KARSA is a peer-reviewed national journal published by Institut Agama Islam Negeri Madura. It has been nationally accredited SINTA 2 since 2017 by Ministry of Research Technology and Higher Education of Republic Indonesia. It is published twice a year (June and December). It publishes articles of research results, applied theory studies, social issues, cultural studies, and Islamic culture issues. The aim of KARSA is to disseminate cutting-edge research that explores the interrelationship between social studies and (including) culture. The journal has scope and seeks to provide a forum for researchers interested in the interaction between social and cultural aspects across several disciplines. The journal publishes quality, original and state-of-the-art articles that may be theoretical or empirical in orientation and that advance our understanding of the intricate relationship between social science and culture. KARSA accepts manuscript with a different kind of languages are Indonesian, English, Arabic, or French.

Abstract

Abstrak: Pesantren adalah lembaga pendidikan Islam tradisional yang mempelajari, memahami, mendalami, menghayati, dan mengamalkan ajaran Islam dengan menekankan pada urgensi moral-keagamaan sebagai pedoman perilaku sehari-hari. Lembaga pesantren telah hidup dan eksis sejak ratusan tahun yang lalu, sehingga identik dengan budaya pendidikan hampir mayoritas umat Islam Indonesia khususnya yang berdomisili di desa. Salah satu strategi yang bisa digunakan pada sistem pendidikan pesantren adalah menggunakan metode SWOT (Strength – Weakness – Opportunities – Threat) sebagai upaya menghasilkan temuan yang realistis untuk ditindaklanjuti. Pendidikan pesantren juga sangat membutuhkan kejujuran para pengelola dan stakeholder. Metode SWOT bisa menjadi teropong dalam membedah secara transparan dan jujur keberadaan lembaga Pesantren apa adanya. Abstract: Pesantren is a traditional Islamic educational institutions to learn, understand, explore, appreciate, and practice the teachings of Islam emphasising on moral-religious value as everyday behavior guidance. Boarding institutions have existed  since hundreds of years ago  that it is almost identical to the cultural education of the Muslim majority in Indonesia, especially those residing in the village. The  strategy used in pesantren education system is SWOT (Strength - Weakness - Opportunities - Threat) as an effort to produce a realistic findings for further action. Abstract

Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan dan mendeskripsikan maksud-maksudyang terkandung di balik tuturan direktif dalam novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surgakarya Tere Liye, serta mendeskripsikan dan menjelaskan nilai-nilai pendidikankarakter yang terkandung di dalamnya. Kajian ini merupakan kajian deskriptifkualitatif dengan objek penelitian semua tuturan dalam novel berjudul BidadaribidadariSurga karya Tere Liye. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan denganteknik purposive sampling sesuai dengan pokok permasalahan yang dikaji. Teknikanalisis data dalam penelitian ini dilakukan dengan model mengalir, yaitu (1)pengumpulan data, (2) reduksi data, (3) penyajian data, dan (4) penarikansimpulan. Kesimpulan dibuat dengan teknik deduktif, yaitu dari penjelasanumum menuju fakta-fakta khusus sebagai kesimpulan akhir. Hasil analisis  dansimpulan dalam penelitian ini adalah: (1) maksud-maksud yang terkandungdibalik tuturan direktif dalam novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga karya Tere Liye,antara lain: menyuruh, memerintah, memohon, mengimbau, menyarankan  dan(2) nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter yang terkandung di dalam novel tersebutadalah religius dan toleransi;  disiplin; jujur, bertanggung jawab, rela berkorban;kerja keras; kreatif dan rasa ingin tahu; menghargai prestasi, kompetensi, danotonomi; demokratis; kepedulian sosial; peduli lingkungan, dan memiliki nilaikarakter menghargai/menghormati orang lain.

