Abstract

Sub-acute toxicity test of dragon fruit juice has been research Hylocereus undatus (Haw.) Britt. & Rose of with  hematological  parameters to female white mice. Juice given orally by 0,5 mL/20 g of  weight dose with variation are 100%, 50% and 25%, once a day along 7, 14 and 21 days. A female white mice were only given food and water used as comparison. Calculated and measured parameters are levels of hemoglobin, erythrocytes and hematocrit, using tools haemometer Sahli, haemositometer and centrifuge. Results  that given dose of dragon fruit juice Hylocereus undatus (Haw.) Britt. & Rose has been provided the effect to increased hemoglobin and erythrocytes level (p < 0,05), but did not raised the hematocrit level (p > 0,05).

Abstract

A Study on hypertension therapy with comorbidity of type II diabets mellitus at hospitalized patients of Internal Desease Ward Raden Mattaher Hospital Jambi descriptively by using prospective data has been conducted. Samples were taken by using cencus method from patients medical record from February to June 2011. Appropriatenes of drug use was evaluated based on criterions stated. Results showed that the most common an hypertension drugs used was captopril (55.33%) and anti-diabetic was reguler insulin (R1) (31.25%). The rationality of indication reched 97.10% of patients, medicine 100%, dosage 74.12%, dosage interval 80.65%, route of administration 100% and rational of time was 45.16%

Abstract

This paper reports an optimization technique of effervescent tablet formulation from the ethanolic extract of “asam kandis” dried rinds (Garcinia cowa Roxb) and an assay of its reconstituted solution effect on rat’s body weight and feeding behavior. Formulation optimization was done by factorial design of 2 factors (extract concentration; composition of tablet disintegrant) and 3 levels. Nine formulas (FI – FIX) were prepared and subjected to evaluations including granule’s physicochemical and tablet’s pharmaceutical properties. The best formula was then chosen and given orally to 4 groups of rats: that was given standard food, high fat diet, high fat diet with reconstituted tablet 250 mg and high fat diet with reconstituted tablet 500 mg respectively. All groups were given 10 g of standard food every day for 10 days followed by high fat diet for the next 22 days. Two treatment groups were given reconstituted tablet at day 11th. The amount of food consumed by each group was weighed and rat’s body weight was measured. The optimization technique showed that both factors influenced the physicochemical properties of granules and the pharmaceutical properties of tablets significantly (p < 0.05). FV (extract concentration 500 mg, disintegrant: sodium bicarbonat 500 mg + citric acid 200 mg + tartaric acid 200mg) was chosen as the best.  Results showed that administration of reconstituted tablet FV to rats increased the bodyweight of the treated groups for the first week which then decreased during the next 3 week observation, while the body weight of control group kept increasing. Reconstituted tablet at dose 500 mg significantly influenced rat’s bodyweight and the feeding behavior (p<0.05). The group given reconstituted tablet 500 mg had the lightest body weight and consumed the least food during 3 weeks observation.

Abstract

A study on mucoadhesive properties of ketoprofen – PVP K-30 solid dispersion granules using chitosan had been done. Solid dispersion of ketoprofen and PVP K-30 was made at ratio 1:1 using solvent method. Granules were made by wet granulation method at various concentrations of chitosan (10%, 20% and 30%). The granules were evaluated including photomicroscopy, flow rate, angle slides, water content, particle size distribution, dissolution test, in-vitro test bioadhesif and wash off test. The release of ketoprofen from the granules was determined using basket dissolution test in pH 7.5 phosphate buffer medium for 8 hours. Mucoadhesive properties were tested by in-vitro bioadhesif tests and wash off test. The dissolution test showed the dissolution effeciency value of formula 1, 2, and 3, respectively, was 78.9890 ± 1.1398; 77.3889 ± 1.4312, and 75.8869 ± 0.2210 %. Results showed a decrease in the release of the active substance from the granules, with the increase in chitosan concentration. Statistical analysis of the efficiency of dissolution showed a significant difference among the three formulas with (P <0.05). In vitro bioadhesif tests showed that granules were able to attached to the stomach and intestinal mucosa of rabbits.

