Abstract

Current learning emphasizes the integration of science and technology to face the challenges of the 21st century. Elementary school students experience difficulties in developing critical thinking skills due to the limitations of thematic learning media and appropriate learning approaches. Teachers must support the learning process following the changing times, namely integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) into fun learning. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the approach stem using thematic learning media in developing the critical thinking skills of elementary school students. This research is a quantitative research using a quasi-experimental method with one-group-pre-test-post-test, which is to see the difference between the pre-test and post-test with 1 class without a control class. Furthermore, the data obtained in this study were in the form of students 'answers to data collection instruments that measured students' critical thinking skills before and after treatment with the approach STEM using thematic learning media. Based on the results of data analysis and discussion, it is concluded that the criteria for improving students' critical thinking skills are in the moderate category, there is a difference in the mean critical thinking skills between the pre-test group, namely before and the post-test group, namely after learning with the approach STEM using thematic learning media and the post-test group, that is, after learning with the approach STEM using thematic learning media has average critical thinking skills better than the pre-test group, namely before learning with the approach STEM using thematic learning media. Keywords: STEM, Learning Media, Thematic, Critical Thinking

Abstract

Language skills are the most important part of language learning at primary schools that need to be taken seriously. If not, then this results in low writing skills of students in expressing ideas in writing. So, students' thinking skills or what so-called Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) are essential to be developed by teachers through learning. This study aims to determine the implementation of the HOTS-based ESCOTING model in writing skills of fables at primary school level. The method used was a pre-experimental research design with a single treatment design (one-shot case study). The sample used in this study was 23 second-grade students of a primary school in Bandung. The results showed that there was a significant increase in student learning outcomes in writing skills. From these results it can be concluded that the implementation of the HOTS-based ESCOTING model can be used as a solution by the teacher to develop students' writing skills, especially in writing fables for the second-grade students.

Abstract

This study developed a learning model to improve students’ early reading skills in Indonesia. The model is based on social cognitive learning theory and is implemented using interactive multimedia. The research method uses Design-Based Research (DBR) and the subjects are 195 first and second graders of an elementary school in Bandung, West Java. The findings of the study show that social cognitive learning can be integrated and implemented through interactive multimedia and that interactive-multimedia-assisted social cognitive model (IMAS Model) can improve early reading skills. Students’ average early reading skill scores were measured using Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA) instrument before and after intervention to see the effectiveness of the model. Pre-test – post-test results comparison showed that students’ average early reading scores increased after learning using IMAS Model. Students’ average scores of reading letters, reading syllables, reading words, reading sentences, and reading comprehension skills at pre-test were 78.06, 67.06, 60.92, 55.21, and 44.95, respectively. These scores respectively increased to 92.71, 92.45, 88.58, 74.60, and 87.08 at post-test, indicating that IMAS Model is effective to increase early reading skills.

The involvement of parents in overcoming student learning difficulties is to be able to establish communication with class teachers to find out their children's learning development, provide free time with children to discuss lessons that have been given at school, provide learning facilities, understand children's learning difficulties and provide guidance, and provide motivation in learning.

Abstract

One of the definitions of personality involves character patterns that include feelings, thoughts and actions. Based on this definition it turns out that personality can not run away from the field of psychology. Personality traits are biological while personality values are environmental products influenced by culture, education and life. In the study of modern psychology, thought-based traits that are in the cognitive domain are higher than emotional traits in relation to values. In the tradition of Islamic science, there is a special traits, which is the yardstick of superior personality; that is, Al-‘Adalah or is called adil  (fairness). Related to the trait of adil is the trait of dhabit (strong memory). A qualitative study using this library approach seeks to trace the properties possessed by hadith scholars, who once inspired the West to apply those attributes in their intellectual work. Studies have found that these properties have unique characteristics because of their ability to integrate ontological, epistemological and axiological dimensions and also balance the role of cognitive and affective domains in human beings that direct human physiological and psychological behavior in a positive direction.

Traditional games are one of the wealth of the Indonesian nation that must be preserved.Conservation efforts can be implemented in schools. The main target iselementary school students because theyhave no difficulty getting to know the culture at this age.Traditional games can also be used to instil the character value of cooperation in groups. This value is beneficial for them in facing global challenges in society. The research method is qualitative because the data to be obtained is in the form of words and sentences from the object of research. This data describes how students show a cooperative attitude at school. This collaboration will be seen after the researcher introduces traditional games to students. They will then practice it with their classmates. Data were collected using observation, interview, questionnaire and documentation. The validity of the data was checked by triangulation of sources and methods. The process of instillingthe character value of cooperation in elementary students through traditional games experienced certain obstacles, but these obstacles could be overcome by collaborating with various parties such as students, parents and teachers.