Abstract

Slametan is a tradition which is still embraced by Javanese in general, especially who is in rural areas. The slametan has different characteristics in each region that due to heterogeneity factors. The research purposes to describe slametan forms, process, and syncretism patterns of slametan tradition in Ngaringan village, Gandusari district, Blitar. The research used a qualitative tradition with descriptive narrative approach which is thematic analysis for data analysis process used. The research were participated by public figures in Ngaringan village. Data collection with in-depth interviews and observation. It found (1) Slametan forms generally includes birth, death, marriage, cleaning the village, feast day, welcoming Ramadhan, celebrating after coming back from abroad for the work, and celebrating when harvest comes. (2) The slametan process consists of serving food (such as; chicken in ingkung form, buceng rice, jenang colors red and white, jenang sengkolo) and prayer. (3) The slametan tradition is a pattern of syncretism between Java and Islam as a pillar of “Islam Nusantara”. The Slametan had already existed as a Javanese ritual before Islam came than they were merged into the one. The research conclusion reveals that the slametan tradition is a ritual which is combining between Javanese and Islamic traditions than became characteristic of “Islam Nusantara”.

Abstract

Since the last of 18th century or in the beginning of 19th AD has known intensive interaction between Moslem and the West. In this period, moslems have to face the dilemma, between the wish to revere the Islamic teaching values with the need to follow modern arguments. It causes skripturalis and substansialis thinkings. Through the topic of women leadership, these two thinkings also happen in kiais of pesantren in Sumenep of Madura. Ideologically, both of them are different since their method of meaning to islamic teaching also different. While sosiologically, those are different in thinking the developing social phenomenon. In women leadership, skripturalis kiais keep thinking of forbidding the women of being the leader based on  the Qur`an verse and Hadits. On the contrary, substansialis kiais keep thinking of allowing the women in having the public position based on substantial meaning to the Qur`an (al-Nisâ:34) and Hadits.Copyright (c) 2015 by KARSA. Abstract

This study seeks to reveal the application of business ethics in the traditional Marsyudi blacksmith business in Paterongan Village. This study uses qualitative methods with a case study approach. The informants in this study were four, namely one main informant as the blacksmith owner and three supporting informants who were employees and customers. This research site is carried out at the Marsyudi traditional blacksmith business site, namely in Tok Koneng Hamlet, Paterongan Village, Galis District, Bangkalan Regency. The results of this study indicate that the application of business ethics to traditional Marsyudi blacksmith business is good. First, Marsyudi's traditional blacksmith business implements a belief value in the implementation of the down payment payment system, the value of giving equal prices in the heirloom selling price and the value of freedom of choice in credit payment transactions made by buyers. Second, the application of ritual ethics before carrying out heirloom production. Rituals in heirloom production that are applied to his efforts are jhejeh rituals, rituals for distributing porridge or sticky rice, reading basmalah and bathing keris heirloom by using flower water. All of these rituals are intended for the craftsman to be safe and produce good quality heirloom products. These findings are in line with the theory of teleology because the purpose of business ethics carried out by the traditional Marsyudi blacksmith business is for the good, not for evil.

Abstract

Abstrak:Tulisan ini berusaha mendeskripsikan kegelisahan intelektual Fatimah Mernissi terhadap fenomena disparitas dan bias gender di dunia Islâm. Melalui pendekatan hermeneutika historis sosiologis terhadap al-Qur’ân dan –terutama—hadîts, Mernissi melahirkan kerangka teoritik Islam Politik  dan Islam Risalah. Dalam rangka mengentas bias gender yang menurutnya lebih merupakan konstruksi sosial komunitas muslim patriarkhi, Mernissi menyerukan “pembacaan baru” terhadap teks-teks agama melalui hermeneutika sehingga mampu menghadirkan Islam Risalah  dan mendekonstruksi yang terlanjur mengalami sakralisasi, pada hal sesungguhnya ia –Islâm Politik—tak lebih hanya sebagai “tafsir” belaka.Kata kunci:Hermeneutika, hadîts, dan misoginiAbstract:The present article attempts to describe an intellectual discomfort of  Fatimah Mernissi against disparity phenomena and gender bias in Islamic realm. Through the approach of historical-sociological hermeneutics-specifically- applied on hadits, Mernissi constructs theoretical framework of Islamic politic and Islamic treatise. She suggests a new reading way on religion texts using hermeneutic in order to pull out gender bias caused by the construction of  patriarchal-Muslim community. She states that it could represent the Islamic treatise and deconstruct sacred parts which she thinks a prodcut of interpretation from the Islamic politic. Artikel ini menyimpulkan bahwa nilai, sikap dan perilaku yang positif seperti jujur,amanah,optimistisdanlain-lain,sertamenjauhiperilakuyangnegatifsepertibohong,boros, dengki dan sebagainya merupakan bagian dari akhlak. Artinya,nilai-nilai tersebut juga diajarkan dalam pokok bahasan akhlak yang terdapat dalampendidikanagama.Pembelajarantanpadiikutiolehfaktorlingkunganyangmendukungtidak menjamin dapat tercapai tujuan. Faktor lingkungan sekolahbisa berwujud budaya sekolah maupun kegiatan ekstrakurikuler sekolah. Nilainilaimoral agama terintegrasi dengan mata pelajaran lain, budaya sekolah dankegiatan sekolah yang mendukung akan semakin mempengaruhi akhlak atau sikapsiswa. Dengan model integrasi dengan pelajaran lain, maka siswa akanmemperoleh pengetahuan dan keterampilan secara utuh, sehingga pembelajaranmenjadi bermakna bagi siswa. Selain integrasi dengan mata pelajaran lain, pembentukannilai-nilai di sekolah juga sangat tergantung budaya sekolah dankegiatan sekolah.

