Abstract

Gandekan has an interesting problem to be used as an object of research due to its own uniqueness as one of the urban villages which is related to the history of the city of Semarang, while on the other hand, it is currently facing various problems both socially, economically and culturally. As time progresses, the historic Gandekan old houses began to be marginalized due to the foreign culture that entered the city of Semarang. The typology or characteristics of these houses are beginning to disappear based on field studies of old houses in the village of Semarang. So that, the field studies and grouping characteristics of the buildings were carried out to answer the research, in hope that the characteristics of the old house of the Gandekan village community can be preserved in the midst of cultural development.

Abstract

The use of shadow puppets as an object in the formation of an architectural design has been widely used. This is due to the elements of meaning and description and the philosophy closely related to Javanese society. Of the several case studies that have been found, most still focus on the form of shadow puppet and have not focused on the use of meaning as the main focus, so further studies are needed on the use of the appearance and meaning of shadow puppet in architectural forms. Qualitative methods are used by performing typology and semantic processes based on the Gestalt similarity principle to form meaning and rereading new meanings into form to form design elements. The results showed that the Pandava shadow puppets can be used as an object that allows it to use in forming architectural design elements based on visual typology and semantics of meaning.

Abstract

Old buildings in big cities, began to be looked at by architects for reuse. In addition to having historical value, using old buildings also saves material exploration. The use of recycled buildings has its own charm for visitors, because it can bring to the atmosphere of the past. The high interest of the public to visit the old building does not guarantee repeated re-visits, due to the factor of a sense of attachment to the place (place attachment). Attachment to one place needs to be considered to maintain the continuity of activities. This study aims to determine the relationship of place attachment to the interest in visitor arrivals in old buildings that have been converted. The object of the study was conducted in recycled buildings in the city of Jakarta, namely M Bloc Space, Kapitan Lim, and Pantjoran Tea House. This research uses non-experimental quantitative correlation research methods. Data is collected through questionnaires to visitors, then analyzed with a descriptive approach.   The results of the study stated that there is a very close relationship between the attachment of the place to the interest in visiting the building. The results of this study can be considered for planning and designing a function transfer building.

Abstract

The development of a city can be influenced by several things, including the geographical location and the condition of the natural resources of the region or area, one example is the city of Balikpapan whose development was initiated by the presence of petroleum natural resources, so that until now the city of Balikpapan is still known as "Oil City". Another advantage that makes the development of the city of Balikpapan is faster because it is supported by the geographical condition of the city of Balikpapan so that it becomes more strategic and is used as a stopover place both between cities and between provinces. As a stopover, the characteristics that can become the identity of a region are very important. To realize this, this research was carried out, using descriptive and qualitative methods in analysis and discussion. From the results of the analysis, it is known that it is necessary to maintain the physical form of an area, especially those that have historical values in the course of city development, one of which is by revitalizing and conserving areas in the city.

Abstract

Several heritage buildings dating back the ancient history of the Ki Buyut Trusmi Cirebon site have been renovated and new buildings added. This paper aims to examine measured drawings related to the absence of original architectural documents. The method consists of field observation, expression of cultural meaning and significant architectural elements, as well as measured drawing studies. The heritage of Hindu-Javanese architecture has historical significance as a tomb complex based on an 1898 map, which is still in great demand by pilgrims. The significance of Hindu-Javanese architecture is related to the position of the mosque in the tomb complex, the gate leading to the complex, the complex gate, the barrier wall, and the complex fence. The manifestation of Javanese architecture can be found in the building of the mosque with a three-tiered roof, connected to the two-level roof porch, and a place for ablution on the north side. The social meaning is related to the traditional events of procession, roof changing, Trusmian and the commemoration of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad SAW which has been preserved until now. Measured drawings of the situation of the mosque and the plans of the building reveal that the appearance of the complex is strictly limited to the main prayer rooms (signifying Javanese architecture), not yet accompanied by gates and barrier walls (indicating Hindu-Javanese architecture), for historical-archaeological relics. The measured image of the main door of the mosque (amounting to a height of 152 cm) shows the tradition of bowing respectfully when entering the prayer room (signifying Javanese Architecture). Hindu-Javanese architectural elements should also be recorded in measured drawings.

