Abstract

One of the weakness of broiler chicken is susceptible to disease infection. Therefore in its feed is added by feed additive. The feed additive that is often used was antibiotics growth promoters. To produce the healthy of chicken meat, using antibiotics in feed should be avoided. The powder of areca nut contain of high flavonoid, so it can be given to broiler chicken, for replace the role of antibiotic in feed.So the purpose of this study was to evaluate the powder of areca nut in broiler chicken feed toward the production performance and its economic value. 96 day old chicks of broiler were used. They were placed at 12 swath (sized 1x1 m2) in open house, then they were distributed into 4 treatments. Every treatment consist of 3 repeted. The treatments were the level of powder of areca nut in feed, 0, 1, 2, and 3% (P0, P1, P2, and P3). Production performances were analyzed statistically, while the value of  income over feed and chick cost were analyzed descriptively.Production performances include the average of feed consumption, body weight gain, final body weight, feed conversion ratio, and mortality of broiler chickens were not significant. There were no death chicken at P1. The high value of income over feed and chick cost wereachieved by P1, in the amount ofRp7080/chicken. It can be concluded that the level of powder of areca nut in amount 1% in commercial broiler feed gave the best result. Keywords : broiler chicken, powder of areca nut, production performance, income over feed and chick cost

Abstract

Kampung chicken is Indonesian native chicken that potential to be developed as commercialchicken.  The large-scale breeders less interest to breed kampung chicken because it has slow growth toreach slaughter weight than commercial meat type. Therefore, kampung chicken’s performance needto be improved by crossing with commercial meat type that has fast growth. This research purposedto observed the effect performance of first generation (F1) from commercial meat type crossing withkampung and their reciprocal.  Research conducted performance of crossing chicken in age 0-12 weeksage. T test used for knowing difference body weight mean, body weight gain, feed consumption, and feedconvertion rate.  The result of this research were not significant between KB cock with BK cock andKB hen with BK hen on body weight, body weight gain, feed consumption, and feed convertion rate.Whereas mortality percentage BK chicken was higher than KB chicken althought less of mortality.  KBand BK cocks had better performance than hens. Reciprocal crossing between kampung chicken andcommercial meat type had performance better than kampung chicken, so crossing had been increasedgenetic quality of kampung chicken.

Abstract

High ambient temperature in tropical, especially during the daytime of Garut lamb cause highlevel of stress and low productivity. To overcome it can be  improved the management. If the feed is givenin the evening, its metabolism process will take place throughout the night with the lower temperature. This method is expected result the higher productivity include the meat quality. So the aim of thisstudy was to evaluate the influence of feeding time (morning and evening) toward the physical meatcharacteristics of Garut lamb. 12 Garut lamb were used. They were placed in 12 individual cages. Thisstudy used block randomized design. As treatment was feeding time. As feed was  a mix of field grass andconcentrates (40:60). Data of physical meat characteristics were analyzed by t-test. The physical meatcharacteristics include value of pH, the ability to water bind, cooking loss, and score of meat colour werenot significant. Garut lamb that was given feed at morning time, significant resulted the meat with moretender (1.04 kg/cm2) than the feeding time at evening (1.59 kg/cm2) (P<0.05). It can be concluded thatthe physical meat characteristics (except meat tenderness) of Garut lamb were similar in both differentfeeding time. The treatment of different feeding time can be change the behaviour of Garut lamb.

Abstract

Duck’s hatchery industry produces a diverse weight of Day old Duck’s (DOD) because the hatched eggs have diverse weight. The diverse of DOD weight indicates to cause affect to the performance of ducks. Research was conducted to measure the influenceof hatching weight to performance of Alabio duck’s age 0 to 8 weeks. This research used 47 males and 96 females Alabio duck. Alabio’s DODs were separated based on hatching weight, that is small grade (34.39 ± 1.70), medium grade(38.57 ± 0.91), and large grade(43.12 ± 1.98). All ducks had same treatment and maintenance system. This research used randomized completely design with 2x3 factorials of sex and hatching weight. The observed variables were consumption, average daily gain, weight cuts at 8 weeks, feed conversion, and mortality. From this research, hatching weights didn’t influenced to all performances, however sex can influence to daily gain, body weight at 8th  weeks, and feed conversion. Male ducks have daily gain and body weight at  weeks bigger than female ducks. Male ducks have lower feed conversion than female ducks.

Abstract

Empty Fruit Bunches (EFB) is palm oil industry waste which has very large volume compared with another commodity of agro-industry waste in Indonesia. Trichoderma sp. and Larva Black Soldier Fly (BSF) with bioconversion method can be used as probelem resolve of EFB. The EFB material was obtained from Palm Oil Factory in Banten. EFB was researched in Indonesian Ornamental Fish Culture Research Institute in Depok and the result test was taken at the Laboratory of Animal Science and Technology of Bogor Agricultural University. The percentage of Trichoderma sp. fermentation (5%, 10% and 20% ) affected EFB palatability of BSF larvae and the fermented EFB with 10 % of Trichoderma sp. has a feasibility to be used as medium of BSF larvae with yield of 73.28 gram on day 4 th from the initial weight of mini larvae BSF 5 grams. At the bioconversion stage using BSF larvae with a dose of 10% Trichoderma sp. (5 gram, 15 gram and 25 gram) was obtained significant result on the initial weight of mini larvae 5 gram to 230.34 gram from fermented EFB weight of 550 gram on day 8th  , so that the average yield of average larvae was obtained By 39%. Result of proximate test of larvae on dry condition 100% obtained crude protein content (PK) 35.40 - 42.31% and crude fats (LK) 3.33 – 36.41%. Therefore, by using this test result, it will be possible to be used as poultry feed ingredient candidate in the future.
