Abstract

Public relations was a management function that planned and sustainable through organizations and private or public institutions to gain understanding, sympathy and support from those who were related or might be related to the study of public opinion among them. PR could keep the credibility of the organization remain good, reached out those who avoid salespeople or advertising; dramatized a company or a specific product as well as the relationship with the mass media. The perspectives of the study was people often perceived public relations as a group of people who twist the facts to turn a bad situation for the benefit of companies. It’s true that part of the public relations goal was to show the positive side of the company that happened. However, public relations ethics required that the works were done in an objective, fair, and transparent ways to the public. Public relation in communication practice was the form of public relations product, which operationally is a form of concrete activities and include efforts to do: employee relations, financial relations, community relations, crisis management communication, relationships public interest / public, consumer education, and relationship development Internet.  Keywords: public relations in practice, product PR, PR event

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the stages in the Tabot ceremony, found out the meaning of the messages at each of these stages, and also looked for the symbols meaning in the ceremony. This research was expected to provide contributions to the development of Communication Sciences, particularly those related to the symbolic meaning of the message as well as verbal and nonverbal communication. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The results showed that the Tabot ceremony in Bengkulu was a hereditary tradition which carried out annually and was taken as an asset to the area. The ceremony was conducted by nine ritual, where each ritual laden with messages and meanings that carries meaning and tells a history or story.  Keywords: the meaning of the message, culture symbols, tabot ceremony

Abstract

This research was a study conducted on transgender as one of the media spotlight. This study aimed to describe how the media portrays the existence of transgender in Indonesia through media. In this case the researchers looked at the cases of Dena Rachman. Results showed that there was particular justification of media in portraying negatively the behavior of people who become transgender or the like. The portrayal makes people against for the decision and behavior taken by Dena Rachman. Changing the male identity to be a female is very unusual. Especially for those who think that identity is inherent and unchangeable. Yet this identity is socially constructed and liquid. Dena Rachman’a changing reinforces the notion that gender is only two, namely men and women.  Keywords: Transgender, Mass Media, Social Construction.

Abstract

Certification of teachers is an education policy that applied since passed the Law on Teachers and Lecturers No. 14 of 2005. This research discusses the mechanism of certification and post-certification teacher working. This research used a qualitative descriptive approach. Data collected is done by in-depth interviews, obsservasi, methods of visual materials (photographs) and online search. Data analysis was conducted using interactive analysis Miles and Huberman. Based on the research results revealed that the mechanism of certification of teachers in North Bengkulu district has been going well, although still encountered some obstacles in the field. These constraints include: the socialization process in-service teacher still not up to it in view of the false teachers still encountered in filling the A1 format. Found 50% of elementary school in certification of teacher lack participants to have ability on computer information technology and is unable to access the online announcement of certification candidates. Pattern certification portfolio and PLPG considered to have advantages and disadvantages. In general, the performance of elementary school teachers who are already certified educator in SD N N0 17 Argamakmur district, has shown positive changes, although not yet able to satisfy the various parties such as government agencies and private institutions.  Keywords: mechanism, certification of teachers in position, performance

Abstract

This study aimed to find out the discrimination in feminine men in Sawah Lebar, Bengkulu. Discrimination occured because people only recognize two sexes, the female and male. In society, gender differences had not only biological implications, but also social and psychological because people have different expectations on the attitude, behavior, and appearance between women and men.This research used a qualitative descriptive approach. Informants were taken by using purposive sampling method. Data were collected by using interview, observation and documentation techniques. The results showed a picture of discrimination as evidenced by marginalization, subordination, stereotyping, violence, and double burden among the feminine men in society.  Keywords: discrimination, feminine men, gender differences

