Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Sunscreen is applied to the skin to protect it from UV rays. Wungu leaves (Graptophyllum pictum (L.) Griff), which are rich in flavonoids and exhibit antioxidant activity, are one of the substances that can be used to create sunscreen formulations. The purpose of this research is to determine how varying concentrations of wungu leaf extract affect the physical qualities of sunscreen spray formulations. This research method involves extraction, extract assessment (organoleptic, yield, and water content), formulation with different extract concentrations (500 ppm, 1,000 ppm, and 1,500 ppm), and physical evaluation (organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, and spraying pattern). Data analysis use linear regression equations in the software Microsoft Excel. All formulations with different extract quantities yielded green, transparent, liquid, homogenous solutions with a pronounced smell of wungu leaf extract. The results of pH and viscosity tests on formulations including diverse extracts satisfied the requirements for topical spray preparations, with pH and viscosity values sequentially dropping (Formulas 1, 2, and 3) with slope values of -0.43 and -4.835, respectively. The results of the spray pattern test indicate an oval to circular spread with increased diameter values in the extract variation and slope values of 0.55, 0.568, 0.6685, and 0.4865 at spraying distances of 3, 5, 10, and 15 cm, respectively. On the basis of the study's findings, it can be inferred that differences in the content of wungu leaf extract have an effect on the physical properties of spray sunscreen formulations, as measured by pH, viscosity, and spray pattern diameter.

Abstract

Solubility is one of the critical factors affecting the biopharmaceutical process of drugs. Low solubility limits the dissolution rate and the oral bioavailability. As a result, a higher drug load is required to compensate for the low bioavailability. Amorphous solid dispersion (ASD) is a recent approach to increase drug solubility by dispersing the drug in a carrier-commonly a hydrophilic polymer. It improves the solubility and dissolution rate by affecting the thermodynamic equilibrium of the drug in solution. The amorphous system has a random molecular arrangement leading to higher thermodynamic activity. The amorphous system in ASD has a higher free energy which facilitates a higher solubility and dissolution rate. Polymer is the main component after the active substance in the ASD system. Therefore, the success of ASD formulation will be determined by the selection of polymers and additives as well as their proportions in the system. In addition to the polymer, surfactants are used as a ternary system to give a synergistic effect on the dissolution rate. The system maintains drug supersaturation in the solution state through two main mechanisms: reducing molecular mobility and plasticizing effect.

Abstract

The quantitative analysis of vitamin C content from variations beverage  packaging  containing red guava (Psidium Guajava Linn) fruit juice had been done. In this study, 4 samples were obtained from the shopping center in Garut and Bandung City. Samples were tested quantitatively by 2,6-dichlorophenol indophenol titration method. The results showed different concentration of 4 samples consist of  tetra pack packaging, tin, glass, and plastic bottles, such as; 17.99 mg/100 gr, 31.46 mg/100 gr, 13.00 mg/100 gr, and 12.01 mg/100 gr, respectively. These result indicated that the packaging variations affected to the level of vitamin C content which was characterized by decreased levels of vitamin C. It means the levels of vitamin C from this research were not in accordance to nutritional value information on the packaging. Tetra pack packaging was the most stable compared to other packaging even though it had a shorter expired date than with other.
