The purpose of this paper is about to investigate of Code-Mixing appeared in South Jakarta Community while this community having chat each other through social media, WhatsApp and Twitter. The phenomenon of Code-Mixing and Code-Switching in Indonesia became viral in last September. The used of code-mixing helps them to communicate with others, because not all the people can use the language properly. So that, learning about language is really needed. It will increase their vocabularies whether in Bahasa or English. Also, there are few reasons why the community applies the code-mixing in the daily activities. The writer uses the method of qualitative-description research which is done by the writer by getting involved in the community of social media, having the library and internet research with the relevant sources, and collects the data to be analyzed also describes by explaining the result of the research. The conclusion of the research is by the often using of Code-Mixing, the people indirectly increase their vocabularies. This phenomenon influenced many people to start to apply the Code-Mixing

The aims of this research are (1) to find out the transitivity process used by Joko Widodo in his speech at the APEC CEO summit November 10th, 2014, in Beijing, China, (2) to know the most found transitivity process in Joko Widodo’s speech at the APEC CEO summit November 10th, 2014, in Beijing, China. The researchers use Systematic Functional Linguistics approach and only concern on process in transitivity system analysis by Halliday. The data collecting technique is tabulation. This is a Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), belongs to qualitative research. The research results are (1) all of transitivity processes appeared in the speech, (2) the most found transitivity process in the speech is relational process which is 30 out of 78 utterances (38.5%).

English is taught earlier at the school. It is still learned continually until in the university. But unfortunately even though various methods and approaches have been tried out to reach the purpose, the result has not been satisfactory yet. Especially in speaking performance, students still has low scores. This study is aimed to describe the implementation of Three Step Interview and to increase students’ speaking performance. Objectives of the study are to describe the use of Three Step Interview towards student's speaking performance and to explore the increasing of students’ speaking performance through the Three Step Interview. The study was implemented in SMK Kartikatama 1 Metro, especially class X TKJ 2 using a classroom action research. The writer took 28 students as the subject. The data was a qualitative and the source of data taken from oral test. It used observation to collect the data. The techniques of analyzing data were reducing the data, presenting the data, and verifying the data.

This article discusses Code switching of English and Arabic happens in the Islamic boarding school: Pondok Pesantren Terpadu Miftahul Ulum Al-Yasini Pasuruan East Java. The researchers fascinated in analyzing a code-switching which usually happened at that place. The aim of this study is to find (1) the reasons in using code-switching in PPT Miftahul Ulum Al-Yasini Pasuruan, and (2) the types of code-switching used in that place by all members of the room. This is a descriptive qualitative research. In this case, interview and observation is used to get the data. This research was conducted for two weeks in the end of January 2020. The participants were 15 students from 3 rooms from Germany area which consisted for about 70 students. The results showed that the students used code-switching because of six reasons, such as: talking about specific topic, quoting somebody else, quoting someone else, interjection, recurrence for clarification, clarification the speech content for the interlocutor, to strengthen or soften some requests and command, and because of lexical need. The implication is that code-switching is inevitable due to various situation. It occurs in the context of EFL particularly when two foreign languages are simultaneously learned. ABSTRACTThis article points out the results of the study attempting to solve the speaking problem faced by students in one of the Higher School of Teacher Training and Education (STKIP) in Central Lampung. For the purpose of the topic, 30 fellow students were selected as the subject. Research method was Classroom Action Research with Kemmis and Taggart model. It was conducted for about four cycles. According to the results of speaking test, findings showed that using Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) had positive meaningful effect on improving students’ speaking skill. To sum up, CLT is an effective method to teach speaking to the subject.

