Abstract

As many as 15-25% of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) patients have the potential to experience diabetic foot ulcers and the rate of recurrence or recurrence of diabetic ulcers is 50% to 70% over 5 years.  A quarter of patients with Diabetes Mellitus have the potential to develop diabetic foot sores or diabetic ulcers and more than half to 70% have a recurrence of diabetes mellitus over 5 years. Recurrent diabetic ulcers have various impacts such as reduced quality of life, economic burden, and psychological, and social effects, even if not treated properly, they can lead to infection, amputation, and even death. The study aimed to analyze the relationship between family support and foot care compliance with the incidence of recurrent diabetic ulcers. The study design was a cross-sectional study, with a sample size of 50 diabetic ulcer patients and the family support measurement instrument was the Hensaring Diabetes Family Support Scale (HDFSS). The results of statistical analysis using the chi-square test obtained p value = 0.013. Patients who adhere to foot care experience recurrent wounds (12%) and those who do not comply with foot care experience recurrent wounds (34%). Statistical analysis using the chi-square test obtained p value = 0.039. It can be concluded that family support and compliance with foot care are related to the incidence of recurrent diabetic foot injuries, so it is recommended to comply with foot care and provide support for DM patients to prevent recurrent foot injuries.

Abstract

Meningiomas commonly manifest as granulations, dense clusters exhibiting hyperintense signals on the meningeal layers and close to cranial nerves. Detailed and isotropic imaging are key in the diagnostic evaluation. Nevertheless, standard MRI sequences have been inadequate in capturing these granulations, incorporating the T2 3D CISS axial sequence for improved visualization. Our case study aims to meticulously evaluate the diagnostic imaging strategies used for meningioma cases, explicitly focusing on cranial nerve imaging. The MRI protocol encompassed axial, coronal, and sagittal T2_TSE and DWI sequences and post-contrast T1-weighted imaging. A detailed calibration of the 3D CISS sequence parameters was performed to enhance the imaging of cranial nerves affected by the suspected meningioma. Our findings highlight the necessity of a meticulous MRI protocol, which includes precise imaging sequences, to evaluate meningiomas effectively, particularly for assessing the potential involvement of the cranial nerves.

Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease where blood pressure is above the normal limit, namely systolic ≥140 mmHg and diastolic ≥90 mmHg. Hypertension is often known as the "silent killer" because it has no symptoms. This research aims to determine the effect of nutritional literacy through flipchart media on knowledge and adherence to a low-salt diet in hypertension sufferers. This research is quantitative with a quasi-experimental design with a Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design approach. The intervention group was given nutritional literacy through flipchart media and the control group was only given leaflets. The results show a difference in the average post-test knowledge score between the intervention and control groups (p-value 0.000) and a difference in the average score for increasing sodium intake between the intervention group and the control group (p-value 0.017). After nutrition education with flipchart media, there was a difference in knowledge and salt intake between the intervention and control groups. The intervention group achieved higher knowledge and lower salt intake than the control group (p-value < 0.05).

Abstract

Staphylococcus epidermidis is a common pathogen responsible for peri-implantitis, an infection localized around dental implants. Its virulence is largely attributed to biofilm formation, which enhances resistance to antibiotics and immune defenses. The challenge of treating S. epidermidis is further compounded by its resistance to several antibiotics, including methicillin. This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial and anti-biofilm properties of a copper-zinc (Cu-Zn) metal alloy and its efficacy when integrated with beta-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) as a graft medium against S. epidermidis using in vitro methods. This research employs Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 12228. Antibacterial activity was assessed using Direct contact test and viability count via Colony-Forming Unit (CFU) analysis, while biofilm formation was evaluated using the tube adherence method. Increasing copper and zinc concentrations enhanced antibacterial efficacy, with Cu-Zn-β-TCP suspensions showing significantly greater antibacterial activity (p = 0.01) and improved anti-biofilm properties compared to Cu-Zn suspensions without β-TCP. The incorporation of copper and zinc effectively inhibited bacterial growth and biofilm formation of S. epidermidis. Furthermore, the Cu-Zn alloy demonstrated higher efficacy when used in conjunction with β-TCP as a graft medium, suggesting its potential for managing peri-implantitis.