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the children’s parent communication in improving learning achievement in Mathematics. This was a qualitative descriptive research. Datas were collected by interviews, observation and documentation techniques. There were two groups of informants in this research, the key informant which consisted of a Math teacherin class VI Elementary School Number 27 Bengkulu and principal informant which consisted of two children’s parent, Mrs. Desi Yanti and Lini Marlina. Communication messages done by parents in improving achievement in Mathematics subject were: (1) providing guidance and advice, (2) supervision of learning, (3) giving rewards and punishments, (4) the fulfillment of learning (5) creating condusive atmosphere in studying, (6) paying attention to children’s health, and (7) providing handy hints. Based on the results of research and discussion, it was concluded that the instructional communication role of parents in improving learning achievement of Mathematics has been running quite well in pre-instructional stage and directing stage, also in follow-up evaluation stage. But in the aspect of instructional or learning it’s not fully completed.  Keywords: communication between parents and children, achievement in Mathematics subject, instructional communication

Abstract

This Study aimed to determine the etnography of communication in marriage between Javanese ethnic and Lembaknese ethnic. Informants were determined by using purposive sampling technique with the number of 13 informants. From the research, it could be seen that the communicative situation in Javanese and Lembaknese traditional wedding occurred several times, that is at the time of Lamaran (marriage proposal) in which male family were welcomed by the female family, Akad Nikah (Solemnization), Pijak Telur (eggs stampede) which symbolizes the beginning of family life that could produce a future generation, Sungkeman (kneeling) that is requesting prayers of both parents for the blessing, and Dahar Klimah which symbolizes that the bride and groom will live together in every situation. In addition, other communicative acts can be found from the ceremony is the giving message (advices) from the elders to the bride and groom about living in harmony in the household despite coming from different ethnics.  Keywords: ethnography of communication, traditional wedding ceremony, Javanesse, Lembaknese

Abstract

Advertising has become a hope for the majority of companies that want their products embedded in the hearts of consumers. If an ad is not likely to have a major influence on the behavior of consumers, the advertising effectiveness is doubtful. The purpose of this study was to determine the increasing number of visitors at Hypermart Bengkulu through ads in Rakyat Bengkulu daily newspapers. This study used qualitative methods, that’s research that produces descriptive data in the form of words written or spoken of those that can be observed. Informants in this study were divided into two groups, namely the key informants consisting of 3 persons and key informants consisting of 4 people. The main theory used in this research was EPIC theory. The results in this study was, one element of the EPIC theory, namely is not going well because not every visitor read or subscribe to the Rakyat Bengkulu newspaper, so it effects on the increasing number in visitors at Hypermart Bengkulu.  Keywords: increasing, buyers, advertising, hypermart

Abstract

This study aimed to see the readiness of Tanjung Terdana village in funds management on the Village Fund Allocation. The readiness could be seen from four aspects, namely: 1) device regulations/guidelines for the implementation readiness, 2) Human Resources readiness, 3) governance readiness, 4) Participation of the community. The results showed that although at first Tanjung Terdana village did not understand about the concept of financial management in particular the Village Fund Allocation which nominal was much greater than before, but they had the commitment and progress to develop the village by utilizing the Village Fund Allocation. So even though the implementing regulations at the local level was slow set so that governance couldn’t be run in accordance with a predetermined schedule, but head of the village and village officials consulted to a number of parties. Their willingness to learn, correct errors, effort, and along with community participation then slowly increased their readiness on managed the Village Fund Allocation.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the identity formation process in children with cleft lip in Curup Village Merigi Sakti District Central Bengkulu Regency. The research method was descriptive qualitative method. Informants in this study were 16 people,consists of 3 children with cleft lips, three parents, four neighbors of the children with cleft lips and 3 children who play with them.Data were collected by observation, library research, interview and documentation.The results showed that: (1) children with cleft lips disabilities communication was limited due to interference with their speech;(2) children with with cleft lips disabilitiesobtained theircomfort identities to some people who live with them, but feel uncomfortable with people who mocked their disability; (3) the comfortidentity gained by children with cleft disabilities with people they know; 4) the family ties were considered by children with cleftdisabilities as a bond that support their identity; (5) The support of parents was done through various activities such as buying clothes and take them for a walk;( 6) the identity stabilityof children with cleftlips as members of societycould happen when parents were able to understand their needs, but the identity was unsteady when there were those who mocking at them;(7) the provision of affection or special attention weretake them for a walk and buy new clothes that formed the satisfaction as the results of negotiations identity;(8) communications made by children with cleft lips with people around them couldn’t run effectively as they need to speak repeatedly to make their communicants understand.
