KARSA is a peer-reviewed national journal published by Institut Agama Islam Negeri Madura. It has been nationally accredited SINTA 2 since 2017 by Ministry of Research Technology and Higher Education of Republic Indonesia. It is published twice a year (June and December). It publishes articles of research results, applied theory studies, social issues, cultural studies, and Islamic culture issues. The aim of KARSA is to disseminate cutting-edge research that explores the interrelationship between social studies and (including) culture. The journal has scope and seeks to provide a forum for researchers interested in the interaction between social and cultural aspects across several disciplines. The journal publishes quality, original and state-of-the-art articles that may be theoretical or empirical in orientation and that advance our understanding of the intricate relationship between social science and culture. KARSA accepts manuscript with a different kind of languages are Indonesian, English, Arabic, or French.

Abstract

The construction of theological thought of Islamic scholars about disaster in East Java is based on the dialogue process which is based on the text (the doctrine of theology) and context (a variety of catastrophic events). The scholar thought dia-lectically involves three momentums at once, the moment of internalization, ex-ternalization, and objectification. This cycle can be seen from the understanding of the resource person which is based on the doctrine of theology and catas-trophic events. The dialectics of text and context eventually lead to the concerns of the scholars. This study concludes that in the view of the primary sources, the disaster is interpreted in three categories, namely as mushîbah (trials), imtihân (warning/test), and 'adzab (torture) of God as prime cause for humanity in hablun min Allah (relationship/worship with Allah), hablun min al al-nâs (relation-ship/interact with human), and hablun min al-'âlam (relationship/maintain with universe). Generally, this theological view can not be separated from mainstream theology, the theology of the Ash'arite which is the mainstream ideology of Ahlussunnah wal Jama'ah followers. Polarization of views and interpretations of the Islamic scholars in East Java in Berger’s constructivism theory gives rise typology of scholar thought; conservative, moderate and progressive thought.Copyright (c) 2015 by KARSA. Abstract

Treasures about Islam in Indonesia cannot be separated from pesantren (Islamic boarding school). The contribution to the development of social and cultural, especially through the preservation of local culture. This paper discusses social capital and its transformations in Pondok Pesantren Sidogiri, Pasuruan Regency. This study applied ethnography method. The research findings show  internalized social capital includes social interaction ties  such as  routine recitations, alumni bonds, and togetherness inthe style of pondok pesantren, istighozah, haul,  akhir sanah and cooperation with other institutions outside pesantren. Norms consist of love and obedience to masyaikh also his family, santri Sidogiri are one brotherhood, discipline, barokah (divine blessing), and independence in the economy, as well as honest and trustworthy behavior. Shared vision contain the development of science and institutions for the affirmation of ahlus Sunnah wa jamaah, khidmah lil ma’had khidmah lil ummah, ibadillah sholihin, simplicity, and creating entrepreneurship. Meanwhile, the transformation of social capital are the expansion of the pesantren network through the development of the organizational structure - establishment of new institutions and institutionalize of khidmah lil ma'had and khidmah lil ummah. The social capital has a big enough impact, not only to create santri who own a strong religious knowledge and entrepreneurial spirit but also as a major trigger in the success of Pondok Pesantren Sidogiri in developing its economic business. The productive culture attached to social capital, moreover the increasing stock of social capital intend to combines two aspects namely clinging ahlusunnah wal jamaah and responding to advancement of science and technology.