Abstract

Abstrac It is tha nature of kiai to lead a pesantren, due to the fact that they are known as religious figures, advisor, owner and establisher of peasntren. Nevertheless, the involvement of kiai as a practical politic activist even they hold the top position of several political parties, elites of executive and legislative are interesting phenomena. Pesantren and politic are two different things. Pesantren is recognized as the institution of tafaqquh fi al-dien that weighs on religious aspects construction (ukhrawi). The kiai choice to get involved in practical politic would become a new challenge. It needs new ability which is different from the ability of managing pesanttren. Thus it is able to raise new problem. Then back to khittah is a "proper" choice. Kata-kata kunci Kiai, pesantren, politik

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas masalah hukum pidana di Kesultanan Melaka pada abad ke-15 dan ke-16 M. Sumber utama tulisan adalah Undang-Undang Melaka (UUM), kitab hukum Kesultanan Melaka yang disunting oleh Liaw Yock Fang. Penulis menemukan bahwa hukum adat dan hukum Islam menjadi sumber hukum pidana di Melaka sebagaimana terdapat di dalam UUM. Tapi, pasal-pasal yang ada di dalam UUM tidak diterapkan di dalam kehidupan masyarakat Melaka. Yang diterapkan adalah hukum adat yang masih dipengaruhi oleh Hindu, agama yang dianut saat itu sebelum datangnya Islam. Hukum Islam menjadi alternatif hukum adat di Melaka yang bersumber dari berbagai mazhab fikih di dalam Islam. Artikel ini menunjukkan bahwa perubahan dan peralihan hukum suatu masyarakat sangat dipengaruhi oleh perubahan politik dan agama yang dianut penguasa. Dalam konteks Melaka, hukum adat yang dipengaruhi oleh Hindu beralih dan berubah secara perlahan kepada hukum Islam (baca: fikih).Copyright (c) 2016 by KARSA. Abstract

Industrial developments have brought many significant changes in various fields of life, especially agriculture and education. It seems that the transformation of the agricultural sector and fishpond farming in Medang Village, Glagah, Lamongan are affected by the catfish folklore that keep the people concerned for generations. This is a phenomenological research and the results are descriptive and qualitative. The data are described and interpreted hermeneutically. The results indicate that the catfish folklore contains a number of educational values that dynamically developed along with the people's beliefs about the folklore as a myth. This transformation of educational values includes: the value of ubudiyyah, the value of the struggle in the life; and the moral value. This transformation occurs through the intervention of many parties, both internal and external ones, such as the local government, the elders, the community leaders  as well as educators. Other factors are technological development and the development of the fishery industry. This research suggests the stakeholders of the village level, districts, and regencies to make the folklore as a medium in learning the educational values. The society, especially the fishpond farmer at Medang village are suggested to preserve the folklore without preventing it to be known. The scholars and the artists can also bring this folklore to life and present it in a more interesting format, both in a pure and classic appearance and in collaboration so that it can be presented as a myth that has a profound meaning.