Abstract

Avocado (Persea Americana, Mill) has been used traditionally to cure disease but the effect has not proven scientificaly. This study reports the determination of anti inflammation effect of ethyl acetate fraction and hexane fraction of avocado leaves at various dose : 100, 200 and 400 mg/KgBW respectively. Inflammation was induced by using Paw edema method with induction of 1% carrageen 0,5 ml. Phenylbutazone at dose 9 mg/KgBW was used as positive control, while 1% sodium CMC given 1 hr before induction was used as negative control. The edema volume was determined at one hour interval for 5 hours, and percentage of inhibition was then calculated. Result indicated that the ethyl acetate and the hexane fractions of avocado leaves at doses 100, 200, and 400 mg/KgBW showed significant anti-inflammation effect (p<0.05). The best effect was given by the ethyl acetate fraction at dose 400 mg/KgBW.

Abstract

A study on the determination of paracetamol and salicylamide in a mixture by absorbance ratio method has been done. The absorption spectrum of both compounds crossing one each other at isoabsorption point. The maximum wavelength of paracetamol, salicylamide, and wavelength of isoabsorpsi line which show the relation of paracetamol fractions in a mixture containing paracetamol and salicylamide in various proportions and absorbances at isoabsorption wavelength was constructed. The measurement of absorbance was done at 247,2 nm and 300,3 nm. The experiment showed that the absorbancy ratio method can be used to determine paracetamol and salicilamyde. The percent recovery of paracetamol was 101,31 % with 0,642 % of standard deviation and coefficient of variation 0,616 %. The salicylamide content was then calculated and found to be 99,66 % with 0,863 % of standard deviation and 0,861 % of coefficient variation.

Abstract

Cholesterol was a steroidal compounds contained in the human body. Cholesterol imbalance in the body caused hypercholesterol disease. Acharan sulfate is a compound found in snail body and potentially lowering cholesterol level. Acharan sulfate was extracted from snail body with maceration method using ethanol solvents. Research was done by using animals model, male rats (Rattus norwegicus) Wistar strain which was two months old and weighing 180 to 200 grams. The animals model were divided into six groups. One groups used as normal control. Five groups were treated with high cholesterol diet with suspense of cow fat and yellow egg for ten days. After that, three groups were treated with the ethanolic extract of snail body with doses of 40 mg/kgbw, 80 mg/kgbw, and 160 mg/kgbw. The two other groups were treated with Simvastatin and BR II feed (disease control). Total cholesterol, HDL and LDL concentrations were determined using enzymatic photometric test CHOD-PAP method. Results showed that snail body the ethenolic extract of decreased total cholesterol concentration by 6,33 mg/dl at doses 160 mg/kgbw and 4,90 mg/dl at doses 80 mg/kgbw. HDL concentration increased by 0,85 and 8,06 mg/dl respectively at doses 80 mg/kgbw and 160 mg/kgbw. LDL concentration decreased by 1.96 mg/dl, 2.22 mg/dl and 3.52 mg/dl respectively at doses 40, 80, and 160 mg/kgbw.

Abstract

Purity and stability evaluation post-production of labelled compound 153SmCl3 with EDTMP have been studied. Purity evaluation of 153SmCl3 and 153Sm-EDTMP were conducted using thin layer chromatographic principle on Whatman No.1. Stability evaluation of 153SmCl3 and 153Sm-EDTMP were conducted using visual observation on color and pH changes. Table showes that purity of 153Sm-EDTMP was ± 98- 99 %. It means ± 1-2 % rest was free 153Sm+3 which is left on drop point chromatographic paper. Table also describes t-student analyses that t (-0.545) < t table (2.306). It means storage time did not affect the purity of 153Sm-EDTMP.

Abstract

Determination of cytotoxic activity of the extract and fraction of marine sponge Petrosia sp suing Brine Shrimp Lethality Test has been done. The Cytotoxic activity analysis was done toward methanol extract first, then continued to n-hexane, ethyl acetate and buthanol fractions respectively. The LC50 values were 70.736 ppm, 269.153 ppm, 197.38 ppm and 70.667 ppm respectively. Results showed that the extract and fraction of Petrosia sp potentially has cytotoxic activity whereas buthanol fraction has the higest citotoxic activity among at all. Phytochemistry screening for buthanol fraction contained terpenoid, steroid and saponin.
