Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of area development of Perpat Agropolitan Village - District of Belitung-Province of Bangka Belitung based on beef cattle commodity in terms of 5 (five) dimensions agropolitan level of area development, namely: the dimensions of agribusiness, agro-industry, marketing, infrastructure and superstructure. This study use a method of analysis of Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) called Rap-agrop and the results are expressed in index form and the status of sustainability. The result of MDS analysis shows the level of development area of Perpat agropolitan village, based on beef cattle farm commodities, was still low, ie: including Pre Regions Agropolitan. This region has an index value of Rap-agrop dimensional good enough for agribusiness (50.57%), infrastructure (64.49%), and the superstructure (57.23%), while the dimensions of agro-industries (6.52%) and marketing (9.98%) had an index value that is poorly. The key factors that strongly affected the level of development of the region agropolitan Perpat-Belitung, namely: 1) the production of beef cattle and 2) the production of processed meat. To enhance the development of this area is to do a thorough improvement of all attributes that are sensitive, so that all dimensions in the region agropolitan Perpat become enhanced and more sustainable.

Abstract

Since one decade ago, a new paradigm of vaccine design is emerging. Instead of attenuated virulent microorganisms or killed virulent microorganisms, effective subunit vaccines were developed using recombinant DNA technology. By using the technology, selected genes of the virulent microorganisms can be cloned, expressed, and evaluated as vaccine components. In this research, hydrophilic domain of S protein (aa 100-164)-encoding gene of hepatitis B surface antigen was cloned for vaccine candidate production. The gene was ligated with pGEX-4T-2 vector and sequenced. Sequences aligment of the amplified fragment with genome of hepatitis B virus indicated that the sequences were identical. A major result achieved from this research was clones carrying S antigens-encoding gene that could be used further for production of recombinant hepatitis B vaccine candidates.

Abstract

Dadih is a traditional fermented milk of Minangkabau ethnic which has been part of the richness of Indonesian food. Its existence has united with society life in West Sumatra, especially for community who resides in buffalo utilization areas. Here, some of buffalo milk productions are taken for dadih manufacturing. However, the production of dadih is still limited and does not show any immense progress so far. This review explains some aspects related to basic understanding about dadih, real condition of dadih production, the limitation of dadih’s production development and its consumption level, and completing with some dadih-related-researches and other potential attempts which are used as temporary answers to overcome low level of those conditions. Application of various researches on market scale is hoping to be the real response to force modern commercialization of dadih production and as a final point to enhance the level of dadih consumption.

Abstract

The aims of the present research were to calculate some genetically parameters for estimation of milk production potency of dairy cattle based on the recorded data for 10 years of production. Parameter calculated included: heredity, repeatability and production capacity. The data was collected from PT. Taurus Dairy Farm Sukabumi during the period of 1990-2000. Heredity and repeatability values were determined by variance and covariance analysis based on paternal half in completely randomized design. Calculation of milk production capacity was based on most probable producing ability (MPPA) formula. Results showed that the highest milk production of about 3.565.71  670.021 kg/y was obtained during the first lactation period and followed by the fourth lactation period of 3.331,80  806,35 kg/y. The highest heredity value of 0,36  0,35 was obtained at first lactation, followed by third lactation of 0,25  0,31, fourth lactation 0,22  0,30. The repeatability value of milk production was found 0, 33.

Abstract

During for the past 10 years, milk production in Indonesia has been on the increase of approximately 70% (FAO, 2002), but it can only meet 30% of domestic needs for milk. The remaining 70% is still imported, mostly from Australia and New Zealand. Milk production in Indonesia is expected to increase to achieve an average of 15-20 liters/cow/day. It is necessary to analyze dairy enterprises to assess its feasibility. The objectives of this study were: (1) to evaluate production technology of small holder dairy farm in West Java, Central Java and East Java; (2) to analyze the efficiency of the existing dairy farming. Twenty farmers from each localities with ownership less than or equal to 10 cows, consisted of small (<4 cows), medium (4-6 cows), and large (> 6 cows) scales were interviewed on their businesses. Economic analysis on net profit indicated by BC-Ratio, and IRR values. The dairy farming in West Java, Central Java and East Java was carried out traditionally without technological diversification, the main products were pasteurised fresh milk. Milk production was low (10 liters/cow/day). Net income of Rp 1,521,820/m/farmers, BC-Ratio 1.32, and IRR 17% indicated a low result. Improving cows ownership should be in line with the improved management and technology application.

Abstract

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of substitution of fish meal with hydrolyzed feather-meal in diet on the performances of broiler of 2-6 weeks of age. The treatments consisted of five levels of hydrolyzed feather-meal: 0, 4, 8, 12 and 16% in ration as B0, B4, B8, B12 and B16 respectively. The data collected were analyzed with a completely randomized design of 5 X 4 (5 levels of hydrolyzed feather-meal and 4 replications) and continued with contrast-orthogonal test when available. The results indicated that the level of hydrolyzed feather-meal significantly (P< 0.05) decreased the feed consumption, but the abdominal fat content and caucus weight were not significantly affected. The body weight gain of A4 was found not significantly different with that of control (B0) (1407.5 vs. 1331.00 g), but higher than that of B8 (1195.50), B12 (1118.75 g) and B16 (860.25 g).

Abstract

This research was objected to study the effect of plant densities on the biomass production and nutrient contents of elephant and king grasses intercropped with teak plant. The teak trees were about 9 months old and planted with the space between trees of 3 x 3 m. Elephant and king grasses were planted between teak plant in 3 difference densities of: 1.5 m x 0.80 m (one line density), 1 m x 0.80 m (two lines density), and 0.75 x 0.80 (three lines density). Parameters observed included: plant high, amount of buds/bunch, fresh and DM production, high and diameter of teak trees. Data were statistically analyzed for variance analysis in split plot design. Two kinds of grasses as main plot and 3 plant densities as sub plot with 3 replications. The results showed plant densities gave not significant effect on protein and crude fiber content of grasses, but crop production in both fresh and DM form increased significantly by increasing plant densities. Moreover, the development of teak trees was also significantly affected by grasses. Teak trees intercropped with king grass showed higher tree that intercropped with elephant grass.
