Abstract

The experiment aimed to observe growth performance of 3 native chicken crossed. The materials used in this experiment were 22 day old chick (DOC) resulted of natural mating between male pelung and female sentul chicken (PS) and 113 DOC resulted of natural mating between male sentul and female kampung chicken (SK). Feeds were given during experiment divided into 3 phases that were BR-21E 100% for chicken between 0-3 weeks of age, rice bran 20% and BR-21E 80% for 4 week age, and grower feeds rice bran 40% and BR-21E 60% for chicken between 5-12 weeks. Variables which recorded weekly were body weight until 12 weeks of age, weight gain, feed consumption, feed conversion, and mortality. The t-test was used to compare data of performance between two sexes and between two cross system (PS and SK). The results showed that body weight at 12 weeks of crossbred (PS) male was significantly higher than SK (P<0.01) also female (P>0.05). Feed consumption and feed conversion were not significantly different (P>0.05). The mortality rate during the experiment were 4.54% for crossbred PS and 7.07% for SK. SK and PS can be applied to increase meat production.

Abstract

The high quality of semen is important to support fertilization and semen collection for the insemination. One of the factors influencing the semen quality is feed. The feed shortages and the excess of feed, both of them affect on the semen production and its quality. So the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of feed restriction on the semen characteristics of Mojosari duck. 60 Mojosari ducks(male) were used. They were reared from 4-39 weeks age. This experiment used complete randomize design. As treatment was the restriction on feeding, that consist of four levels : ad libitum (100%) for starter-layer period (P1), feed on starter-grower 100%, layer 85% (P2), feed on starter-grower85%, layer 100% (P3), and feed on starter-layer 85% (P4). The result of this study showed that the treatments did not significantly affect on volume semen per ejaculat, spermatozoa concentration, total spermatozoa per ejaculat, motility, viability, and percentage of spermatozoa abnormality. Spermatozoa without tail on P1 was higher significant than those on another treatments (P2, P3, and P4). This study indicated that feed restriction (85% adlibitum) from starter-layer period (P4) on the Mojosari duck was sufficient to produce semen with high quality.

Abstract

This research aimed to estimate cattlelive weight by digital imageanalysis using two variables, namely side body surface area (LPTS) and back body surface area (LPTB). Thestudyused 40 heads of PO cattle and 45 heads Pesisir cattle. The body surface of cattle was visualized by digital camera and the image was analyse by autocad software. The combination of LPTS and LPTB was correlated to live weight of cattle with coefficient determinatoin (R2) of 70.57 % and 40.96 % for PO and Pesisir cattle respectively. The established regretion equation gave standard error of 51.63 kg for PO cattle and 25.54 kg for Pesisir cattle. Therefore, the estimation of cattle live weight based on LPTS and LPTB was not suggested as their hight prediction error.

Abstract

The aim of the research was to evaluate the effect of fermented sausages using probiotic bacterial L. plantarum IIA-2C12 to the gastrointestinal tract of rats. The research was conducted from March to June 2014. Research was conducted at Breeding and Genetics Laboratory, Faculty of Animal Husbandry Laboratory Large Ruminants and UPH Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Bogor Agricultural University. This study was divided into two stages, 1) subculturing (fermented sausage and beef satay) starter culture, the manufacture of casein, beef satay and sausage fermentation and, 2) in vivo evaluation. Rats were divided into three groups: casein (P1), fermented sausages (P2) and beef satay (P3). This research used a pattern completely randomized design with three treatments type of feed is feed casein, fermented sausage and beef satay. The results showed that based on the amount of lactic acid bacteria, fermented sausage produced met the criteria as a probiotic food. Fermented sausages could increased the population of LAB on the 20th day mucose (T2). Treatment of feed had no significant effect (P> 0.05) in the number of E. coli in the rat liver, but on the 10th day termination (T1), the rats P1 showed the number of BAL were significantly (P <0.05) higher than P2. Fermented sausage increased the population of LAB, decreased E. coli population in mucosa until 20th day in mucosa.

Abstract

Local chicken in Indonesia is commonly maintained traditionally for meat consumption so that ithas the potential to be developed as an economical livestock commodities. The increasing of meat local chicken demand should be followed by the increasing of its quality. FMO3 gene as a gene that control meat quality especially controlling fish odor in livestock product, can be used as a functional gene in its function as a genetic marker. This research was aimed to identify the FMO3 gene polymorphism in exon 6 inbroiler, kampung, sentul, merawang, pelung and nunukan chicken population. Identification of polymorphism was used 129 samples from those populations. AlwnIenzyme was used in PCR-RFLP technique to digest PCR product overnight.Genotypingshowed only AA genotype (275/249 bp) in 524 bp product amplification. There was no polymorphism found in every population. It needs further study in the different sequences to findthe polymorphism of FMO3 in local chicken.

Abstract

Breeding Center of Bali Cattle in Bali has applied Village Breeding Center (VBC) Program which an area of farmer belonging to groups that develop breeding program. These farms are expected to act as nuclei in open nucleus schemes, where superior animals are multiplied at Breeding Center (nucleus), distributed to farmers, andthe best animals from the farmers are brought back to the central farm for further breeding. This study was to estimate non-genetic and genetic of growth traits consisting of birth (BW), weaning (WW), and 12 months (YW) weight. This study used pedegree record of Breeding Center from 2008 to 2013 years. The number of sapi Bali used to determine growth traits of BW, WW, and YW were 573; 541; and 523 heads, respectively.Data were analyzed using General Linier Model (GLM) to identify non-genetic. Estimation of genetic including heritability, repeatability, genetic and phenotypic correlation were calculated using General Linier Model and Restricted Maximum Likelihood. Genetic and phenotypic trends were calculated using the regression mean breeding values on birth year.Heritability values were 0.02±0.08; 0.83±0.18 and 0.62±0.30for BW, WW and YW, respectively. The higest correlation showed between WW and YW for genetic and fenotipic were 0.719 and 0.650, respectively. The regression estimates on various trends of EBV and phenotipic trends for WW and YW showed no deinite trendsince the regression equation was not signiicant (P>0.01) and R2 was relatively low, but the phenotypic trends of BW showed constant decrease (P<0.01). The results obtained in the present study realized that one signaling to the programthat need for evaluated in selection and or management procedure in the scheme

Abstract

The number of milk consumption 12.50 Ls capita-1 year-1 have not been able to be  met through  national milk  production. Deficit in milk production opportunities for dairy goat farmers to develop the business. Livestock development resulting externalities.  According to Pindyck, Robert and Rubinfeld (2007) An externality is an activity either by perodusen or consumers that can affect producers and other consumers, but not factored into the cost of the market. Indirectly these impacts will be considered for the  development of dairy goat farming business, so the need for studies on the impact of positive and negative externalities caused by the presence of dairy goat farm. The purpose of this study was to analyze the impact of dairy goat farm externalities on people's lives around. The experiment was conducted at Wake Karso dairy goat farm. The population in this study is the community living around the dairy goat farm. Sampling method used was purposive sampling. This study uses 70 respondents who dwelt at a distance of 0 to 1 km from dairy goat farms. The results showed that the majority of people (57.32%) expressed disagreement to the positive externalities generated and the majority of people (90.20%) expressed disagreement to the negative externalities caused. Positive externalities not provide a real benefit to society and the negative impacts are not felt by the public, so the public is not compromised states due to dairy goat farm.
