Abstract

Panekan Community Health Center reported the highest number of diarrhea cases in Magetan Regency from 2021 to 2023, with incidence rates of 23,162 per 1,000 toddlers in 2021, 14,865 per 1,000 in 2022, and 12,703 per 1,000 in 2023. This study analyzed the behavior of mothers of toddlers regarding diarrhea incidence in the Panekan Community Health Center area in 2024. This study employed an observational analytical method with a cross-sectional approach, involving 27 mothers of toddlers selected from a population of 37 using proportional random sampling due to unequal population distribution across strata. Data were collected through interviews and observations and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed significant relationships between knowledge (p = 0.015), attitude (p = 0.000), belief (p = 0.000), habit (p = 0.000), family support (p = 0.000), and home sanitation facilities (p = 0.000) with diarrhea incidence. However, no significant relationships were found for health worker services (p = 1.000) and community support (p = 0.704). The study concluded that knowledge, attitude, belief, habit, family support, and home sanitation facilities significantly influenced diarrhea incidence. Mothers of toddlers are encouraged to participate in educational activities and counseling organized by the Panekan Community Health Center to improve their understanding of diarrhea prevention.

Abstract

Energy-dense, low-nutrient, and ultra-processed diets rich in fat can be a risk factor for fatty liver disease. Fragrant pandan is a plant that grows widely in Indonesia and is widely used as a herbal plant. This study aimed to determine the potential of fragrant pandan leaf ethanol extract (FPLEE) to reduce ALT and AST levels. It is a posttest control group design experiment. A total of 24 Rattus norvegicus specimens. All groups were given high-fat food for two weeks, except for NC. In the next two weeks, S was induced by simvastatin and FPLEE; T1, T2, and T3 were induced by 8, 16, and 32 mg/200 g BW/day, respectively. The One-Way ANOVA test results showed α=0.000 for ALT and α=0.029 for AST. Post-hoc LSD showed that NC was significantly different from T1, T2, and T3 (p<0.05); therefore, FPLEE was unable to reduce ALT levels. For AST levels, NC was significantly different from C+, T1, and T2 (P<0.05). Thus, T3 (32 mg/200 g BW/day of FPLEE) yielded the best results in reducing AST levels (p>0.05). Based on these results, FPLEE has side effects on liver function, as seen in increased blood ALT levels, but it can reduce blood AST levels.

Abstract

Data from Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) in 2018 showed that the prevalence of anemia in 2018 increased to 48.9%, where the prevalence of SMP/MTS grade VII female students in Samarinda who were at risk of anemia was 7%. Based on the results of interviews with 10 female students, it is known that students have sufficient knowledge of anemia (60%), consume less tannin sources (100%) and do not often consume tannin sources (70%). Anemia can be prevented by providing education that will affect attitudes and food consumption behavior. One of the media that can be used is animated video. This study aims to determine the correlation of nutrition education on knowledge of anemia and consumption patterns of tannin in anemic adolescent girls at SMPN 29 Samarinda. The research design used was pre experimental with a one group pretest posttest design with a sample of 30 female students. The variables studied were nutrition education, knowledge of anemia and consumption patterns of tannin. The instruments used were pretest and posttest questionnaires and SQ-FFQ. The statistical test used is paired T-test if the data is normally distributed and wilcoxon test if the data is not normally distributed or ordinal scale. The results of the wilcoxon test showed that there is an correlation of nutrition education on knowledge of anemia (p=0.000). There is no correlation of nutrition education on the source of tannins consumed (p=0.102) and the frequency of consuming tannins (p=0.808).

Abstract

Clean water quality/water sources are critical factors in preventing diarrhea, especially in island areas that often face challenges of limited access and infrastructure to provide adequate clean water. This study aimed to see the descriptive relationship between the physical and microbiological quality of dug well water and the incidence of diarrhea in children on Kelapa Island and Kelapa Dua Island, Kepulauan Seribu. The results of the analysis showed that the physical quality of water in both locations met the criteria of the Minister of Health Regulation number 2 of 2023, namely, the temperature was in the range of 24°C-30°C, turbidity <1 NTU, and water that was odorless and colorless. Microbiological analysis revealed significant contamination, with total Coliform Bacteria and Escherichia coli levels exceeding the maximum allowable limit (> 0 CFU/100 ml ). Factors such as shallow well depths of less than 3 meters and well distances of less than 10 meters from pollution sources contribute to water pollution indicates fecal contamination that increases the risk of diarrhea, especially in children under five. Given the island region's limited access to water quality, these findings emphasize the need for improved water quality monitoring and environmental quality improvements to reduce public health impacts.

