Abstract

Creativity in mathematics is one of the abilities that students in solving a problem must master. With creativity, students can develop their ideas to produce various solutions. However, in reality, the ability to think creatively is still low. This is because teacher-centred learning does not provide opportunities for students to develop their ideas creatively. Therefore, this study aims to describe the emergence of indicators of students' creative thinking abilities in solving mathematical problems on reflection material using the Palembang songket context. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive research subject, namely 3 class IX students. The research was carried out in three stages, namely, the preparation stage, the implementation stage, and the data analysis stage. The data in this study were collected through written tests and interviews. A written test was conducted to measure students' creative thinking skills data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion will be analyzed in three stages. The study found that fluency, flexibility, and elaboration were the most commonly used indicators of students' creative thinking abilities. Meanwhile, for the authenticity indicator, only one subject melts the indicator. Keywords:  Student Creativity, Reflection Material, Context

Abstract

AbstractThis paper explored pre-service teachers’ perceptions and knowledge of trigonometric concepts. Convenience sampling technique was used to select a sample of 200 (50 females, 150 males) second year science/mathematics pre-service teachers from two Colleges of Education in the Padangsidimpuan City. Trigonometry Perception Questionnaire (TPQ) and Trigonometry Assessment Test (TAT) were used to collect data on pre-service teachers’ perceptions and conceptual knowledge of trigonometry. Data were coded and keyed into Statistical Package for Service Solutions (SPSS version 20) and analysed using descriptive statistics. The results suggested that pre-service teachers perceived trigonometry as abstract, difficult and boring to learn; and had limited conceptual knowledge of basic trigonometric concepts. Consequently, more that 65 % of them were unable to construct and reconstruct the appropriate mental structures for meaningful understanding to enable them respond to important basic trigonometry tasks. To achieve quality mathematics education, teacher educators must change their instructional practice and teach for understanding. Since understanding is the key to teacher’s instructional actions, processes and knowledge, we recommend teaching trigonometry for understanding during teacher preparation.

Abstract

Fraction is one of the difficult topic for students. One way to reduce students’ difficulties is to implement Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) by integrating Islamic values such as Sacrifice Worship (Ibadah Kurban). In addition, the use of technology to integrate sacrificial worship in fraction learning is also expected to increase students' interest in learning in the 21st century and can improve students' understanding. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an e-module for learning fractions through RME with the context of Sacrifice worship. The developed e-module contains learning trajectories, live worksheets, videos, and post-tests. This type of research is research and development which follows the stages of Plomp, especially in the prototyping and assessment stages. The instruments in this study were validation sheets. The validators consisted of one mathematics education lecturer and two Banda Aceh City junior high school teachers. Based on the validity test it was concluded that the e-module meets the valid criteria. The implication of this research is the development of e-modules needs to be continued to test practicality and effectiveness.
