Abstract

Selenoprotein W1 (SEPW1) is a protein containing selenium that has an important role in muscle growth and development by protecting myoblasts from oxidative stress. This study was aim to identify the diversity of the SEPW1 gene and its association with mineral content in sheep. The samples used were 100 sheep consisting of 10 samples of compass agrinak sheep (CAS), 15 samples of Javanese fat-tailed sheep (JFT), 30 samples of Javanese thin-tailed sheep (JTT), 25 samples of garut composite sheep (GCS), and 20 samples of jonggol sheep (JS). Selected mineral contents were determined using the IK method LP-04.10-LT-1.0. Identification of SEPW1 gene polymorphism will be conducted using Polymerase Chain Reaction-Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). The size of the amplification product was 455 bp. Abstract

The research aims to evaluate the breeding of the queen bee Apis mellifera, artificial engineering results based on Morphology. The method was carried out through the experiment of grafting queen bees with larvae of workers of different ages (1 day, 2 days, and 3 days). The grafting results are developed later in the colony until they hatch into queen bee individuals. The variables observed were the length of the forelimbs, the length of the middle legs, the hind legs, the length of the abdomen, the width of the abdomen, and the number of abdominal segments. The data obtained are then analyzed using Analysis of the variety of Fingerprints (Analisa Sidik Ragam) with Complete Random Design (Rancangan Acak Lengkap). The results showed that the age of the larvae had a noticeable effect (p0,05) on the length of the forelimbs, the length of the middle legs, the length of the hind legs, the width of the abdomen, and the number of abdominal segments, queen bee Apis mellifera. The conclusion of the study is the engineering of the breeding of queen bees Apis mellifera can use larvae up to the age of 3 (three) days with the result of the absence of morphological changes in the length of the forelimbs, the length of the middle legs, the length of the hind legs, the width of the abdomen, and the number of abdominal segments. Abstract

Boerka Goat is a small ruminant that has the potential to be developed to meet the demand for goat meat products. One of the methods to examine livestock health is through urinalysis. Qualitative urinalysis testing includes an examination of leukocytes, protein, bilirubin, urobilinogen, ketones, nitrites, pH, specific gravity, red blood cells, and glucose. This research aims to identify the chemical profile of boer-kacang goat urine chemical profile. During analysis a total of 16 urine sample of boer-kacang crossbreed goats from Walung Amertha Farm, Sanda Village, Pupuan, Tabanan were analyzed.  The urine samples taken were midstream urine. Sampling was carried out once then continue with the dipstick testing about three times on each sample.  The analysis data were tabulated and averaged before be presenting in a tabular form with descriptive analysis.  The results of the study on the chemical profile of boerka goat urine showed leukocytes positive1+ in 19% goats, bilirubin 1+ in 13% goats, nitrite positive in 6% goats, positive red blood cells in 13% goats, while the specific gravity with an average of 1.002 and the average value of pH with 8.25.  Based on the research, it concludes that the urine chemical profile of boer-kacang goat positively contains erythrocytes, leukocytes, bilirubin, and nitrite although other profiles such as protein, urobilinogen, ketones, and glucose is undetected.  Urine specific gravity measured using a dipstick was 1,000-1,010 whereas the acidity level/pH is normal.

Abstract

Forage is an important factor in increasing livestock productivity, and of course, both quality and quantity are influenced by soil quality. This study aims to analyze the productivity and quality of Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench has grown on nickel mine overburdened soil using different levels of urea. The study used a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 5 treatments with 4 replications with a total of 20 experimental units where the treatments used were P1 = use of urea fertilizer dose of 300 kg/ha, P2 = use of urea fertilizer dose of 400 kg/ha, P3 = use of urea fertilizer dose of 500 kg/ha, P4= use of urea fertilizer dose 600 kg/ha, and P5= use of urea fertilizer dose 600 kg/ha with the evaluated parameters (a) Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench productivity includes dry matter production per hectare, leaf-to-stem ratio, and stem brix content, (b) chemical quality including dry matter (%), organic matter (%), crude protein (%), and crude fiber (%). The study's results showed that the application of urea fertilizer with different levels did not significantly affect the productivity and quality of Sorghum bicolor (L.) Abstract

Vermicomposting is a process of consuming organic matter by involving the cooperation of earthworms and microorganisms. The result of this process is vermicompost which is very useful for plants. Earthworm Lumbricus rubellus, Pheretima sp., and Eisenia fetida are three earthworm species that have high potential in the vermicomposting. The research aim was to analyze the productivity of earthworms using cow dung and blotong and the quality of the vermicompost. The experimental design used in earthworm cultivation is a completely randomized design (CRD) of the factorial pattern, while a completely randomized design (CRD) was used for laboratory analysis. The results showed the highest body weight growth in treatment combination of fermented blotong with E. fetida; obtained the most increased cocoon production in treatment combination fermented blotong with L. rubellus. Species treatment E. fetida produces more cocoons than L. rubellus and Pheretima sp. The best vermicompost and the highest growth of kale from fermented blotong feed. Abstract