The objectives of this research are to develop materials for CLT as an interesting media to learn English grammar, to know how material in CLT works as a media to learn and evaluate English grammar facilitates students to learn more grammar and to know the responses from the students to the materials in CLT. This research is Research and Development (R&D) which use ADDIE design for the procedure. ADDIE design is stand for the procedure itself, these are Analyzing, Designing, Developing, Implementing and Evaluating. This research is designed by book material. The subject of this research is university students of Economic Faculty of Muhammadiyah University of Metro in the second semester. The instrument of this research is questionnaire. The questionnaire in this research is used to collect data which is divided into one aspects, is readability. The data is analyzed using Percentage Analysis Data. The data shows that the product is developed well. For the readability aspect, the result of expert is valid, one-to-one is valid, then in small group is increased to valid, and in the field test it is valid. Therefore, the product is developed well after each phase of the research. Based on the result of the research, the researcher concluds that the materials in CLT book can be learned attractively and interestingly. The students can understand the materials well. The learning process can be fun and comfortable for the students. The materials of CLT book media can be used in the class as a breakthrough of attractive and interactive learning which is very interesting for the students of earlier grade.

The purpose of this research was to implement the skimming technique and analyze its influence in the student comprehending reading texts at the eleventh grade (XI TKJ) of SMK N 3 Metro. In this research the researcher gave pretest to know the students’ ability in understanding reading texts and posttest to know the result of the students’s ability in reading text after giving the skimming technique.This research was quantitative research which had been conducted in SMK N 3 Metro at the class XI TKJ and followed by 70 students as the sample. The tehnique sampling was cluster random sampling. In collectting the data the researcher used test. The researcher used the test to get the data of student’s reading comprehension through the questions which consisted of 30 multiple choices about the reading text. This test was used to figure out whether the skimming technique was suitable and could be used by the students in comprehending the reading texts. The analysis which was used by the researcher was t-test. Finally, the data indicates that t observed = 23.945 is higher than t table = 2.99. Therefore, it can be concluded that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. It means that the skimming technique influences the students’ reading comprehension at the eleventh graders of SMK N 3 Metro in the academic year of 2010/2011.

The researchers intended to know what strategies were used by male and female students in learning speaking, especially at the tenth grade of SMKN Karangpucung and what dominant strategy was used by male and female students in learning speaking. The main question to be answered in this research was concerned with the strategy used by male and female students and what the dominant strategy used by male and female students. The population in this research were 320 students at the tenth grade of SMKN Karangpucung consisting of automotive and accountancy programs, and 32 students were taken as the sample. The instrument used to collect data was a questionnaire consisting of 30 questions to determine the students' strategies used by every male and female student. This research showed that male students tended to use metacognitive strategies and female students tended to use affective strategies. Therefore, the researchers concluded that metacognitive strategies are more likely to be used by male students and affective strategies are more likely to be used by women students. Surprisingly, metacognitive strategies were dominated by male students, while affective strategies were dominated by female students.

English Education Study Program, Faculty of Education and Teacher Training in Muhammadiyah University of Metro.An analysis of The Third Semester Students’ Ability in Developing Narrative Text of English Education Study Program in Muhammadiyah University of Metro is the point because, the students worse in writing. They have many problems, actually writing genre and especially in narrative text. The purpose from this research is to analyze students’ ability in developing narrative text, and to know what the problem it happened to the students. The subjects of this research were the third semester of English education study program, and the sum of this subject was 36 students.This research used qualitative research. The data was collected by using questionnaire. The predicted research finding is the most valuable one that the students’ writing ability can be well, if we practice in our daily activity like make a story.

Abstract: Reading is one of the four skills in Senior High School. Instructing reading is a challenge to the teacher because it is such a complex process. Reading is not a general ability but a composition of many specific abilities. It is therefore necessary to break down general comprehension into specific skills that constitute it. The purpose of reading comprehension is to get information upon a reading text. Reading also means to comprehend the meaning from words that already known in order to increase vocabulary. But as the matter of fact, many students face difficulty in comprehending English text and the students still have difficulty in memorizing vocabulary. Furthermore, to understand English reading text the students have to have a good command of vocabulary, each word students add to their vocabularies make them a better reader. The objectives of this research are to describe vocabulary mastery and the reading comprehension achievement and to describe the correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension achievement. The subject of this research is 32 students of class X3 SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Metro. The result of this research shows that there is positive and significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension achievement. It is proven by the value of correlation coefficient (0.818) which is higher than the value of r –table (0.349). It means that the rise of the students’ vocabulary mastery will be followed by the rise of reading comprehension achievement.
