Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the optimum additional level of composite filler (wheat bran and pollard) and seaweed in making of rabbit nugget on moisture level, fat, protein, ash, iodine, antioxidants and dietary fiber contents. The method of the study was experimental research using completely randomized design with 3 replications and then it would be continued by Duncan’s multiple range tests if it was found significant differences among the treatments. The study showed that the addition of wheat bran and pollard had unsignificant effect (P>0.05) on moisture, fat, protein and iodine of rabbit nugget. Meanwhile the addition of seaweed had a very significant effect (P<0.01) on moisture level and had a significant effect (P<0.05) on fat and ash content of rabbit nugget. The average percentage of moisture, fat, protein, ash and iodine content of rabbit nuggets with wheat bran, pollard and seaweed substitution was 75.45; 14.22; 13.89; 1.91% and 35.22 µg/kg respectively. The best combination was found on treatment F3T1 (30% of wheat bran and pollard substitution without seaweed) because it was able to increase the nutritional value of rabbit nuggets as a functional food which had 5.00 mg/g antioxidant and 0.08% dietary fiber content. Abstract

The problems of ruminant feeding have received considerable attention in the tropics. In the tropics, most ruminants are fed on low-quality roughages, agricultural crop-residues and industrial byproducts. Urea is widely available and has been used as a source of ammoniation to improve the feeding value of various grasses and crop residues. Furthermore, urea treatment as a supplement is relatively easy to apply, handling, inexpensive and valuable substitute for natural proteins in the ration. Although the use of urea has potential economic advantages for N sources, there are limitations and disadvantages to its use. Excess level of urea feeding may develop a problem of urea toxicity, due to poor mixing of feed or to errors in calculating the amount of urea to add to the ration. This paper aims to summarize some of the results of research on the benefits and possible negative effects of urea use as supplement to ruminants feed.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to examine the effect of storage time and egg weight at room temperature on the interior quality of Magelang duck. The material used were 120 eggs of Magelang duck. The parameters observed were albumen index, egg yolk index and Haugh unit. The 4 x 3 factorial experiment with 2 factors was applied. In which the first factor (A) was the length of egg storage of: a1 = 1 day, a2 = 3 days, a3 = 5 days and a4 = 7 days and the second factor (B) was egg weight of b1 (low = 48,4g – 63,1g) b2 (medium = 63,2g – 73,6g) and b3 (high 73,7g - 81g,). The data were analyzed by the General Linear Model (GLM) procedure of Statistical Analysis System (SAS). The result showed that there was no interaction between storage time and egg weight on quality interior. Storage time was significant different (P<0,05) on albumin index, egg yolk index and Haugh unit. Egg weight had no effect on index albumen, egg yolk index and Haugh unit. In conclusion, the quality of the interior began to decline after being saved 3 days and the optimal egg weight for hatching eggs is medium egg weight.

Abstract

The quality of liquid semen with coconut water as diluent could be preserved up to 3 to 4 days during cold storage at 4 - 5oC. In this research, the successful insemination rate of coconut water-based diluent Boer goat liquid semen was observed to understand the application of coconut water as semen diluent. The materials used in this research were 5 to 7 months Viridis coconut water, liquid semen from 3 years old Boer buck, 30 does for acceptor, and Tris-aminomethane added with 10% egg yolk (EY) as a control diluent. The Boer semen was collected once a week by using artificial vagina, diluted and then stored before used for insemination. The insemination was done by using intra-cervical method at position 3, started with estrous synchronization by using 2 mL PGF2α. The research was conducted as experimental method under randomized group design with two treatments, that were Tris-aminomethane + 10% EY (P0) and coconut water + 10% EY (P1). All of the treatments were repeated for 15 times and the collected data were analyzed with Pearson’s chi square with Genstat 18 program. The observed variables include non-return rate and kidding rate. The results showed that the first non-return rate of P1 were 93.33% and in P0 were 73.33%, while the second non-return rate of P1 were 93.33% and in P0 were 80%. Furthermore, the kidding rate of P1 were 40% and P0 were 66.66%. The Pearson’s chi square analysis showed that there was no effect of coconut water as semen diluent to the kidding rate. The research concludes that the usage of coconut water as semen diluent did not affect the successful insemination rate of Boer goat.