Abstract

Hospital financial failure means bankrupt in economic point-of-view. While from the patient care perspective, it can compromise healthcare delivery and deliver possible harm due to substandard services. Leveraging digitalization and information technology can significantly enhance financial management, improve efficiency, and ultimately support sustainable healthcare services. This bibliometric analysis through Scopus database. Retrieved articles were examined based on annual publication numbers, contributing countries, subject areas, authors, and cited documents. Visual analysis was done using VOSviewer to provided insights into word co-occurrence in clusters and R Studio's Bibliometrix package was employed to identify the most contributing countries and the most cited publications. The analysis on total 429 articles revealed that healthcare and activity-based costing is an emerging trend, with a growing number of publications each year. The United States emerged as the leading country in this research area, though other nations also contributed significantly. Medicine was identified as the most common subject area. VOSviewer analysis identified seven clusters related to the topic. Activity-based costing has evolved to accurately assess product costs in changing business landscapes, particularly in healthcare, where it helps optimize profits. The findings indicate a growing awareness of the importance of financial management in sustaining healthcare services globally. However, the study's reliance on a single database and lack of a comprehensive systematic review limit its scope, potentially excluding relevant research from other sources.

Abstract

The Sungkai leaf (Peronema canescens Jack), which is rich in alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and phenolics, has long been used as a natural immune booster, particularly during the pandemic. With increasing concerns over the health risks of fluoride, such as dental fluorosis and systemic toxicity, the demand for natural alternatives in oral care has risen. This study aimed to formulate and evaluate the physical stability of a gel toothpaste containing Sungkai leaf extract by examining the effects of varying concentrations of Na-CMC (Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose) as a gelling agent. Using an experimental one-shot case study design, the physical stability of different concentrations of NaCMC (3%, 4%, 5%, and 6%) was assessed. Stability testing was performed on 5 sample formulations per concentration. The tests included organoleptic properties, homogeneity, pH, foam height, and viscosity over four weeks. The results showed that all formulations met the Indonesian National Standard (SNI No.12-3524-1995), with semi-solid consistency, distinctive Sungkai odor, and slightly bitter taste. The average pH ranged from 6.42 to 6.84, the foam heights were stable, and the viscosity increased with higher Na-CMC concentrations, confirming the stability of the formulation. These findings suggest that natural Sungkai leaf-based toothpaste could provide a promising alternative to traditional fluoride-based products, particularly in markets concerned about chemical ingredients in oral care products.

Abstract

This study evaluates an innovative dental holder designed to improve patient comfort and radiographic image quality in intra-oral periapical examinations. Conducted at Muhammadiyah University Semarang Dental and Oral Hospital, the research involved 30 patients who used the modified holder featuring a 20-degree tilt, biocompatible PLA material, and silicone pads. Results showed that 73.33% of patients experienced no nausea, and 93.33% had no allergic reactions, highlighting the holder's safety and comfort. Although 56.67% reported excessive oral pressure, 60% noted reduced pain due to the silicone pads. The holder also improved image quality, with 76.67% of patients acknowledging clear apical images, and 100% reporting no distortion or blurring. The study indicates that while the holder significantly enhances patient comfort and image quality, further design adjustments are needed to address size-related issues. Future developments should focus on customizing the holder for local anatomical variations and exploring additional eco-friendly materials. Enhanced training for practitioners and further research with diverse populations are recommended to optimize the holder's effectiveness.

Abstract

Hypertension is a significant global health concern, contributing to high mortality rates and increased risks of cardiovascular disease. In Indonesia, hypertension prevalence has reached over 33% of the adult population. Non-pharmacological interventions, such as nature sound therapy and isometric handgrip exercises, have shown promise in managing hypertension by reducing systolic blood pressure. This study introduced Tool Nature Sound and Isometric Handgrip (Toonatric), an innovative tool combining nature sound therapy and isometric handgrip exercises. This research employed a quasi-experimental design with 66 elderly hypertensive patients divided into intervention and control groups. The intervention group used Toonatric for 30 minutes daily over 5 days, while the control group continued standard care. Pre and post-intervention blood pressure measurements were analyzed using Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests due to non-normal data distribution. Results indicated a significant reduction in systolic blood pressure in the intervention group (p = 0.000), with an effect size of Cohen’s d = 0.48, demonstrating a moderate clinical effect. Toonatric has the potential as a complementary tool for managing hypertension in elderly, combining psychological and physical benefits. Further research should focus on long-term effects, broader populations, and usability improvements for clinical and home settings.
