Abstract

This research aims to describe and analyze the numeracy literacy abilities of junior high school students in solving AKM model questions on number content. The type of research used in this research is descriptive qualitative research. The research subjects studied were 36 students in class VII-G of SMP Negeri 7 Serang City who had received material on whole numbers and fractions. The research instrument used was the AKM model questions consisting of three descriptive questions which had been adjusted to the numeracy literacy indicators. The written test results were analyzed based on numeracy literacy indicators and then strengthened by the results of student interviews. The research results show that students' numeracy literacy skills in solving AKM model questions on number content are still not good. Because students are unable to meet the three numeracy literacy indicators. Students' numeracy literacy abilities are predominantly in the medium category. In solving AKM model questions on number content, students with high and moderate abilities experienced calculation errors in the results of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Students with low abilities have difficulty determining solution strategies and understanding the concept of arithmetic operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division on whole numbers and fractions as well as in calculating discounts.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop an instructional design for teaching cubes and cuboids based on Local Instruction Theory (LIT). This study employed a design research approach, which involved three phases: preparing for the experiment, designing the experiment, and conducting a retrospective analysis. The participants consisted of 32 students from Class VIII-3 at SMP Negeri 1 Banda Aceh and one teacher. In the preliminary stage, the Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) was designed based on the learning objectives, activities, and relevant media. The instructional experiment was carried out to implement the HLT, whereas the retrospective analysis was intended to evaluate the effectiveness of the applied learning trajectory. The findings indicate that a well-designed Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) can significantly improve students' understanding of cubes and cuboids.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the thinking process of MTSs Darul Hikmah students in solving mathematical problems in flat side space building materials reviewed from Adversity Quotient. This study uses a descriptive type of research with a qualitative approach. The research began by providing an adversity response profile (ARP) questionnaire to 25 students in grade IX of MTSs Darul Hikmah. From these results, two subjects were obtained consisting of one climber and one camper subject. Furthermore, the two subjects were given problem solving test questions twice using flat-sided space building materials to measure students' thinking processes. Data collection was carried out through tests and interviews, while data analysis used qualitative data analysis techniques, namely data reduction and data presentation as well as drawing conclusions from each adversity quotient group. The results of the study show that the thinking process of MTsS Darul Hikmah students based on the adversity quotient in the climbers and campers categories has the same thinking process, namely the conceptual thinking process in solving mathematical problems in the building material of flat side spaces.

Abstract

Conducting successful mathematics instructions that attach values is a major issue of mathematics education recently. Various programs have been done to meet the purpose. One of them is knowledge islamization which is believed as an alternative-strategic solution. This effort is compatible with the objective of education in Aceh and Indonesia Education System that annunciate the goal of Education in Indonesia to bring the people into religious life. Then, integration of Islamic values onto mathematics instruction is an alternative that has to be chosen in order to make integrated-holistic education. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the implementation of Qur'anic Mathematics Instruction (QMI) on Set theory. It was a follow-up of QMI Research and Development that has been designed before. Data gathered through test, teacher’s and students’ activity observations. Three madrasah with the indexes of competency are "High", "Medium" and "Low" taken as the research subjects. The results showed that students in the "high"index has t-count value 0.023

Abstract

Mathematics is constantly evolving in accordance with the human need for technology. Therefore, mathematics is a subject that is taught at each level of education, according to the needs of all levels of education. In Indonesia, mathematics is one of the major subjects in primary up to secondary school. It aims to provide learners the ability of higher order thinking skills (HOTS). In order to measure the achievement of the objectives of mathematics learning, the government annually conducts the national examination for mathematics courses. It causes mathematics became one of subjects that is feared by most students and consequently make some teachers and students changed mathematics course “learning objectives” from reaching HOTS to just passing the national examinations. So, many unreliable quick ways emerge to solve the math problems. Some of the ways sometimes led to misconceptions in mathematics, which would obstruct the ability of the students’ HOTS. This article aims to show some of the misconceptions that are often encountered in solving mathematics problems. By recognizing the misconceptions, teachers are expected to avoid them and optimally anticipate the achievement of the “true” objectives of learning mathematics.

Abstract

Square function is one of mathematical concepts that must be well-comprehended by students. However, there are many students who are having obstacles in understanding the concecpt. For this reason, there is crucial a need of applying a teaching model which make students active in order to construct their knowledge and comprehension of the concept. The purpose of this study was to examine students’ achievements, detect the students’ activities, examine the students’ responds to the applying TAI model oriented by APOS theory. The classroom action research (CAR) was used in this study with 28 students of grade-10 (classroom X-MIA.1) of MAN 2 Banda Aceh in academic year 2015/2016 as the subjects of this study. The instruments used in this study were the student observation form, teacher observation form, student respond questionnaire toward the application of the learning model and the test items. The data was analyse by using percentage of the descriptive analysis. The results showed that in cycle I to IV: (1) 89,29% students achieved the minimum level of students’ achievement; (2) students were moderately active; (3) 100% students enjoyed the learning model and were agreed if in the next teaching and learning to be used the similar model. Consequently, the model of TAI oriented by APOS theory is an appropriate model used in the teaching and learning of square function concept.
