Abstract

Background: Orange juice and Carbonat drink contains an acid agent which can affect the surface hardness of composite resin. Changes of surface hardness of composite resin is caused by infiltration of water containing the acid agent that affect the bonding of matrix to filler composite resin. This study purpose to determine the effect of immersed orange juice and carbonat drink on surface hardness of composite resin. Method: This was experimental laboratory study with a pre and post test control group design. The samples of composite resin had 12 mm in diameters and 2 mm in thickness (n=27). Composite resin used is FiltexTM Z350 XT shades A2. Samples were divided into three groups : group A immersed with orange juice, group B immersed with carbonat drink, and group C immersed with aquadest as the negative control. Samples were immersed for 24 hours. The pre and post immertion of composite resin surface hardness were measured with Micro Vickers Hardness Tester. Results: Post immertion Vickers hardness was compared by using one way anova test. The result showed that immersed orange juice and carbonat drink significantly reduced the surface hardness of composite resin (p < 0,05). Concluision: The conclusion Immersed carbonat drink more reduced the surface hardness of composite than orange juice. It is suggested to reduce the duration direct exprossure of consumption carbonat drink.

Abstract

Background: In the case of mandibular resection that leaves a large mandibular bone defect, a mandibular reconstruction is required to restore functional and postoperative aesthetic factors. Mandibular reconstruction plate installation on mandibular resection is very important but difcult to achieve maximum results. The formation of reconstruction plates can be preoperative and intraoperative. Preoperative stereolithography (medical rapid prototyping/MRP) can be used to form rapid and accurate plates (precontours). Objective: Report the use of MRP as an alternative tool to precontour mandibular reconstruction plate.Case management: Reported reconstruction of mandibular defects in one case of hemimandibulectomy and two cases of segmental resection with avascular iliac bone grafts using MRP through a computer-aided design and computer aided manufacture procedure (CAD/CAM) to establish preoperative reconstruction plates (precontour) so the surgery doesn’t take long time to reconstruct, by forming a mandibular models under normal circumstances.Result: The formation of a reconstruction plates (precontour) using MRP (medical rapid prototyping) with CAD / CAM procedure gives results in accordance with the original form. Conclusions: The making of MRP through CAD / CAM procedure gives maximal result resembling the form of mandibular model. The MRP models get an accurate picture of the patient’s jaw as a pre contour tools for reconstruction plate. The formation of the reconstruction plates (precontour) with these MRP model is obtained from CAD / CAM and provides a normal jaw image, so that preoperative precontouring will give good and maximum result on the reconstruction plates made under the MRP models.

Abstract

Background: Burning mouth syndrome (BMS) is a chronic idiopathic oral dysaesthesia that presents as a burning sensation in the oral cavity usually without any specific oral lesions or laboratory findings. Burning sensations may appear on the buccal mucosa, hard and soft palate, tongue and lips. BMS appears to be more prevalent in postmenopausal women. The term menopause is often used for a condition in which the permanent cessation of the primary function of the ovaries in humans that occurs especially in middle-aged women. Available evidence suggested that BMS is a multifactorial disorder with physiological basis. Pathophysiology of BMS remains unclear. The etiopathogenesis in most patients who complain of burning sensations have interactions with several factors such as local, systemic, and/ or psychogenic factors. The aim of this literature review was to assess and evaluate the management of BMS comprehensively.Discussion: The therapy of BMS including hormone replacement therapy, systemically therapy, such as antidepressants, clonazepam and topical medication (clonidine and capsaicin) and reassurance as the stress management. Conclusion: Proper management of the BMS involves the combination of pharmacologic treatment and psychotherapy, as well as reassurance is an important thing

Abstract

Background: Dental radiographic examination is one of the most frequent radiological examinations carried out. X-rays in dental radiography is a shortwave electromagnetic rays that cause ionization reaction to any biological material in its path. The purpose of this article is to give an overview of stochastic effects in general as well as to pregnant women and fetuses in particular.Discussion: Ionizing radiation, such as X-ray radiation, is potentially teratogenic. Safe dose has not been well defined, although there has been approved dosing limits. Gestational age most vulnerable is the end of week 2 to A weeks post-conception. If the much needed radiographs of a woman who is pregnant, then the X-ray exposure will be directed mostly to the head and neck area.Conc/usion: Therefore, the application of the principle of ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) as well as good protection, including instrument control, protection of the room, the cumulative exposure dose control, and the use of apron throughout the process, is noteworthy. Such protection, especially for pregnant women and fetuses.
