Abstract

The developments in the management of women's body, has both, individually and socially, become an important indicator of the shift which is currently taking place widely in everyday life. Body care which has an orientation towards health, body form and appearance, clearly explains the subordination of women, mainly because the body expressions directly reproduces the domestic status of women and their values which are in a way, identical with tenderness, delicatessens, softness, beauty, andattractiveness. Socially and politically, the women's body has become an instrument in the reproduction of power and authority in the structure of the relationship between women and men, women and the nation, or women and capitalism. This paper will endeavour to explain that in the production and reproduction of these relationships, the reality of women's lives must be thoroughly understood.

Abstract

This article critically examines the family welfare data collected by the National Family Planning Board (BKKBN). Comparing the BKKBN's data with the UGM's data, the article demonstrates significant differences in family distribution, in most of the family welfare indicators. As a result, the categorization of families into family welfare stages between BKKBN's data and UGM's data differs considerably. This raises some issues on the reliability and validity of BKKBN's family welfare registration data. The article also discloses weaknesses embeded in the instrument and data collection processes which may hurt the reliability and validity of the BKKBN's data. Thus, the improvement of the instrument as well as the process of collecting data is absolutely necessary if the BKKBN is to more effectively implement its family welfare programs.

Abstract

Indonesia has infrastructure constraints, such as the need for food, health, and education. Limitation in improving the infrastructure has raised many problems, such as bad nutrition and the spreading of disease. In return, this condition has caused low life quality of Indonesian people compared to other Asean countries. The richness in nature resources has not yet became the basic element to develop the man resources in competing with other countries. The gap between the rich and poor, East and West, rural and urban, local people and outsider, gender imbalance became another constraints in building human capital in Indonesia.

Abstract

Cairo action program or more popularly known as "Plan of Action " is not a difficult thing to be done in Indonesia provided that it relates to the mandate of GBHN (Guidelines of State Policy) 1993 and of Act Number 101992 as wellas is not against the main point of the Second PJP (Long Term Development), i.e. the economic field is in line with the quality of human resources. In this writing, the State Minister on Population/Head of BKKBN (National Family Planning Board) gives some explanation about the "Plan of Action" among other things: reproduction rights, reproduction health, andfamily planning. Most of these things have been done in Indonesia. Therefore, it was not surprising if Indonesia gave more inputs in the Cairo conference.
