Abstract

The era of digital transformation presents new opportunities for students to develop their imagination and creative capacity by integrating artificial intelligence into literary learning, particularly in the appreciation of cross-cultural literary works. This study aims to describe the potential use of artificial intelligence: Leonardo.Ai, in enriching the learning experience and strengthening the appreciation of cultural values through the concretization of German poetry into visual images. The research highlights the meaning of the visualization of the poem “Abseits” by Theodor Storm by students of the German Language Education study program at the State University of Malang by focusing on three main dimensions: aesthetics, interpretation, and creativity. Descriptive qualitative method was used in this research. The source of data is active students taking the “Literaturgeschichte course class of 2020. The research data is in the form of student interpretation results in interpreting poetry visualization. The data were collected through a questionnaire sheet. Data analysis was carried out with the stages of data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing. The results showed that in the aesthetic dimension, students were able to interpret the meaning of poetry through visual elements such as color, composition, and visual harmony. In the interpretation dimension, students can connect the symbolism and themes contained in the poem with the visual representation produced. The creativity dimension is shown by students through the variety of approaches and innovations in combining visual and textual elements to create unique and in-depth interpretations of poetry. The implication of the research results is that AI can be used as a supporting medium in learning literature, encouraging student creativity, which ultimately provides a significant contribution in the field of education.

Abstract

Gramsci's hegemony study offers an innovative perspective on literature, which does not merely reflect class structures, but also has autonomous social, political and cultural dimensions. The short story Mata Celurit represents the local political reality of Madura, especially in the village head election, which is full of power struggles and cunning intrigues. This research is based on descriptive qualitative method, with the main object of Mata Celurit short story published on Kompas website. The unit of analysis used in this research refers to Gramsci's theory of hegemony, which is associated with the political phenomenon of Madurese society in the local democratic event, namely the election of kalebun (village head). The primary source of this research is the short story Mata Celurit, which is strengthened by secondary sources in the form of master books, journal articles, and relevant research. The researcher acts as a key instrument in the process of analysing the short story. The data collection technique is done through reading and note-taking, literature review, and data tabulation. Furthermore, the tabulated data was analysed in depth using the discourse analysis method. To ensure the validity of the data, researchers applied data triangulation techniques. Based on the results and discussion, it was found that ideological domination exercised by the political community to hegemonise civil society includes tyrannical power, material as a political instrument, covert threat actions, religious legitimacy, and political manipulation and intimidation. Meanwhile, the ideological domination of civil society includes opposing political dynasties and obedience to the ruling authority. Through the resulting discourse, Mata Celurit presents the phenomenon of percaton land as an issue that influences hegemony. Gramsci's analysis of hegemony reflects that the author not only presents a person (society), but also serves to reveal the hegemony exercised in political contestation in the village in Madurese society. This research can be an inspiration for the community, academics, and writers to be more sensitive to hegemonic practices that occur in the surrounding environment, especially in the context of village politics in Madura. Mata Celurit short story can be used as a critical literacy media to increase public awareness about the importance of understanding and criticising the domination of power.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of understanding the relationship between personality traits and children's language development, particularly in the area of morphology. The aim of this research is to describe the differences in morphological development in eight-year-old girls with introverted and extroverted personality types. This study employs a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. The research subjects consist of three girls: two with introverted personalities and one with an extroverted personality. All three subjects are students at a public elementary school located in the Kranggan area, Bekasi City. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, using image-based stimuli designed to elicit written linguistic responses. The primary data consist of the children’s written texts, which were analyzed with a focus on their acquisition of morphological forms, including prefixes, suffixes, circumfixes, and reduplications. The findings show that the three subjects produced a total of 340 affixes, comprising 91 prefixes, 12 suffixes, 61 circumfixes, and 23 reduplications. The differences in personality types appear to influence the variation and quantity of morphological forms used by each child. Theoretically, this research contributes to psycholinguistic studies, particularly in exploring how psychological factors affect language development. Practically, the findings can be utilized by teachers, speech therapists, and parents as a foundation for designing language learning strategies that are tailored to the child’s personality traits in order to optimize their linguistic potential.

Abstract

In the teaching process, educators are expected to take an active role in adapting and delivering diverse teaching strategies. However, a careful examination of the SMP Islam Setia Nurul Azmi classroom reveals persistent challenges in the implementation of effective instructional methods, primarily attributable to the paucity of instructional media available to the teachers. This shortage has a deleterious effect on student motivation. The objective of this study is to develop comic-based educational media focused on fable texts for seventh-grade students, with the aim of enhancing their writing skills. The research methodology employed a Research and Development (RD) approach based on the 4-D model by Thiagarajan, comprising the following stages: define, design, develop, and disseminate. Data were collected through expert validations and response questionnaires. The media was rated as highly feasible by media experts (90%), content experts (100%), and linguists (86%). A study of usability assessments revealed high practicality scores from teachers (91%) and students (81%). The effectiveness of the assessments was confirmed by an 83% student mastery rate, which is classified as "very effective." Consequently, the comic-based learning media developed through the 4-D model is regarded as highly suitable for utilization as a supportive instructional resource in the classroom.

Abstract

The first public debate of the 2024 Riau gubernatorial election is a significant political and linguistic event, where candidates utilize the debate platform to construct political credibility through discursive strategies. This study aims to describe and analyze the forms of commissive illocutionary speech acts, particularly promises, used by candidates during the debate. The focus is on identifying verbal commitments as indicators of future policy intentions. This research employs a qualitative-descriptive approach, with the primary data sourced from a 1-hour-59-minute debate video broadcast by Kompas TV. Data were collected through documentation and transcription methods, and analyzed using Searle’s (1969) speech act theory, specifically the commissive category. The data analysis followed the Miles Huberman model through stages of reduction, display, and verification. The findings reveal that commissive speech acts, especially promises, dominate the candidates' communication strategies and fall into three thematic domains: (1) infrastructure technology development, (2) improving welfare poverty alleviation, and (3) governance education integrity. Candidates frequently employ futuristic verbs such as “will” and “intend” as rhetorical tools to establish public trust. This study contributes to the field of political pragmatics and language literacy, especially in the context of regional political debates. However, the study is limited by its focus on a single debate session, without examining post-election promise fulfillment. Future research is encouraged to explore the gap between political utterances and policy implementation.

Abstract

In today’s digital era, technology plays an increasingly vital role in language learning, particularly for EFL (English as a Foreign Language) learners who often struggle with conventional classroom methods. This study explores the effectiveness of the English Breaking application in enhancing vocabulary acquisition among EFL students. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were gathered from in-depth interviews with university students in Medan who used the app for one month. The findings indicate that English Breaking positively influenced learners' vocabulary development, motivation, and engagement through its interactive flashcards, adaptive pronunciation tools, and gamified learning features. However, users also reported technical challenges, such as unstable internet requirements and unclear navigation. Despite these issues, the app's capacity to support personalized and autonomous learning proves promising. The study underscores the app’s potential as a supplementary language learning tool and calls for improvements in technical performance and social interactivity features. These findings hold significant implications for educational app developers, language educators, and policymakers aiming to optimize digital learning environments for EFL contexts.
