Abstract

Abstract

This paper demonstrates how "antisemitism" is used to stifle criticism of Israel. The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) constructs a dimension of Israel's national identity and history that claims the state's existence while advancing its agenda amidst their human rights controversies. Israeli contribution  to develop a platform offered by the IHRA to assess and consider others behavior. The perception of antisemitism promoted by Israel is rejected by numerous countries, institutions, and Jewish foundations. This paper discloses Israeli motives and reviews “the IHRA definition” and The Jerusalem Declaration on Antisemitsm (JDA) response to IHRA’s “a working definition” using a discourse theoretical framework, as we concluded that Israel uses IHRA to shape the global perspective on antisemitism. This has led to debates questioning who has the authority to define "antisemitism" to prevent its misuse. Keywords: Antisemitism; Israel; IHRA; Human Rights.

Abstract

The global halal industry has become a crucial sector in international trade, with modest fashion and halal cosmetics emerging as key drivers of economic growth. Indonesia, as the country with the largest Muslim population, has positioned itself as a major player in the halal industry, supported by a robust regulatory framework and international trade agreements. This study examines the integration of halal certification in Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and its impact on Indonesia’s halal product exports, particularly modest fashion and cosmetics, to the Middle East. Using a qualitative approach with document analysis, this research explores the challenges and opportunities faced by Indonesian exporters, focusing on regulatory harmonization, market access, and international competitiveness. Findings indicate that Indonesia’s halal certification system, governed by BPJPH and supported by Law No. 33 of 2014, aligns with international halal standards but faces difficulties in mutual recognition with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Despite the Indonesia-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) reducing trade barriers, non-tariff barriers such as certification redundancy and supply chain inefficiencies continue to hinder exports. The study reveals that Indonesia’s modest fashion and halal cosmetics sectors are experiencing rapid growth, with total halal exports reaching IDR 673.9 trillion in 2024. However, competition from Malaysia, Turkey, and the UAE, alongside challenges in e-commerce adoption, logistics, and branding, limit Indonesia’s global market share. To enhance international competitiveness, regulatory harmonization, supply chain improvements, digital transformation, and strategic branding initiatives are necessary. This research provides critical insights for policymakers, industry stakeholders, and scholars in Islamic economics and global trade, emphasizing the need for stronger diplomatic efforts, trade policy alignment, and digital capacity building to strengthen Indonesia’s position as a global halal industry leader. Abstract

Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine was followed by a series of propaganda and disinformation aimed at degrading the government's political power and military capabilities in dealing with the war situation. Since the conflict escalated, there has been a significant increase in the spread of Russian propaganda messages and disinformation narratives among domestic Ukrainian society. Given the importance of political support and international legitimacy for the attack on Ukraine, the spread of propaganda and fake news about Ukraine has also targeted the global public. The enormous political impact requires Ukraine to take strategic countermeasures against the domination of Russian disinformation narratives. This study aims to explain the various strategic actions taken by the Ukrainian government and community organizations to overcome the spread of Russian propaganda messages and disinformation. This research uses a qualitative approach to analyze several of Ukraine’s actions toward Russian propaganda and disinformation attacks. A literature study technique has been conducted in this research by exploring the government’s statements, previous research, online publications, and other resources to collect data related to the topic. In general, this research found that the Ukrainian government, in collaboration with civil society communities, has increased anti-propaganda and disinformation campaigns to deal with the problems domestically. Meanwhile, various diplomatic initiatives are conducted in collaboration with governments and community organizations in different countries to counter the spread of Russian disinformation in the international sphere. It is hoped that, by applying those strategic steps, Ukraine can efficiently degrade Russia's political power and information domination regarding the war situation in the global arena. Abstract

Abstract

This article examines the lived experiences of Indonesian temporary migrants in Australia by situating their mobility within a broader conceptual framework of temporary migration and stratified citizenship. While policy narratives often frame temporary migration as a “triple win” for sending states, receiving countries, and migrants themselves, this paper argues that such frameworks obscure the structural inequalities embedded within migration regimes. Drawing on critical literature and grounded in qualitative narratives, the article highlights how temporary migrants occupy an ambivalent space—economically needed yet politically excluded. It engages with theories of neoliberal migration governance and critiques the responsibilities of migrants who are expected to bear the burden of legal and social precarity. The analysis advances the concept of stratified citizenship to understand how migrants’ rights, access to services, and sense of belonging are fragmented and conditional. Focusing on Indonesian migrants’ everyday negotiations, the article calls for a reimagining of migration governance that centres political inclusion, dignity, and transnational state responsibility. In doing so, it contributes to ongoing debates in migration studies, citizenship theory, and international relations by foregrounding voices that are often silenced within dominant policy discourses. Keywords: Stratified Citizenship; Temporary Migration; Political Exclusion; Neoliberalism; Migrant Agency.
