Abstract

The people in Sampang Madura are accustomed to flood disasters so routinely that the people had become accustomed to and fully understood the character of the floods. This study aimed to identify the local wisdom of the Madurese community in dealing with, mitigating, and adapting to disasters, especially floods. The research was conducted in three stages: preparation, observation, in-depth interviews, and data analysis. The preparation stage was carried out by collecting secondary data about Sampang geography, the disaster histories, and people tradition and custom. In the second phase, in-depth interviews were carried out with the Sampang community and BPBD about how people deal with and adapt to disasters. The third stage was data analysis. The result showed that the people of Sampang had strong belief in their ancestral heritage, that everything comes from God, so they have to face it. People carried out disaster mitigation and adaptation by checking for early signs of disaster and following the advice. Besides, they were always connected with their relatives in other areas who gave early indications of flooding. Moreover, they built houses adaptive to flood. The people of Sampang can face, mitigate, and adapt to natural disasters in their area with confidence, knowledge, and following the advice.

Abstract

Mass media as the main channel of information was responsible for conveying information that became the public reference. Tirto.id, a verified news portal at the Press Council, reported six investigative news stories high lighting the government’s unpreparedness in dealing with the spread of Covid-19. The news between 27 February to 14 March 2020 were the objects of this research. Based on the objects, this research focused on the construction of Tirto.id on the reality of the government’s unpreparedness. This study used a descriptive qualitative method through Robert M. Entman’s framing analysis model. The reports of this study werestructured into: Define Problems, Diagnose Causes, Make Moral Judgments, and Treatment Recommendations. On the aspect of Define Problems, the research showed misinformation and coordination. The aspects of DiagnoseCauses were being ignored because of safe feeling. On the aspect of Make Moral Judgments, it showed criticism of biased policies. Meanwhile, on Treatment Recommendations, the state/government must be able to protect its people. The conclusion obtained showed that Tirto.id saw the government’s unpreparedness as a reflection of the country’s failure to protect its people due to unprofessional actions and biased policies in handling Covid-19.

Abstract

Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) declared themselves as an Islamic community. Rebel movement of ISIS is based on the goals of what is right and what is wrong of what ISIS believe. They have been done give bad impact to the way people see Islam itself. It is getting worse by the intense ISIS news covered by mass media. Christians, known as the most people who get the most disadvantage caused by ISIS. This is why it is interesting to know deeper of what the Christians in another place feel of this issue. The research is to see how the Christians get the conclusion of how mass media covering the ISIS news.The research is going to be a descriptive with an interactive qualitative analyzing research, to discuss in a forum as a place for nine Christians as member of Gereja Baptis Indonesia Saman, district of Sewon, Bantul Region, Yogyakarta. Abstract

Kanker serviks atau leher rahim merupakan kanker nomor dua yang paling sering menyerang perempuan di seluruh dunia, dan juga merupakan kanker kedua yang paling sering menyebabkan kematian. Di Indonesia, diperkirakan setiap harinya terjadi 41 kasus baru kanker serviks dan 20 perempuan meninggal dunia setiap harinya karena penyakit tersebut atau setiap 72 menit satu wanita meninggal karena kanker ini. Tingginya angka ini biasanya disebabkan oleh rendahnya pengetahuan dan kesadaran akan bahaya kanker serviks. Pada 2009 di Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta, kasus kanker serviks sebanyak 111 dan kanker payudara 191 kasus. Sedangkan pada 2014, untuk periode Januari hingga April, sudah ada 29 kasus payudara dan lima kasus kanker serviks yang baru. Penderita kanker terbanyak berasal dari kalangan usia 25 hingga 64 tahun. Namun, kanker juga ditemukan di usia remaja 15 hingga 24 tahun. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk menganalisis strategi komunikasi bahaya kanker serviks di Puskesmas Ngampilan Yogyakarta Tahun 2015.Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan subyek penelitian Wanita usia subur, Bidan puskesmas, Bagian sistem informasi dan pelayanan puskesmas, serta Penyuluh lapangan. Data didapatkan dari hasil wawancara, divalidasi dengan triangulasi data dan dianalisis dengan reduksi data, pemyajian data dan menarik kesimpulan.Hasil penelitian yaitu bentuk komunikasi yang digunakan adalah komunikasi antar pribadi dan kolompok sebagai upaya sosialisasi bahaya kanker serviks dan upaya pencegahannya serta menggunakan strategi komunikasi berbasis kader dalam mensosialiasisasikan bahaya kanker serviks. Berdasar hasil penelitian ini saran yang kami berikan agar puskesmas ngampilan membuat strategi komunikasi yang lebih terstruktur dan dikelola dengan baik demi sebuah informasi yang bermanfaat untuk masyarakat. Bagian promosi kesehatan Puskesmas Ngampilan sebaiknya membuat poster atau leaflet tentang bahaya kanker serviks dan pencegahannya. Mengadakan evaluasi setelah dilakukan penyuluhan untuk mengetahui tingkat pemahaman masyarakat.