Abstract

Various adaptation strategy efforts have been made to reduce the impact due to the risk of environmental changes. Tidal flooding in the coastal area of Semarang is predicted to increase. Settlements affected by tidal flooding need to anticipate to reduce the risk of greater losses. The Tambak Lorok settlement is a phenomenon of resilience to live in a tidal flood disaster area. The purpose of this study is to explain the adaptation strategy of accommodation to settle in coastal areas affected by tidal floods in Tambak Lorok, Semarang with a qualitative descriptive approach. Data collection was carried out using a simple random sampling method with a questionnaire on 100 respondents of the Tambak Lorok community in 5 RW. The collected data are processed and interpreted by the methods of percentage description analysis and correlation analysis. It was concluded that the accommodation adaptation strategy for the Tambak Lorok community in responding to tidal flood disasters is influenced by factors of length of residence, monthly income, number of family members, perceptions of disasters, responses that have been carried out, regulations, and disaster characteristics. Adaptation to the adjustment is carried out by elevating the ground floor and increasing the height of the building structure. Behavioral adaptation is carried out by arranging the location of goods, and most people do not have a relocation plan.

Abstract

The urban forest is a tourist destination in a natural urban environment. The relationship between visitor activities, the characteristics of the place, and the meaning of the place is very important in maintaining its nature. This research was conducted using mixed-method approach, with exploratory sequential design. The first stage explores the motivation for visiting and activities in the urban forest. The second stage reveals the correlation between internal, external motivational factors, activities, and a sense of place in the urban forest. The analysis used is factor analysis and multivariate correlation analysis, to look for relationships between dimensions that are formed based on measured variables. The results showed a correlation between internal motivation, external motivation, activities and a sense of place, interested in visiting the urban forest because of their physiological, psychological, natural environment, accessibility and relaxation needs. Meanwhile, they are very interested because of their social, cultural, recreational activities and seeing attractions.

Abstract

Unplanned dense settlements in the development pay little attention to the technical aspects of the building and the environment, one of which is high humidity conditions and circulation pathways. Circulation in settlements can also function as wind circulation, which can affect natural ventilation, comfort, and the health of residents. This study uses a quantitative method with a descriptive approach to describe the relationship between the circulation width variable and the wind speed variable. The results of periodic field observations and measurements are then interpreted descriptively to determine the effect of circulation width on wind flow in densely populated settlements in Taman Sari, Bandung. The results showed that outdoor circulation close to open spaces had better wind speeds compared to areas far from open spaces.

Abstract

Personal space (proxemics) in public spaces should be considered essential to keeping the personal area separate from others. Meanwhile, privatization in public space will divide the area into small personal spaces due to the unclear form of territory in personal spaces. This study will identify and reveal the pattern of visitors’ territory transformation based on visitors’ activities in Lapangan Gasibu, Bandung. The data will be collected through observation and a survey on a weekday (Thursday) and weekend (Saturday). Then, the data will be analyzed using a descriptive analysis method based on mapping activities in the area. The result shows three transformations of spaces based on visitors’ activities and territories in Lapangan Gasibu. The pattern of transformation shows some areas of territorial spaces with unclear protection but need to avoid personal conflicts and some shared areas with low protection of territories. Thus, the thoughtful design of public spaces and physical facilities should be taken into consideration. This result is expected to be taken as a design reference for designing and creating comfortable public spaces that meet the need for personal spaces and activities.

Abstract

The application of stilt floors in row houses can increase the flow of wind under the pit. This study uses the literature review method to map research on the performance of stilt floors, study energy efficiency in row houses, and study the research gap that connects stilt floors, row houses, and energy efficiency. Materials for research are papers from the last ten years. To analyze research gaps using VOSViewer software, while analyzing research variables that have been used by researchers using Atlas.ti software. The results of the study indicate that more measurable research on building performance is still needed regarding the application of stilt floors to help energy efficiency. Energy efficiency in row houses is difficult to obtain due to limited land and the arrangement of row houses.
