Abstract

The determination of totally phenolic compounds in methanol extracted of cortex fruit of Garcinia manggostana Linn has been done by Folin-Ciocalteau method. The antioxidant activity has been performed using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrihydrazil (DPPH) as reagent, that measured spectrometrically compared with gallic acid as antioxidant standard compound. The total phenolate compounds found in fresh peel of mangosteen was 1,64±0.18% w/w which calculated as gallic acid equivalence and the antioxidant activity with a value of IC50 was 251,12 μg.

Abstract

The central nervous system stimulant activity of the ethanol extract of young areca nut (Areca catechu L.) has been studied on mice. The observation was done by assessing the indurance, motor activity, curiousity, sleeping induced time and sleeping time in many variable of doses. Results showed that the ethanolic extract of 500 mg/ Kg bodyweight dose showed significant effect (P<0,05).

Abstract

Increasing oxygen consumption during intensive physical exercise may increase production of free radicals, and if it exceeds physiological capacity may cause oxidative stress as shown as chance of MDA level. Buah merah oil contains high betacarotene and tocopherol, as well as fatty acid such as oleic acid, linoleic acid, linolenic acid and decanoic acid. Tocopherol is major biological lipid-soluble antioxidant, protecting structures and function of cell membranes from free radicals. The objective of this study was to know in vitro antioxidant activity and the effect of buah merah oil on MDA level in blood during maximum physical activity treatment. In vitro antioxidant activity test was conducted using DPPH method (2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl hydrazyl). In vivo antioxidant activity test was done by using 24 male Wistar rats in pre - post test control group design. The rats were grouped into 4 groups. The control group was given destillated water and three treatment groups were given buah merah oil in the dose of 0,15 ml/kgBW; 0,3 ml/kgBW; 0,6 ml/kgBW respectivelyfor 10 days. Before buah merah oil was given, level of MDA was measured. Ten days later, the four group were given maximum physical activity mean of swimming until the sign of fatigue occurred (nearly drowned) and the blood was taken for blood MDA examination. In vitro, the IC50 of buah merah oil was 451,51 μg/ml. In vivo test, dosage 0,15 ml/kgBW could decrease MDA 5,22% Dosage 0,3 ml/kgBW could decrease MDA 11,96% and dosage 0,6 ml/kgBW could decrease MDA 8,19% . Buah merah oil showed antioxidant activity in vitro. In vivo experiment, all dosage of buah merah oil decreased blood MDA level but in the dose of 0,3 ml/kgBW decreased MDA level more than dose of 0,15 ml/kgBW and 0,6 ml/kgBW.

Abstract

The fetotoxicity effect of  methanolic extract  of the leaf of  kemangi (Ocimum Sanctum L.) on mice had been studied. The extract was given orally at various doses of 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg BW at 6th until 15th day of pregnancy. On the 18th day of  pregnancy laparactomy was perpormed on half number of fetuses from each litter. Mice on  doses of 500 mg/kg BW showed abortion. Macroscopic observation on the fetuses showed some anomalis of body weight compared to control but there was no malformation occured at all doses.

Abstract

Poly (D,L-lactide acid) has been used as scaffold and controlled release device for protein such as growth factor in tissue engineering. In this study, PDLLA microparticles were made and papain was used as model protein. Protein was encapsulated in microparticles using water-oil-water (W1/O/W2) and solid-oil-water (S/O/W) emulsification-solvent evaporation. Types of encapsulation methods and ratios of papain-PEG 20000 were observed in this study to provide the highest encapsulation efficiency. The entrapment efficiency made by W1/O/W2 method was 6,38%±0,025,  whilst S/O/W using ratios of papain-PEG 20000 1:1 ; 1:4 ; and 1:5 were 6,24%±0,91 ; 30,15%±1,66 and 60,67%±4,93, respectively. To conclude, S/O/W is the best method to encapsulate protein with highest entrapment efficiency.

Abstract

Cholesterol was a steroidal compounds contained in the human body. Cholesterol imbalance in the body caused hypercholesterol disease. Acharan sulfate is a compound found in snail body and potentially lowering cholesterol level. Acharan sulfate was extracted from snail body with maceration method using ethanol solvents. Research was done by using animals model, male rats (Rattus norwegicus) Wistar strain which was two months old and weighing 180 to 200 grams. The animals model were divided into six groups. One groups used as normal control. Five groups were treated with high cholesterol diet with suspense of cow fat and yellow egg for ten days. After that, three groups were treated with the ethanolic extract of snail body with doses of 40 mg/kgbw, 80 mg/kgbw, and 160 mg/kgbw. The two other groups were treated with Simvastatin and BR II feed (disease control). Total cholesterol, HDL and LDL concentrations were determined using enzymatic photometric test CHOD-PAP method. Results showed that snail body the ethenolic extract of decreased total cholesterol concentration by 6,33 mg/dl at doses 160 mg/kgbw and 4,90 mg/dl at doses 80 mg/kgbw. HDL concentration increased by 0,85 and 8,06 mg/dl respectively at doses 80 mg/kgbw and 160 mg/kgbw. LDL concentration decreased by 1.96 mg/dl, 2.22 mg/dl and 3.52 mg/dl respectively at doses 40, 80, and 160 mg/kgbw.

Abstract

The researh has been done on the influence of giving chromium (III) chloride on white mice blood SGPT.  The researh was divided into 5 groups, that is control,  doses ( 5,2; 6,37 and 7,8 ug/20 BW) with vitamin C and the dose of 7,8 ug/20 g BW without vitamin C. The observation was done for 42 days, that is day 7 th, 21 st and 42 nd with parameter SGPT concentration level. Results indicated that all doses showed the increase in SGPT concentration significantly (p<0,05).

Abstract

An antibacterial compound (HC 2) has been isolated from the n-hexane fraction of marine sponge Pseudoceratina purpurea Carter. Isolation of  HC 2 compound was done by chromatographic method followed by recrystalization. The antimicrobial assay was guided by diffusion method. The compound HC 2 was white needle crystals with melting point 125-127oC. HC 2 compound was tested for an antibacterial activity at concentrations of 5%, 3% and 1% against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus dan Staphylococcus epidermidis bacterials, respectively. Results showed that HC 2 compound had low activity against all bacteria. Identification and characterization of the active compound was confirmed by chemical reactions and infrared spectrum data. HC 2 compound was identified as steroid.

Abstract

A study on Solid Dispersion System of Isoxsuprine HCl by using syntetic polymer Povidon K-30 to increase solubility has been done has been done. The solid dispersion system were prepared by using solvent method with any comparison ( Taslim, 2007). Charactheristics of physical chemistry properties of solid dispersion such as dissolution test, X-ray diffraction analysis, Differential Scanning Calorimetry, and Fourier Transform Infra Red were assayed. The dissolution test from solid dispersion by using UV spectrophotometer. Statistical analysis of solid dispersion’s dissolution test was done by using Anova. The characteristic X-ray’s diffraction and FTIR showed that solid dispersion with drug to polimer ratio of 1:9 ; 2:8 ; 3:7 were amorf in comparison to other solid dispersions. Statistical analysis by one direction Anova concluded that the dissolution profile of the solid dispersion system of 2:8 was the highest.
