Abstract

Literacy activities in Indonesia are intensively developed to form literate citizens. Literacy is defined as a basic ability to develop individual potential in achieving goals. One of the literacies developed is numeracy literacy, which was coined in 2017. Numerical literacy is a branch of mathematical literacy. This ability guides individuals to recognize the role of numeracy competencies in everyday life. The knowledge of numeracy literacy is an urgent need for students. The student at least has received numeracy literacy development. This study aims to describe numeracy literacy in the field and compare numeracy literacy targets with reality in the area. The research method is descriptive quantitative. The data collection technique used a test with a research instrument of numeracy literacy skills and used non-test data, namely observation, and open interview guidelines. The research findings show that the students' numeracy literacy skills are still in the poor category. Numeracy literacy has not been developed in the implementation of the Gerakan Literasi Sekolah (GLS). Basic literacy activities have not been implemented properly.

Abstract

This research aims to produce a comic book that can be used to embed the character of tolerance to the students of 4th grade of elementary school. This research using development procedure from Borg and Gall includes seven steps procedure, they are research and information collecting, planning, developing a preliminary form of product, preliminary field testing, main product revision, main field testing, and operational product revision. The data resources were collected from interviews, observation, and questionnaires. Data analysis technique by quantitative descriptive statistics. Preliminary field tests involve three students and one class teacher. Main field tests involve twelve students and one class teacher. Final validation by material expert got an average score of 4.53, language expert got an average score of 4.50, and media expert got an average score of 4.25. The preliminary field-testing result got an average score of 4.50 in teachers and got an average score of 3.46 in students. The main field-testing result got an average score of 4.75 in teachers and got an average score of 4.74 in students. So, education comics can be used properly to embed tolerance characters in elementary school.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the project-based learning learning model on the thinking skills of PGSD students in the Social Sciences 1 course. The method used in this research is an experiment. The subjects in this study were PGSD students. There are two classes in this research design, namely the experimental class and the control class. The experimental class consisted of 37 students and the control class also consisted of 37 students. Data collection techniques used observation and document analysis. The data analysis technique used in this research is descriptive analysis calculated by comparing the average value of each variable with the standard curve criteria. The analysis prerequisite test uses the normality test. The hypothesis test used is the t-test. The results showed that the project-based learning model has a significant effect in improving students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop a natural science supplement book based on local wisdom in thematic-integrative learning in the fourth grade of elementary schools. This study uses Research and Development of the Dick and Carey model. The research data were obtained through observation, interviews, and questionnaires. The results of the feasibility of a local wisdom-based science supplement book were obtained through a product assessment questionnaire for material experts, media experts, linguists, and classroom teachers. While the trial results were obtained through a response questionnaire given to 58 fourth-grade elementary school students. The results of the validators show that the science supplement book is very feasible from the assessment of the material aspects with an average of 86.33%, the media aspect is also considered very feasible with an average of 91.63%, while the language aspect is considered feasible with an average of 76.67%. The results obtained from practitioners also get very feasible criteria with an average of 87.06%. The results of small-scale trials obtained an average of 100% and the results of large-scale trials obtained an average of 97,08% with very good criteria. Based on these results, the local wisdom-based science supplement book is very suitable for fourth-grade elementary school teachers in thematic-integrative learning.

Abstract

This study is to evaluate the performance of basic education teachers in managing learning in inclusive settings, with a focus on teachers' understanding of the diversity of students with special needs, teachers' abilities in preparation for learning in inclusive settings, teachers' abilities in implementing inclusive setting learning and teachers' abilities in assessing learning in inclusive settings. This descriptive study is based on monitoring and evaluation data for inclusive schools in 2019. The research subjects involved 160 teachers, consisting of 21 early childhood education teachers, and 139 elementary school teachers from five districts in Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY) Province. The data collection instrument used a questionnaire, while the data analysis technique used descriptive analysis. The results of this study conclude that teachers whose performance is effective at the level of inclusion are teachers who understand the conditions and development of their students. Based on the evaluation of teacher performance, it is necessary to provide teacher strengthening programs in line with inclusive education policies, and appropriate accommodation for students with disabilities in schools.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the impact of implementing child-friendly school policies in elementary schools. This research is quantitative research with survey design. Observations on the implementation of the policy were made to several schools in the Kulon Progo area. Analysis of field data regarding cases of child violence was carried out through descriptive statistics and literature review as a description of the condition of child-friendly schools in Indonesia. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of child-friendly school policies in the Kulon Progo Region is in the quite appropriate category. It is necessary to take steps in optimizing the applicable child-friendly school policy model. The constraint factors in implementing child-friendly school policies still need special attention, especially for education providers and the government.

Assessment of student learning is still carried out even at distance learning. This study aims to describe how elementary school teachers assess students' psychomotor during distance learning. This research is a qualitative research with the type of phenomenology. The subjects of this study were elementary school teachers, principals, parents, and students. The research data were collected using interview techniques and document studies. The data analysis technique used is interactive analysis through data collection, data condensation, data verification and drawing conclusions. The teacher begins the skills assessment by planning in advance. Planning begins with determining the competencies to be addressed, but the condition of the student's situation while at home is also a consideration for teachers in designing skills assessments. The implementation of the skills assessment is carried out through various platforms such as WhatsApp, Zoom, and Google Classroom. Teachers assess students' skills through photos and videos that students send on online platforms.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the need to provide teaching materials in the form of electronic-based modules (e-modules) integrated with numeracy literacy learning. Where math books are less able to provide delivery related to numeracy literacy. Given the lack of a learning process during the covid 19 period to improve students' abilities in the field of numeracy. The research objective is to develop an e-module for multiplication and division of numeracy literacy fractions for grade 5 elementary school students for practical problem solving. The development research method with the ADDIE model is Analysis, Design, Developments, Implementation, and Evaluation. Analysis of the data used in the form of quantitative and qualitative data analysis techniques through expert validators of teaching materials, media and language as well as teacher and student response questionnaires. The results showed that the e-module of multiplication and division of fractions based on numeracy literacy was declared feasible or valid with an average score of 89.37%. The use of e-modules got a positive response from teachers and students based on a response questionnaire with an average score of 92%. This has an effect on increasing students' understanding in the material of multiplication and division of fractions with an average value of 88. So that the e-module of multiplication and division of fractions based on numeracy literacy can help students in learning mathematics in elementary schools.

Abstract

Although gifted children have talents and positive traits in academic area that already been supported, little empirical evidence addresses the need of support for gifted children in non-academic areas in Indonesian context.  To fill this void, this study conducted a content analysis of two books about gifted children based on parents’ narratives to explore the need for support for social-emotional problems. “Menyongsong Pagi” and “Menyiangi Petang” are the two books which describe how thirteen gifted children grew up and face obstacle in their learning. Drawing on the theory of positive disintegration and Bronfenbrenner’s theory of ecological development, this study analyzed the two books to describe the uniqueness of gifted students in terms of emotion, intellectual and psychomotor still mostly seen as problems by their teachers and friends which lead to various educational issues. The implication of this study calls for the comprehensive support from teachers and schools’ leader to support gifted children both in academic and non-academic areas.