A bio-industrial farming system is a system that optimally manages and utilizes all biological resources, including biomass and organic agricultural waste, for the welfare of the community in an ecosystem in harmony. Integrating plants with livestock is one way to utilize all the waste produced from corn and cattle optimally, so it is a solution in providing organic fertilizer and feed during the dry season. This study aims to determine the perception, level of adoption, and adoption trend on the Bioindustrial Agriculture Model based on beef cattle integrated with corn at the farmer level. The research was conducted from August to December 2019 in Pangan Jaya Village, Lainea District, South Konawe Regency. Data was collected through interviews with 30 farmers with a structured question guide (questionnaire). Data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that farmers positively perceive the technological innovation of corn and livestock. Farmers consider technological innovation in the Bioindustrial Agricultural Model profitable, uncomplicated, easy to try and see the results, does not conflict with local traditional values, and is by community needs. The level of adoption of technological innovations in the Bioindustrial Agriculture model is in the high category, reaching 67.14%. The adoption trend indicates that some technology components that farmers have not adopted will be adopted in the next growing season. Abstract

Sekaran Village in overcoming the waste problem by forming TPS3R. An alternative to overcome this waste problem is cultivating maggot, which is used as fodder for chickens and catfish. This study aims to examine the effect of consumer perceptions on chicken and catfish purchasing decisions as a result of feeding maggots. The subject of this research is the people of Sekaran Village, with a sample of 100 people. The analysis used in this study uses index transformation analysis and partial t-test using SPSS 23. The analysis results of individual factor index transformation are 70.73%, stimulus factor is 71.58%, attitude is 55.23%, interest is 71.58%, and motivation is 69.46%. Based on the partial t-test analysis results, the individual factor indicator has a value of 6,930 > 1,985. The stimulus factor indicator has a value of 2,804 > 1,985. The attitude indicator is 4,785 >1,985, the interest indicator is 7,320 > 1,985, and the motivations are 6,184 > 1,985. Keywords: consumer perception, decision purchase, maggot BSF, TPS3R

Abstract

The scale of improvement in sheep farmers productivity depends on many factors, such as farming system, forage management and human resources. The objectives of the research were (a) to determine the socio-demographic profiles of the sheep farmers in West Java and (b) to study associations with forage management practices and production outcomes parameters on their farms. The study was conducted on 90 sheep flocks in West Java Province in March 2019 to June 2021. Interviews of farmers were performed by using standardized questionnaires. Forage samples were collected from each farm for forage analysis. On each farm, all of the animals were measured at random and evaluated for body condition scoring (1-5, including half scores). All statistical data analyses were conducted using R version 4.1.0. Analysis of variance was used to test for differences in quantitative data, while the potential associations of the socio-demographic characteristics with the forage management practices and production outcomes were evaluated by a linear model. The result showed that the majority of animal farmers were male (92.3%) with the age of farmers was 48.75±9.28 years. The mean farming experience of farmers was 9.47±5.1 years with a few farmers (11.5%) working full-time in animal farming and over 50% had animal farming as a secondary activity. The research concluded that the most associated socio-demographic characteristic with the variables studied were farmers’ main occupation following with age, gender and education. Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to determine the effect of Moringa leaf powder (Moringa oleifera Lamm) on concentrated feedstuff to improve the body weight, scrotal circumference, and semen production of kacang goat. A total of 20 male kacang goats aged 12-18 months with an average body weight of 15.96±1.82 kg have been used in this study. The feedstuff given is elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum) as basal feed and concentrated feed substituted with Moringa leaf powder in isoprotein feed. This study uses a completely randomized design. The male kacang goats are divided into 4 treatment groups with different dose of Moringa leaf powder substitution in the concentrated feed, namely P0 = 0%, P1 = 10%, P2 = 20%, and P3 = 30%. Each treatment is repeated five times. The data are then analyzed by ANOVA. Analysis of the nutritional content of Moringa leaf powder substituted in concentrate feed includes DM content = 87. 98%; OM = 91.59%; CFb = 8.03%; CP = 27.73%; CF = 4.16%; NFE = 39.92%; ADF = 8.68%; NDF = 9.96%; Tannin = 29.64%; Saponin = 2.37%, GE = 3997.00 cal / g. The results show that substituting Moringa leaf powder in concentrated feed has a significantly different effect (P 0.05) on the amount of feed consumption and semen production. The study concludes that feeding with Moringa leaf powder by 20% as concentrate substitution is given 1% of body weight (based on Dry Matter) can be applied to increase body weight, scrotal circumference, and semen production of male kacang goats. Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using pineapple bromelain enzymes with different levels on the organoleptic, physical and chemical quality of mozzarella cheese and to obtain the best levels of bromelain enzymes in the manufacture of mozzarella cheese. This research was conducted from July to October 2021 at the Animal Husbandry Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Kadiri Islamic University. The method used is a completely randomized design (CRD). This study used 4 treatments and 5 replications, namely: T0 (100% pasteurized cow's milk + 1% rennet enzyme), T1 (100% pasteurized cow's milk + 1% bromelain enzyme), T2 (100% pasteurized cow's milk + 3% bromelain enzyme) and T3 (100% pasteurized cow's milk + 5% bromelain enzyme). The research variables included the organoleptic, physical and chemical quality of Mozzarella cheese. Data were analyzed using Microsoft Excel program, then statistical analysis was performed using Completely Randomized Design Experiment (CRD) and analysis of variance, followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test (UJBD) if there were different results. The results showed that the use of the bromelain enzyme had a very significant effect (P<0.01) on color, aroma, texture, pH, melting power and moisture content of Mozzarella cheese and significantly (P<0.05) on taste, curd weight, yield and cheese weight. The conclusion is that the use of bromelain enzymes with a level of 1% is the best level, namely color, aroma, texture, curd weight, yield, cheese weight and moisture content of Mozzarella cheese.Keywords:      bromelain enzyme, mozzarella cheese, organoleptic quality, physical and chemical
