Abstract

The purposes of this research were to determine the effect of addition of Azotobacter bacterial culture into media of goat faeces on medium quality and earthworm productivity; and also to examine the best dose of Azotobacter bacterial cultures addition. The research material was 800 g earthworm aged 3 months old. The research method was experimental with Completely Randomized Design using 4 treatments and 4 replications. The results show that addition of Azotobacter bacterial culture had a significant effect (P<0.01) on the medium quality and earthworm productivity (coccoon production, the number of juvenils per coccoon, coccoon hatching percentage, the numbers and weight of earthworm). The bacterial culture addition of 350 cc/100 kg goat faeces was found the best. We suggest to follow the study with observation about the effect of the length of fermentation to the medium quality and earthworm productivity. Keywords: Azotobacter, goat faeces, earthworm

Abstract

This research was conducted to know about the potential activity of cherry leaf (Muntingia calabura) as an alternative for disease caused by bacteria Staphylococcus spp. and Salmonella spp. The material of this review study was using some literature which related with papers topic. The method was using descriptive to explained and described in discussion chapter. Study of the effectiveness of cherry leaf (Muntingia calabura) had been compared with other natural antibacterial sources such as sirih leaf (Piper betle L.) and beluntas leaf (Pluchea indica L.). The result of this study showed cherry leaf was an effective natural antibacterial source because it has the widest inhibited zone against Staphylococcus spp. and Salmonella spp. which amount (19 mm and 37.7 mm) if compared with beluntas leaf (9.5 mm and 15.9 mm) and sirih leaf (16 mm and 17 mm). Another result, Muntingia calabura was effective for duck egg hatchability which amounts 87.74%, this result was high than chemical antibacterial (80.81%), beluntas leaf (44.05%) and sirih leaf (46.43%). From all literature about widest inhibited zone of natural antibacterial activity such as cherry leaf, beluntas leaf and sirih leaf against Salmonella spp. and Staphylococcus sp has the same extraction treatment. Moreover, the result from literature with explained about duck egg hatchery experiment between chemical antibacterial and natural antibacterial has the same treatment and duck egg incubation time. It was suggested to do further study to find out cherry leaf could be used as an alternative natural antibacterial for diseases caused by other bacteria.

Abstract

The study was conducted in subdistrict Pakis, Malang Regency from May to July 2013. The study materials were 54 Ongole crossbred cattle. Twenty seven cattle were inseminated using non sexed semen (P0) and 27 cattle were inseminated using sexed semen (P1). Samples were selected randomly using criterion that semen deposition was in position 4+. Gestation evaluation was calculated based on non return rate (NRR), service per conception (S/C) and conception rate (CR). The study showed that P0 had 74% of NRR and P1 had 59% of NRR. S/C was found 1.37 at P0 and 1.48 at P1. CR was found 74% at P0 and 59% at P1. The study concluded that non sexed semen increased better gestation for Ongole crossbred cattle than sexed semen The study suggested that sexed semen remains able to be inseminated to those cattle with high attention on the sexing procedures. Keywords: Sexing, egg white sedimentation methods, NRR, S/C, CR

Abstract

Mastitis is a disease caused by a wide variety of microorganisms that causes large economical loses and damages to the dairy industry by decreasing milk production and through increasing costs of antibiotic treatment and culling. In spite of the prevalence of mycotic mastitis is usually very low as compared to other agents of mastitis, but it has significantly increased during the last decade In recent years, fungal agents have been frequently reported among the causative agents for mastitis. Though moulds and yeasts are widely distributed in nature, only the yeasts are usually implicated as the cause of mycotic mastitis infections in ruminants. Given the importance of the disease, especially in terms of economic losses, in this short article we try to make a review to help practitioners and farmers in controlling and minimizing the incidence of mycotic mastitis.

Abstract

The body weight (BW, in kg) of sheep can be estimated by measuring the body length (BL, in cm) and chest circumference (CC, in cm). The study aimed to conduct anovel formula to predict BW of Garut ewesbased onits BL and Chest Circumference CC. The accuracy of the novel formula is then comparedto the commonly used Schrool and Winter Arjodarmoko formulas. The materials of the study weretaken from the1 to 7 certified data of adult Garut ewes with a total of 118 heads from three different regions: Bandung (73 ewes), Sumedang (22 ewes) and Garut (23 ewes). The observed variables were Body Weight (BW), Body Length(BL), and Chest Circumference (CC). The data showed that the average adultGarut ewesBW was at 44.05 ± 10.65 kg, BL at 62.35 ± 5.34 kg, and CCat 83.89 ± 6.25 kg. The novel formularegressionanalaysis for BW estimationwas (-91.1+ 0.575 (BL) + 1.18 (CC) with R2 = 81.0%. Moreover, BL and CC showed highly significant correlation (P<0,001) with the BW. The novel formula calculation showed the averageBW was 42.74 kg (-0.32 kg deviation), while the Schrool formula showed the average BW was 44.47 kg (+0.42 kg deviation), and Winter Arjodarmoko was 44.48 kg (+0.43 kg deviation). The reseach concludes that the novel formula for Garut ewesBW estimation had the smallest deviation compared to Schoorl and Winter Arjodarmoko formulas.

Abstract

The research objective was to study the effect of box position and transportation distance on body weight loss and the percentage of body weight loss on broiler finisher. The materials were 150 male chickens and 150 female chickens of broiler finisher. The research applied experimentally method was arranged in Randomyzed Block Design, with transportation distance as replication group and box position as treatment. Variable observed were body weight loss and percentage body weight loss. The datas analysis by ANOVA. If there were a different between treatments, were be continued by Least Significant Difference Test. The results of experiment indicated that the higher the placement position of the front box gave body weight loss and percentage of body weight loss on both male and female broiler chickens was higher. The farther distance of transportation both in male and female broiler chickens gave body weight loss and percentage of body weight loss higher. The suggestion was in the transportation broiler placement should placed in the position of front and back of the box, should not be too high to avoid greater body weight loss. In the long-distance transport needs to be given a transit point (rest) as well as feeding and drinking to minimal effect on body weight loss. Keyword : Broiler finisher, Box Position, Transportation distance, Body weight loss