Abstract

Jawa Pos is a regional newspaper from Surabaya that has successfully expanded its business to the national level as a national media conglomeration since the 1980s by developing sports journalism. Through sports journalism, Jawa Pos provides an affluent portion of news on Persebaya, a football club from Surabaya. Coinciding with an abundance of news section of Persebaya, Jawa Pos from the beginning made Persebaya fans known as Bonek as a newspaper consumer. The relations between Jawa Pos and Bonek is getting stronger when Jawa Pos holds Persebaya shares in 2017. Bonek is not only consumes as a reader of Jawa Pos newspaper, but also a consumer of match tickets and various Persebaya merchandise officially controlled by Jawa Pos. Although Jawa Pos is trying to build a structure that places Bonek as a consumer, the relationship between Jawa Pos and Bonek is not deterministic, but it develops dynamically. On the one hand, Java Post became a structure and Bonek became an agency whose relation was duality. In this relationship, Bonek is not only in a passive position, but also in an active position in their relationship with Jawa Pos. This Bonek and Jawa Pos relationship shows that Indonesian football fans are able to become an agency in the relations with club management.

Abstract

The purpose of the research is for capturing  communications network of the people in the natural disaster area of mount Merapi in Central Java. Dusun Kalitengah kudul is one of the worst vilages when merapi erupstion in 2010. This location has been acknowledgeed as the red zone but the local people dicided to stay since the historical and economic reason. Focus of the research is to identify the centralisation of communication network regarding the evacuation exercise as preventive action in disaster moment. The research use post positivist method with data survey and interview for data collecting. The research found that the a network is low centralized in which relations are focused on some actors. In this decentralized network, conversely, are those in which power and control of information and resources are diffuse and spread over a number of actor. The actors in central positions are consist of common local people, people in social structure, local government, people from university and volunteers. The messages flow in communication network are the relation of people regarding the evacuation process, the location for evacuation, and the need of accommodation during disaster. The spread centralization to many actors is very potential for capacity community building in disaster moment.

Abstract

Social media has become a double-edged sword for crisis management. It poses both opportunities and challenges. One of the challenges is that social media themselves could risk the organization by generating crisis-threat and amplify it. This crisis-threat is termed as paracrisis, and #uninstallbukalapak is an example of paracrisis. The Twitter public created this hashtag as a response to Achmad Zaky’s, the CEO, tweet that allegedly criticized the incumbent presidential candidate. Using the exploratory Social Network Analysis method, this research investigated the formation of #uninstallbukalapak paracrisis by identifying the most influential actors in the network discussion of #uninstallbukalapak on Twitter and investigated what topics were in the discussion. This research found that the most influential actors in the network of #uninstallbukalapak were @achmadzaky, @bukalapak, and @jokowi. Topics mainly discussed were mistake attribution to Achmad Zaky, the association of #uninstallbukalapak hashtag with presidential candidate support, and also the expression of public support to Achmad Zaky and Bukalapak.

Abstract

Some time ago, a rift arose between Sunnis and Shiites in Sampang, Madura. Then, banners spread across Yogyakarta stating that the Shia were heretical. On the internet, many websites sprang up claiming that anyone that justifies Shia is heretical. These were a form of propaganda, campaigning, or “proselytizing” that another group is deviant and infidel. This research tried to analyze the propaganda process in the media by radical groups against Shiite groups in Yogyakarta and to find out the techniques and tools used in it so that all parties could anticipate and map the potential conflicts. The research was conducted in Yogyakarta with a qualitative research type. Data collection was carried out by document review. The results showed that, first, propaganda provided a stimulus to the public to seek knowledge and information about the Shi’a group –and mainly conveyed a negative view of the Shi’a group. Second, this research found that the mechanism carried out was by providing information to the public by placing the media in strategic places. Third, the research identified that the propaganda theory used is Name-Calling, Glittering Generality, and Transfer, while the media used were billboards, banners, leaflets, and brochures.

Abstract

Photography as media of communication has become more and more popular today. The existence of photography has now entered sensual domain which is done in the name of art. This type of photography is known as “nude photography”. Nude photography is a photography technique which is full of lighting trick to show up the artistic side of human bodies, especially women. This kind of art has become commodity and changed into a masterpiece which has high value. Then women are forced to follow the beauty standard which is defined by men to avoid discrimination by the society. . This paper tries to correlate the relationship between body exploitation and art by referring to the concept of feminism which proves that there are inequities between men and women. Nude photography has violated ethics by showing off the vulgarity of each woamn body part. Women’s bodies, in fact, always become an endless discussion. This kind of exploitation cannot be minimized if there are many misuses in the name of art in patriarchal culture. Abstract

In every talent show on TV, labor commodification occurs not only on the creative team, but also on the contestants. Dai Muda Pilihan ANTV which was aired in 2011 was also full of commodification, particularly on the Dai (Islam preacher) as the contestants. In this study, the researcher wants to find out the processes and patterns of labor commodification, particularly the Dai in Dai Muda Pilihan ANTV. The method of the research is case study with in-depth interview, participant observation, and documentation as the data collection methods. The result shows that commodification in Dai Muda Pilihan ANTV occurred at pre-production, production, and postproduction. Therefore, the Dai who normatively have religious characters were encouraged to perform well and to entertain in accordance with the commercialization values of the television station which owned the program.
