Abstract

The opening of reading interest must be compared with the effectiveness of the activity. A preview of the strategies used, Ask Questions, Read, and Summarize (PARS) that have been done can improve the memory and effectiveness of the reading itself. The methodology of this research is classroom action research. Data analysis in this study uses descriptive techniques whose data collection techniques are taken from the results of the pre-test and post-test. There are two groups involved in this study: the experimental group (EG) and the control group (CG). During implementation, the two groups experienced different treatments. The population selected in this study was 7th-grade learners from Junior High School 5 of South Tangerang. In selecting the sample, the researchers deliberately chose two groups (n = 60 students). To collect data, the researchers implemented a reading test. The purpose of this study is to find out which reading techniques are deemed appropriate for students and expect a significant compilation using the PARS strategy.

Abstract

Vocabulary is one of the important aspects in English  to develop the ability of speaking, listening, reading and writing in learning English. The purpose of this research to examine whether or not there is significant effect of using short stories on students’ vocabulary development at MTs Al-Muttaqin Pekanbaru. The design of this research was quantitative data with the Pre-experimental design. The total of population were 272 students. The data of this research were collected from 34 students with the purposive sampling. The researcher taken one class in this research was class VIII A as experimental group. The technique of collecting data was Pre-test and Post-test design. The data analysis in this research by using statistical method of non parametric Wilcoxon signed rank test. The score analyze using was SPSS 23.0 version.  The result of Wilcoxon test statistics, the value of Asymp. Sig (2-tailed) was 0.000. The result data can be seen  that 0.000<0.05, it can be conclude that the hypothesis is accepted in experimental class used pre-test and post-test. The result of data analysis showed there was significant difference of the students’ vocabulary development before and after being taught using short stories at MTs Al-Muttaqin Pekanbaru.

Abstract

This research investigated students' motivation to learn English by a media of online platforms. The purpose is to find out the type of motivation they have, and the kinds of motivation in learning that they experienced. In the class of grade 7th  at Islamic Junior High School Al-Fityah, Pekanbaru, Indonesia, the teaching and learning process used 3 online platforms. They are Kahoot, Quizizz, and Google Form. The method of the research was a descriptive qualitative method. The researchers used observation and interview as the instruments. The observation data was got from the samples of 2 classes (@25 people). The result of the observation showed that the samples had intrinsic motivation higher than extrinsic motivation. Meanwhile, From the interview, it showed that students' motivation to use online platforms to learn English promoted every part of ARCS that are Attention, Relevance, Confidence, and Satisfaction.

Abstract

This research was conducted based on students’ problems in speaking, such as do not have self-esteem because the lack of courage students’, teacher strategy are boring, lack of vocabulary, feel hesitate in expressing idea because of the low capability in comprehension, error pronunciation, and low participation. Therefore, this research aimed to investigate the students’ speaking skill taught without and by using Digital Storytelling, to investigate whether there is significant difference on students’ speaking ability taught without and by using Digital Storytelling of the second-grade students at MAN 1 Pekanbaru. In this quasi-experimental research, the researcher applied total sampling. This research was held on September-November 2024. The total of population were 53 students. Where the class XI Bahasa 1 as the experimental class consisted of 28 students, and class XI Bahasa 2 as the control class consisted of 25 students. Thus, the total sample were 53 students. To collect the data, the researcher used a speaking test to determine the students’ speaking skill. In analyzing the data, the researcher used Independent Sample T-test formula calculated by using SPSS 23 version. The results of data analysis showed there was a significant different on students’ speaking skill taught without and by using Digital Storytelling, in which Sig (2-tailed) 0.000 had less value than 0.05, then Hₒ is accepted and Hₐ is rejected.

Abstract

The purpose of this research were to describe the level of academic stress in the 1st year and the 2nd year of English Education students and to examine whether there is a significance difference of the academic stress between the 1st year and 2nd year of English Education Students. This research was a survey design on quantitative approach. The population of the research was the 1st year and the 2nd year of English Education students at UIN Suska Riau. By having simple random sampling, it has been selected 97 first-year students from a total population 125 students and 108 second-year students from a total population 146 students. To collect the data, the researcher used a questionnaire to know the level of academic stress in the 1st year and 2nd year of English Education students. The data were analyzed by Descriptive Statistic and Inferential Statistic (non-parametric) because the data were not normally distributed using Mann-Whitney U Test on the SPSS version 21.0 program. The result of the data analyze showed that the level of academic stress in the 1st year of English Education students was at a low category, with 50 students (51.5%) and the level of Academic Stress in the 2nd year of English Education Students was also at a low category, with 48 students (44.4%). It can be concluded that there was no a significance difference of the Academic Stress level between the 1st year and the 2nd year of English Education Students at UIN Suska Riau.

