Abstract

Pineapple is one of the tropical fruits that grows a lot in Indonesia, Beluk Village, Belik District, Pemalang Regency is one of the large pineapple producers. At present there are various processed products from pineapple. However, there is a side product of pineapple skin waste from the processing of pineapple which has not been processed properly. Research on the content and benefits has been carried out in the laboratory, but the results have not been well socialized. Pineapple contains bromelin enzymes including the skin. The bromelin enzyme is a proteolytic enzyme that is antimicrobial, so it can be used as dandruff shampoo. Therefore, transfer of knowledge to reduce pineapple skin waste is very necessary. This study prioritizes participatory functions of women group (PKK). The main purpose of this study is transfer of knowledge to reduce pineapple skin waste by providing training to PKK group in utilizing pineapple skin waste as shampoo. Meanwhile, PKK group can earning extra income from shamppo produced from pineapple skin waste. The social engineering approach is used in this study, a combination of a social or community development approach with a simple method of processing pineapple skin waste. A social approach is needed to increase public awareness to utilize pineapple skin waste. The technical approach is used for laboratory-scale study on pineapple skin. Meanwhile, it also simplifies the processing of pineapple skin waste into shampoo so that it can be widely adopted by the community. Keywords: pineapple skin waste, community empowerment, shampoo of pineapple skin

Abstract

One efforts to increase crop production include improvements in cultivation systems, for examples the application of sustainable organic farming, such as use of the liquid organic fertilizers. The continuous use of liquid organic fertilizer on the soil serves to increase soil fertility. Provision of fertilizers can add nutrients to the growing media. The application of fertilizer can be in the form of organic or inorganic fertilizers. One alternative to maintain and improve crop yields is by providing liquid organic fertilizer. The purpose of this study was to provide additional knowledge related to the forms of liquid organic fertilizer and the benefits of using liquid organic fertilizer through the manufacture of Micro-Organism (MOL) banana weevil which is one form of liquid organic fertilizer that is easily obtained by the community. The activity through KKN-PPM is to provide socialization and training in making MOL of banana weevil. The result show that the community in the Walelagama District can develop knowledge related to organic fertilizers can beincrease plant productivity through the use MOL of banana weevil, whose ingredients are easily obtained so that the community can improve the existing organic farming system.

Abstract

This community service was aimed to evaluate beneficial effect and constrains of mineral supplementation onfeed of Simmental heifers that be raised by smallholders. Mineral were formulated by using locally available materials (rock flour, limestone, fresh water oyster shell meal) and prepared in loose and lick-block forms. The local mineral formulas were fed to 24 Simmental heifers raised by 17 smallholders for 14 weeks in four treatments: P0 (no supplementation, control), P1 (supplemented with commercial mineral premix), P2 (supplemented with local mineral feed in loose meal), and P3 (supplemented with local mineral feed in form). Each treatment consisted of 6 heifers as replication. Parameters measured included: blood minerals (Ca, P, Mg) and blood hematology (hemoglobin (Hb), mean corpuscular Hb concentration (MCHC), total red blood cell (RBC), white blood cell (WBC), hematocrit concentration (HCT)), total protein, and estrus onset. Results showed that heifers supplemented with local minerals (P2 and P3) were detected earlier estrus onset than the control (P0) and that supplemented with commercial mineral premix (P1). Local mineral supplementation gave also positive effect on blood mineral, protein and hematological profiles, even though there were no statistically difference. It was concluded that mineral supplementation gave positive effect of reproduction performances and nutritional status of Simmental heifers. Local mineral offered in lick-block had better effect than that in loose form.

Abstract

Agar wood farmer of Pejaring Village have used traditional method to induce resin formation on agarwood tree. They used mechanical method induction by nail and machete tools as well as chemical method induction by chemical liquid that the called by “infus”. These traditional methods influenced resin formation on agarwood tree at their agarwood plantation. That resin production was low in productivity and low in efficiency. The purpose of this community service was to conducted workshop of bio-induction technology for Pejaring Village agarwood farmer to solve their problem. Agarwood farmer of Pejaring Village were directly involved in all bio-induction training activity. This training was started by socialization of program through FGD with Agarwood Farmer of Pejaring Villange. Practical stage was started by selecting agarwood tree for sample by themselves. After selecting process has been done, training continued by bio-induction of agarwood sample using bore and injecting method also by themselves. The last stage was monitoring and evaluating of resin production on agarwood sample as result of bio-induction. In this stage, they got opportunity to give self-assessment of those resin production by organoleptic test. Bio-induction technology could stimulate resin formation on agarwood tree sample at 3 months after induction. This result was much better comparing to the result of traditional induction method that they used to conducted. Organoleptic test has confirmed that resin has quite good fragrance quality. It could be concluded that Pejaring Village agarwood farmers have understood about bio-induction technique and could applied that technology to replace traditional technology.
