and Escherichia coli was used to identify the effect of meniran plant powder (Phyllanthus niruri Linn.) using diffusion method. The experiment consisted of 6 treatments (P0= aquadest 100%, P1= antibiotic 100%, P2= meniran plant powder 0%, P3= meniran plant powder 50%, P4= meniran plant powder 75% and P5= meniran plant powder 100%). Variables in this research were inhibition of BAL and Escherichia coli. The study used a Nested Completely Randomized Design and if there were different effects among the treatments it would be then followed by a Duncan’s Multiple Range test. The study showed that the use of meniran plant powder (Phyllanthus niruri Linn.) had a significant effect on inhibition of BAL and Escherichia coli (P<0.01). Keywords: meniran plant, feed additive, Lactic acid bacteria and Escherichia coli

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine increasing of chitinase crude enzyme activity produced by Trichoderma viride at different gamma irradiation doses and to know the degradation on the eggshell of Haemonchus contortus. Eggs of Haemonchus contortus were isolated from sheep feces using buoyant centrifugation method. The qualitative test of chitinase was conducted by inoculating Trichoderma viride irridiated by  variation gamma doses control, 250 Gray, 500 Gray, 750 Gray and 1000 Gray on the media of colloidal chitin agar. The quantitative test was conducted by measuring chitinase activity using colorimetric method based on specific enzyme activity and determination of dissolved protein levels. Shell changes were observed microscopically while N-acetyl glucosamine levels and dissolved protein levels were measured using spectrophotometer. Data were analyzed using One Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) with significance of the 95% and continued with Duncan’s Multiple Range Test  (DMRT test). The results showed that gamma irradiation doses treatment increase of chitinase crude enzyme activity produced by Trichoderma viride. At a dose of 500 Gray, Trichoderma viride had the optimum chitinase specific activity i.e. 0.30 U/mg. Furthermore, chitinase crude enzyme effective to degrade all layers of the eggshell of Haemonchus contortusand the higher the concentration of crude enzyme given, the greater the level of egg damaged.

Abstract

This study aimed to know the type of the superior commodity of livestock and the structure of livestock growth in Regency of South Bolaang Mongondow, Province of North Sulawesi. This research was performed in three districts, such as District of Bolang Uki, District of Posigadan, and District of Pinolosian, possessing the largest ruminant and non-ruminant livestock population. Nineteen respondents of breeders were randomly selected, consisting of cattle, goat, native chicken, broiler, egg-layer, and duck breeder, respectively 15 respondents. Data collected was then analyzed using analysis of location quotient (LQ), coefficient of localization and specialization. According to the result of location quotient (LQ) analysis, cattle, goat, native chicken, and the duck was the superior commodity, becoming a base sector in Regency of South Bolaang Mongondow obtaining value of LQ &gt;1. From four of the superior commodities, nonetheless, only did cattle have more than one coefficient value of localization (1.020), depicting that cattle had been localized in the study area to sustain the local economy. The analysis of specialization showed that Regency of South Bolaang Mongondow had not self-specialized for certain types of livestock to develop regional economy, presented by the coefficient value of specialization which was still lower than one.

Abstract

This research was conducted in Senduro Sub-District, Lumajang from January 24th to February 24th 2016. The objective of the study was to determine the relationship between linear body measurement (chest girth (CG), body length (BL) and body height (BH)) and body weight of Senduro goats. The study used 104 Senduro goats that were categorized as PI0 to PI8. The correlation values between body weight and body measurements ranged from 0.90 to 0.97. The highest correlation values were found between body weight and chest girth (0.97, p<0.01). Correlation and regression analysis were applied to estimate the relationship among these traits. The study concluded that body weight had a strong correlation with chest girth (0.97), body length (0.92), and body height (0.90). Keywords: Senduro goat, body weight, chest girth, body length, body height

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the performance of reproduction in dairy cattle, the views of service per conception, days open, and calving interval. The material used in this study is the implementation of recording data or artificial insemination in 100 dairy cows females have at least twice to parturition known calving interval. Samples were selected randomly within the same district in Batu. The method used in this research is a case study. The data is taken primary and secondary data. Primary data retrieval is done by direct observation (observation), which includes several variables, where the variables include: the identity of the breeder, the number of cattle, cages and feeding and drinking. As for the secondary data obtained by recording the card Artificial Insemination (AI) owned by farmers. Sampling was done by purposive sampling and random with the following conditions: sampling was done by purposive sampling with the following conditions: minimal yearling heifer parturition twice and had a complete recording AI, including, the date AI and the date of parturition. Results from this study is the performance of reproduction in the dairy cooperatives Batu showed unfavorable results, average - the average total value of S/C of parity 1 s / d 6 is, 1.93 ± 1.18. As for the average - the average total value of DO and CI parity 1 s / d 5 is, 171.70 ± 132.20 days and 450.92 ± 132.83 days. In addition, the assessment of S / C, DO and CI at different parity using statistical tests showed that the S / C, DO and CI at various parity was not significantly different (P> 0.05).It concluded that reproduction display AI results in the KUD BATU less than the maximum and the difference between parity does not affect the value of the S / C, DO, and CI.

Abstract

In countries with high plant biodiversity such as Indonesia, the availability of food of plant origin is very diverse. The presence of anti-nutrients in plants would potentially cause problems in cattle if not managed properly. phytic acid is one anti nutritional factor  that have a role in disrupting the health and productivity The term phytate refers to the molecule phytic acid, which generally acts as a chelate to Mg, Ca, Na, and K, and in some cases protein and carbohydrates. Seeds of cereals, legumes and oilseed plant which is used as animal feed usually contains a lot of phytic acid which can cause a decline in nutritional value. However, with a variety of processing methods, levels of phytic acid in animal feed can be reduced or even eliminated. In addition to the processing method, the method of adding phytase enzyme may also be done to improve the nutritional value of the animal feed ingredients.Keywords:anti-nutrients.phytic acid. processingmethods.phytase