Abstract

Abstrak: Tidak seperti desa-desa Bali lainnya, semua warga Pegayaman adalah orang-orang Islam yang taat, dan mereka adalah orang Bali asli. Mereka menyebut dirinya dengan sebutan nyama Selam (saudara Muslim), tetapi pada saat yang sama mereka juga adalah nyama Bali (saudara Bali). Di Pegayaman, jagat Bali dengan tradisi Hindunya yang warna-warni lenyap. Dari fakta antropologis dan sosiologis terlihat bahwa Islam telah datang ke desa indah ini sejak dulu dan telah memainkan peranan penting pada semua aspek kehidupan desa. Sampai pada tingkatan tertentu, keseluruhan desa tersebut dapat dipandang sebagai sebuah pesantren. Sebelumnya terisolasi dari dunia luar, akhirnya Pegayaman memiliki akses dengan dunia luar khususnya dengan saudara Muslimnya di Jawa, Sasak, dan Madura, dan genealogi pengetahuan Islam Pegayaman terbentuk dari hubungan ini. Saat ini orang Islam Pegayaman menghadapi tantangan modernisasi dan globalisasi. Tetapi tampaknya common themes Pegayaman, yaitu kesadaran diri sebagai Muslim dan sebagai orang Bali, akan membimbing mereka sama seperti yang telah dilakukan para pendahulunya.   Abstract: Unlike other villages in Bali, all Pegayaman people are faithful moslems and they are native Balinese. They call themself as nyama Selam (Moslem brother), but at the same time as nyama Bali (Balinese brother). In Pegayaman, the realm of Bali, with it’s colorful Hindu’s traditions, disappear. From anthropological and sociological facts, it’s clear that Islam has come to this beautiful village for a long times ago and played an important role in all aspects of the village’s life. In some extent, the whole village can be regarded as Pesantren in it’s literal meaning. Previously isolated from outside world, eventually Pegayaman has access to touch with the outside world, especially with their fellow moslems in Java, Sasak, and Madura, in which a genealogy of Islamic knowlegde has been developed. Nowdays, the moslems of Pegayaman face the challenges of modernization and globalization. But it seems that the common themes of Pegayaman, namely the self counciousness as Moslem and as Balinese at the same time, will guide them just like their forefathers have done. Abstract

Artikel ini mendeskripsikan kebijakan pemerintah tentang mata pelajaran Pendi-dikan Agama Islam (PAI) di sekolah negeri selama masa Orde Lama (1945-1965).Yang menjadi pertanyaan adalah bagaimana kedudukan mata pelajaran PAI disekolah negeri selama pemerintahan Orde Lama? Melalui pendekatan historisdengan analisis dokumen terhadap sejumlah kebijakan terkait, diketahui bahwadi masa Orde Lama, pendidikan agama telah ditetapkan sebagai salah satu matapelajaran yang diajarkan di sekolah negeri, sesuatu yang hanya menjadi keinginanselama masa penjajahan. Namun, selama Orde Lama kedudukan matapelajaran PAI belum kokoh karena tidak menjadi mata pelajaran wajib, bahkanorang tua siswa dan murid dewasa bisa memilih apakah anaknya atau muriddewasa tersebut akan mengikuti pelajaran agama atau tidak. Demikian pula,mata pelajaran agama tidak menentukan kenaikan kelas, dan nilai pelajaranagama tidak dalam bentuk angka, melainkan secara kualitas dalam bentukpernyataan baik, sedang, kurang.

Abstract

The presence of the media with all conveniences has surrounded the lives of Muslims. The patterns and models of da’wah developed by the da'i should adjust to the era of information and communication technology. However, under the pretext of freedom, many media appearances tend to damage social values and order. The purpose of this study is to analysis the elements of propaganda and da’wah in the movement of cyber-bullying of scholars through the hoax which based on the existence of problems in Islamic da’wah done with contradictive, and online media utilized with provocative. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative research which is using documentation and direct observation by accessing the website then the data collected is analyzed by filling system analysis. The data source was obtained from an online web that broadcasted the news with the keywords da’wah, bullying ulama and hoaxes. The result of research indicates that element of da’wah only exist in cyber-bullying while the hoax more prominent in propaganda side. The data found are (1) the existence of ulama propaganda movements which are bullied; (2) propagation of ulama through hoaxes; and (3) the existence of perpetrators of cyber-bullying ulama movements; however (4) there are several parties responsible for overcoming cyber-bullying through hoax.

Abstract

Abstrac Kiais (muslim sholar) and their pesantren (Islamic boarding school) is character of religious leader. They prove themselves as a non-formal leader in Indonesian society. The influence of Kiai depends on both the sophistication knowledge and power they have. It can be recognized from the achievement of their pesantren.  In the context of modernity dynamic, another impotant role of kiai is as a patron of Islamic group that tries to articulate their interest, due to the fact that they claim themselves as the acknowledger in organizing a relation with the outside. With their superiority, they can influence and control society. Abstract

Wa’d (the unilateral promise) is an alternative for separate multi contract in one transaction and ribâ that are prohibited with Islamic law. The application of this promise faces difficulty because of difference of principle between unilateral promise that is not binding and the business practice that based on rule of law. The fatwa of DSN, in one side, use both unilateral promise (wa’d) and bilateral promise (muwâ’adah), and other side, consider such as binding in case and not binding in other case. This indicates the difficulty for applying wa’d at the modern contract. Fatwa of DSN has tendency on binding the promise, especially uni-lateral promise. The consequence of this binding is the confusion between promise and contract and the perform of both at the transaction.Copyright (c) 2016 by KARSA. Abstract

