Abstract

A bottom-up approach to social innovation arises from the issues at the root of the innovation, which usually originates in the lower middle class. An essential approach to design for social innovation is to manage projects with identifiable organizational stakeholders considering relationships in the context of power holders and empowering socially vulnerable and marginalized communities. In local contexts, community participation processes can support grassroots movements toward sustainable systems where the focus is on more complex situations. For a better understanding, the Solution Mapping Tool is explored in this paper through a case study of a workshop held in the least-developed region of Indonesia. The workshop focused on inventing a bamboo distillation device for Moke, a traditional alcoholic beverage made from fermented palm fruits. Using the Solution Mapping Tools, learners were inspired to explore and discover the diverse solutions that communities use and generate daily. The tool helps everyday solutions become visible and identifiable regarding needs, assets, problems and challenges, benefits, and opportunities for the future. The Solution Mapping Tools can also increase learners’ empathy towards people, including communities, by providing a place to learn about their daily lives, experiential knowledge, and context. This paper extends existing publications on distributing and learning about local assets as a pre-design process before applying a participatory-based approach.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to propose a measurement approach to measure the concept of virtual experiential marketing (VEM). This study offers a scale to measure VEM based on the theory of strategic experiential modules (SEMs) and telepresence. The study was conducted in a virtual world using a sample of 140 'Second Life' users. This study uses confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to test how well the measured variables represent constructs. The results showed that all fit indices indicated that the VEM scale had six construct factors (Sense, Feel, Think, Act, Relate, and Telepresence); the results show that the model is complete and valid. This research is one of the first to investigate the measurement of virtual experiential marketing in virtual worlds.

Abstract

West Java is well known for its abundant natural resources and handicrafts. Because of the abundant natural resources, many handicrafts are produced by local craftsmen. One of them is bamboo handicrafts in Selaawi, which are known for their bird cages, woven bamboo baskets, and so on. Another craft in West Java that still survives and has become the hallmark of the region is the palm-fiber broom in Purwakarta. During the production process, bamboo craftsmen in Selaawi and palm-fiber broom craftsmen in Purwakarta are known to have unique production tools that are specially made for certain functions. These simple tools are developed based on the special needs of production combined with the limited availability of tools and materials. Even though it is simple in shape, this equipment is an essential production tool that plays an important part in craftsman’s production activities. Nowadays, the challenge is the lack of motivation of the younger generation who work as artisans due to economic factors and a lack of knowledge about alternative solutions to achieve affordable and simple production. Through the digitizing artifacts method, the author archived various handicraft products and their production techniques from two case study areas in craft-centers, namely Selaawi and Purwakarta. Data collection and interviews resulted in the findings that the craftsman had gone through an innovation process using a social approach.

Abstract

The demographic and geographical conditions of the community are thought to have an influence on technology acceptance. However, there are not many studies which have evaluated the demographic and geographical conditions of the community in terms of the use of technology, especially application-based technology that directly interacts with the community. This study uses a modified technology acceptance model (TAM) as a theoretical framework. This case study investigates whether community demographics and geography influence the acceptance of Shopee Paylater among the people of Solo Raya. The model was validated using a questionnaire obtained from an online survey in the former Surakarta Residency as a representative for the people of Solo Raya. The results show that demographic conditions such as gender, age, and income and geographical conditions of residence have no significant influence on the technology acceptance model (TAM), which means demographic and geographical differences have no impact on the acceptance of technology within Solo society, especially the Shopee Paylater application. It is because there are no differences in access to technology or income levels in the Solo Raya. This research also shows that in a society that is relatively modern and has access to adequate infrastructure, it tends to be adaptive to new technology.

Abstract

This research article investigates the impact of the Internet on language development and digital linguistics in Indonesia. It explores the search frequency and familiarity trends of Indonesian words and phrases, examining their connection to social change and identity. The study utilizes the Google Trend platform to collect data from 2018 to 2023, capturing the prevalence of the Indonesian language in Google searches. The research incorporates a comparative analysis of online data from social media, incorporating ethnographic interviews with 30 participants, and conducting a comprehensive lexicon survey. 77 Indonesian words and phrases are collected and analyzed, providing insights into familiarity patterns. Additionally, interviews and surveys are conducted with Indonesian university students to understand their attitudes towards language, its role in shaping identities, internet usage, and societal norms. The analysis focuses on 40 selected words, investigating their correlation with language patterns, identity formation, emotions, and societal conventions. The findings reveal how neologisms within Indonesia’s digital linguistic landscape reflect societal shifts, including contemporary events, social media trends, and societal pressures. The proliferation of trending words aligned with themes of identity, societal norms, and emotional well-being highlights the influence of social media and the Internet on language dissemination. These changes are deeply embedded in Indonesia’s digital linguistic milieu and are further elucidated through interviews, offering insights into internet users’ linguistic practices. The study emphasizes the importance of tracking language and societal trends for self-expression and integration into diverse communities. It also highlights the reciprocal relationship between self-identity and communal influence on language development. This research contributes to understanding language dynamics and digital identity in the Indonesian context, revealing the complex interplay between language, society, and individual perspectives.