Abstract

Literature Circles have been found to have effects on students’ reading comprehension.  The question is how Literature Circle can affect students’ reading comprehension in analytical exposition text. This research aimed to examine whether or not there is a significant difference on reading comprehension of analytical exposition texts between students who were taught by using Literature Circles and without using Literature Circles. The research design used in this research was a quasi-experimental design. The researcher used a two-group pre-test and post- test design. The population of this research were the eleventh grade students of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (Islamic Senior High School)  Pekanbaru., Riau province, Indonesia. The samples of the research were 37 students taken by using Purposive sampling technique.  In collecting the data, researchers used Pre-test and Post-test of reading comprehension of analytical exposition texts in the form of a multiple-choice test. To analyze the data, researchers used an independent sample T-test and eta-squared. The result of the research showed that there was a significant difference on reading comprehension of analytical exposition texts between students taught by using Literature Circles and without using Literature Circles with sigma 2 tailed 0,000. So, it showed that there was an effect of Literature Circles on students’ reading comprehension of analytical exposition texts. The effect size was categorized into large effect (0.26). In conclusion, Literature Circles are effective to help students in reading comprehension of analytical exposition texts. So, it is recommended that teachers should use Literature circles in teaching reading comprehension.

Abstract

This research aims to test whether there is a significant difference before and after use of YouTube videos on students' listening skills at SMK Abdurrab Pekanbaru. This research use quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design, the research focuses on one group pre-test and post-test design. The population comprised 165 eleventh-grade students, with a purposive sampling technique selecting 25 students from class 11 TLM 3. Data were gathered using pre-tests and post-tests administered through Google Forms, with treatment delivered using YouTube videos over four sessions. The data were analyzed using SPSS 23, employing a Paired Sample T-test. The findings indicate a significant improvement in students' listening skills. The mean pre-test score was 42.2, while the mean post-test score increased to 79.8. The study used Paired Sample T-test as the data analysis a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05), demonstrating a statistically significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores. In conclusion, the use of YouTube videos effectively enhances students' listening skills, as evidenced by the rejection of the null hypothesis (Ho) and acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha).

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of AI-generated word cards as an instructional tool to improve reading comprehension among ninth-grade EFL students in Indonesia. Employing a quasi-experimental design, the research involved 68 participants divided into an experimental group, which received instruction using AI-generated word cards, and a control group, which followed traditional teaching methods. The word cards were designed to align with the school curriculum, incorporating vocabulary and phrases relevant to the students' learning objectives. Data was collected through pre-test and post-test assessments and analyzed using the Independent Samples t-test to determine the intervention's statistical significance. The results revealed a substantial improvement in the experimental group's reading comprehension scores compared to the control group, with the effect size indicating a significant impact. The findings highlight the potential of AI-driven tools to enhance vocabulary acquisition and comprehension skills, addressing gaps in traditional instruction. This study contributes to the growing body of evidence supporting the integration of AI in EFL pedagogy, offering innovative strategies to bridge technology and education effectively.

Abstract

This research aims to test whether there is a difference between before and after the use of Song on Spotify Application, this research was conducted using pre-experimental method with a total sample of 19 students, and the research was conducted in class 12 AKL.The sampling in this study using purposive sampling. The instrument in this study was a fill in the blank test and consisted of 20 questions. The results showed a significant difference between before and after the use of word square model, researcher used the paired sample T-test test through the SPSS 20 program with a significance value of 0.001, lower than 0.005 and researchers also used the eta square formula with a result of 0.54.

Abstract

Cake application is an English learning application that aims to improve student learning activities in English. This application provides speaking, writing, listening, and reading features. There are several features in this application such as watching short movie and practicing speaking by using dialogue. The aimed of this research was to find out whether there is a significant difference of students’ speaking skill between before and after using Cake application at the Eleventh Grade of Senior High School 14 Pekanbaru. The researcher formulated the problems into three research questions that would be answering by using quantitative research. This research was a pre-experimental research. The total population was 422 students. The classes chosen as the sample was XI IPA 7 by using a convenience sampling technique which the total of sample were 36 students’. In collecting the data, the researcher used speaking test to determine students’ speaking skill. In analyzing the data, the researcher used Wilcoxon signed Ranks Test formula calculated by SPSS 23 version. Based on analysis of the t-test formula, the sig. value is 0.000. It could be stated that 0.000 had less value than 0.05, then Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. So it can be concluded that there was a significant difference of students’ speaking skill between before and after using Cake application at the Eleventh Grade of Senior High School 14 Pekanbaru.
