Abstract

Abstract Infectious male Aedes aegypti mosquitoes can transmit dengue virus (DENV) to transvenereal non-infectious female mosquitoes. Infectious female mosquitoes will reduce DENV to the egg stage and propagate to the adult mosquito stage. Egg stage is a stage of viability / resistance of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) vector. The study aims to determine the effect of transvenereal transmission on egg viability resulting from parental Ae. aegyptifemale mosquitoe with DENV-3 infection, with variations in egg storage time. This type of experimental research with purposive sampling. Egg samples were obtained from the Ae. aegypti female parental mosquito detected positive DENV-3 by PCR testing. Egg samples were stored for 14, 30, 60 and 120 days. Analysis to determine differences in viability in eggs derived from infectious female mosquitoes compared to controls using an independent T-test. Analysis to determine the viability of eggs derived from parental infectious female mosquitoes based on variations in storage time using ANOVA. The results of the study stated that there was no significant difference (P = 0.794) between the average eggs that succeeded in becoming imago (viable eggs) derived from parental infectious female mosquitoes compared to controls. The analysis also stated that there was no significant difference (P = 0.18) between the average viable eggs derived from parental infectious female mosquitoes both storage duration for 14, 30, 60, or 90 days. Keywords: Aedes aegypti, dengue serotype 3, storage time, transvenereal transmission, egg viability.

Abstract

Abstract. This study aims to determine the diversity of zooplankton in Lake Sipin. This study uses a descriptive exploratory method by determining the location by purposive sampling. The results showed that found 6 zooplankton classes, namely: Tubulinea, Monogononta, Maxillopoda, Euglenophyceae, Imbricatea, and Eurotatoria consisting of 15 types, namely: Arcella sp., Difflugia globulosa, Difflugia limnetica, Difflugia pyriformis, Asplanchna sp., Brachionus sp., Cyclopoid sp., Macrocyclops varians, Trachelomonas rachiborskii, Euglypa cristata, Polyartha trigla, Trichocerca sp., Trichocerca birostris, Trichocerca bicristata. Abundance ranges from 0.0031 Ind / L - 0.0051 Ind / L; Evenness index ranges from 0.876 - 0.915; diversity index 1.41 - 2.164; and a dominance index of 0.128 - 0.292. Diversity is classified as moderate because the diversity index obtained is greater than 1 and smaller than 3 and no species dominates. It can be concluded that the highest diversity is found in the Tubulinea class. Lake water quality can be tolerated by zooplankton because it tends to have good value. Researchers are advised to conduct research at night to see the relationship between the distribution of zooplankton with the intensity of sunlight, as well as conducting research by determining the location of more diffuse points.

Abstract

This research intended to evaluate the proximate composition and palm juice glycemic index. The analysis of water, protein, and ash contents used the oven, semi-micro Kjeldahl, and thermogravimetry methods, respectively. Meanwhile, fat, carbohydrate, and sugar contents were analyzed by relying on direct extrusion method with a Soxhlet, by difference method , and Luff Schoorl method, respectively. Further, the analysis of the glycemic index employed the calculation of area under the curve using the finger-prick capillary blood method. The measurement of blood glucose levels was done to ten respondents who were given pure glucose and palm juice. The results revealed that palm juice contained 91.1% water, 0.28% ash, 0.41% protein, 0% fat, 8.21% carbohydrate, and 0,67% sugar. The average blood glucose of the respondents after consuming pure glucose and palm juice in minute 0, 30, 60, 90, and 120 arrived at 93.2 mg/dL, 155.4 mg/dL, 124.2 mg/dL, 93.8 mg/dL, 79.1 mg/dL, and 81.8 mg/dL, 118.6 mg/dL, 92.6 mg/dL, 74.1 mg/dL, and 63.7 mg/dL. The value of the palm juice glycemic index was 35.56 (low category), so that this juice could function as an alternative drink to maintain blood glucose levels.

Abstract

In the Lhok Geulumpang beach area it has become a tourist location at some point along the coast. Study of the ecology and richness of marine species in Aceh Jaya still a little published. The objective this research was  study the composition of species, indeks diversity and distribution patterns of Echinodermata in the Lhok Geulumpang beach of Aceh Jaya. Research has been conducted in november-december 2019 in the Lhok Geulumpang beach of Aceh Jaya. The mehtod used is a combination of two transect methods i.e. the line transect and the quadrate transect. The first station is the location of the beach with sand substrate and there is no coral rock and the second location is with coral substrate and coral reef.  Species that have been found are collected for identification at the Biology Laboratory of STKIP Bina Bangsa Meulaboh. The results showed there were 3 (three) species of sea urchins belonging to 2 families and 3 orders. Three 3 spcies of sea urchin that have been found are Echinothrix diadema (Linnaeus, 1758), Echinothrix calamaris (Pallas, 1774) and  Colobocentrotus atratus (Linnaeus, 1758). From the results of the analysis found that evenness type (J ') on sandy substrate has a value of J' = 0.93165 and on rock substrate valued J '= 0.84251 indicates evenness of species classified as High. Based on the analysis of the Shannon wiener diversity index (H '). At sandy substrate station H '= 1.4994 shows that species diversity is low. Whereas at the rock substrate station, H'= 1.5096 is classified as moderate diversity. The Malgaref species richness index in the sandy substrate station DMg = 1.2427 and the rock substrate station obtained DMg = 1.0499 indicates the Malgaref species richness index is relatively low