Abstract

The research was conducted to find the protein level that gives the best results on the production performances of native chickens (crossed of Bangkok and Kedu chicken) on feed consumption, water consumption, body weight gain, and FCR and protein digestibility. This research constisted two steps. Firstly, the study found the best production performances using 100 chicks (DOC) with average body weight of 36.98 ±5.50 g/chick without differentitating their sex. Secondly, using 60 months old cocks, the study invetigated the best treatment wich has a good protein digestibility. The study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatments namely P0=control feed (using factory feed), P1=20% of protein feed, P2=19% of protein feed, P3=18% of protein feed, and P4=17 % of protein feed. Each treatment had 5 replications. If there was found significant differences among the results, the statistical test was continued by test of Least Significant Difference (LSD). The results showed that the use of different protein levels in feed did not give significant differences (P>0.05) on feed consumption, water consumption, body weight gain, and FCR. The treatment that used 19% of protein had the best value on weight gain. On the contrary, the results showed that decreasing levels of protein level on feed treatment had a highly significant effect (P<0.01) on protein digestibility. The study suggests that 19% of protein can increase the weight of native chicken and has a good protein digestibility. Keywords: native chicken, feed, protein, digestibility, production

Abstract

The study objective was to determine the effect of utilization various lipids with different concentration on physical quality of whey-porang composite edible films. The materials of the study were albumen, whey powder, porang flour and lipids (butter, margarine, beeswax and palm oil). The type of lipids were P1 (beeswax), P2 (margarine), P3 (butter) and P4 (palm oil), and its concentration were 5% and 10%. The variables were moisture content, film thickness, tensile strength and percentage of prolongation. The treatment was designed by nested completely randomized design (CRD) and the data were analyzed by analysis of variance. The Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) was applied if there were significant differences among treatments. The study found that type of lipids with different concentration had a very highly significant differences (P<0.01) on the moisture content and the tensile strength of edible film. Meanwhile, utilization of various lipids had a significant differences (P<0.05) on the film thickness of edible film, but not on its different concentration. Besides, type of lipid did not significantly influence (P<0.05) the percentage of edible film prolongation. However, its various concentration had a very highly significant differences (P<0.01) on the percentage of edible film prolongation. It can be concluded that utilization of several lipids with various concentrations in whey-porang composite edible films could reduce moisture content, tensile strength, and percentage of composite edible films prolongation but increased the film thickness. The study suggested to use butter lipids with 5% concentration to produce good mechanical edible films. The study needs further experiment about chemical quality and sensory test. Keywords: lipid, physical quality, whey, porang, composite edible films

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to acknowledge the difference of AI time towards Brahman Cross Cow’s pregnancy rate determined by time and Non Return Rate (NRR). The subjects in this research are 75 female Brahman Cross. Methods that were used during this research are fiels testing. Selection method of the sample livestock used is Purpose Sampling with criterias : Female adult cow with weight >250kg, aged 1,5 – 2 years, healthy, and free from any disease, and at least have mating urge. Materials used during this research are frozen cow semen that acquired from Balai Inseminasi Buatan (BIB) Lembang, Bandung, West Java widh 35-40% motility. The variabels are Cow’s pregnancy and mating urge’s symptomps. Data acquired duringthis reserch are analyzed descriptively and chi-square tested. Supportive datas are food and valuefrom heat detector (HD). Research result shows that Brahman Cross species which AI within 0-4 hours interval have higher CR according to NRR1, which is 70%. Compared with the other breed that AI within 8-12 hour interval, which had 37,14% CR value. According to chi-square test, the difference of AI time of Brahman Cross are p<0.05 which means that the difference of AI time of cow is affecting the pregnancy rate. It is advised that AI is executed during 0-4 hour interval after showing mating symptomps and further reviewed about the difference between AI execution time of Brahman Cross and further observation of NRR2 until NRR3 and also Pregnancy Test to know the pregnancy success rate of Brahman Cross.