This study examined the harmonization of five religions (Islam, Catholicism, Protestantism, Hinduism, and Buddhism) that are adhered to by the people of Mojorejo Village, Batu, East Java. This village has an important role, as it becomes the first area in Batu, East Java – that implement and develop the concept of religious pluralism and harmonization in one village area thus it has been awarded as “A Village that is Aware of Religious Harmony” from the government of Batu. Therefore, this study aimed to understand the constructs of religious harmony that have been successfully established in Mojorejo Village, Batu, East Java. The theory underlying this study is Nurcholis Madjid’s theory of humanist pluralism. This study used a qualitative approach to produce descriptive data in the form of oral, written, and observable behavior. Through three data collection methods (observation, in-depth interview, a study of documents), this study concludes that the religious harmony construct of the Mojorejo Village community is established from a pattern of accustoming mutual respect among villagers which is carried out both naturally and sustainably. This continuity manifests through cooperation in three ways: religious, social, and cultural cooperation so that it can lead to the emerge of perspectives, ideas, and a social environment capable of maintaining and preserving religious plurality in harmony. Therefore, the application of religious harmony in Mojorejo Village, Batu, East Java can be used as an alternative solution for other areas in locating and facilitating religious plurality so that it remains harmonious amid a pluralistic community.

Abstract

Abstrak:Dalam sejarah manusia, perempuan sering mendapatkan tempat kedudukan di bawah laki-laki. Dalam pandangan berbagai agama, perempuan mendapatkan diskriminasi, menganalisasi yang dibentuk oleh ketidakadilan struktural sebagai akibat dari pandang bias gender di masyarakat. Dalam komunikasi mungkin sering ditunjukkan adanya ketidakadilan di atas, akibat penfsiran yang bias gender yang dilakukan atas sebagian tokoh agama. Akibatnya perempuan tidak dapat mengaktualisasikan sejarah dan perannya di ranah publik termasuk di dalamnya di wilayah politik praktis.  Untuk Masyarakat Sumenep yang relegius, di mana fatwâ agama (fatwâ kiai) menjadi referensi dan pijakan utama setiap kali menyelesaikan persoalan sosial kemasyarakatan, maka akan sangat tepat bila pembebasan perempuan dari diskriminasi dimulai dengan membangun tafsîr yang ramah perempuanKata kunci:Perempuan, Madura, dan politikAbstract:In the history of mankind, woman is always placed under man. Even form the view of any religions, woman is descriminated and marginalized as a result of structural unjustice and gender bias. The unfair treatment has been justified from the gender bias interpretation commited by certain religious scholars. Thus, women are able to actualize their history and roles in public domain including practical practice domain. In Sumenep context, constructing a kind interpretation on woman role must be a brilliant choice since Sumenep people are religious and they hold on the religion fatwa (a binding ruling) tightly.Key words:Perempuan, Madura, dan politic

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian untuk mendeskripsikan dampak kebijakan kebudayaan yang sudah diterapkan terhadap komunitas seni dan tradisi budaya Banyuwangi, khusunya Using, untuk mendiskripsikan pola relasi antar pelaku budaya dengan pemerintah daerah, dan untuk mengambarkan konstruksi model kebijakan daerah untuk pelestarian dan pengembangan kebudayaan lokal Banyuwangi, khusunya Using. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif-kualitatif dengan analisis trianggulasi, analisis isi, dan permodelan kebijakan. Metode untuk memperoleh data dilakukan melalui pengamatan, wawancara, dokumentasi, studi kepustakaan, dan FGD. Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa kebudayaan Using menjadi sebuah entitas untuk terus diperebutkan dalam ruang representasi dari kepentingan masing-masing pihak. Terjadi relasi dari masing-masing aktor dalam sebuah ruang yang dinamis. Dari hasil penelitian terkait, budaya Using di Banyuwangi ditemukan beberapa kelompok aktor, yaitu pihak swasta, pimpinan daerah-Bupati, pelaku budaya lokal, tokoh masyarakat, dan masyarakat umum. Relasi tersebut merepresentasikan secara dialektik, nilai ekonomis, politik, spiritualitas serta kebutuhan replikasi identitas dan fantasi-hiburan warga masyarakat. Beberapa dampak dari kebijakan dan relasi yang muncul adalah dampak sosial, ekonomi dan bagi budaya dan bagi budaya Using sendiri.
